Director: Plum Productions Stunt: BungeeAdventures.net Jumpers: Kockelman Brothers banned from US Television helped start the US Bungee craze in the early 90's
If you had a pair of these in school you were seen as being rich. Everyone would be so jealous of you. To give you an idea, it's like having the latest high tech phone that everyone wants but can't afford. This was unobtainable to a kid at that time. You knew what they were but no-one had them. There's always that one kid who was an only child who got everything he asked for, latest console, latest handheld, latest shoes but I had something that they didn't have, a brother and sisters. 35 years later. I got my OG Reebok Pumps and they are still the only child. Worth the wait. I love it when people walk past and say "Hey, Reebok Pumps!" and take a double look, Mission accomplished!
I'm busy reading a book called Console Wars, and apparently this was the ad Tom Kalinske saw in his hotel room that gave him the idea of what Sega of America should be. This ad is basically the reason Sega became something.
i spent years trying to find this online! Thank you. A banned from TV commercial. Think it was aired few times during the bengals superbowl long time ago.
It aired once on CBS during the 1990 NCAA men’s basketball tournament. My mother, brother, and maternal grandmother were watching and thought it was in bad taste. CBS agreed and canceled the ad after that one airing. It also aired a few times on cable. The ad got a lot of negative publicity. I’m from Madison, Indiana and followed the Bengals closely. This ad came out the year after they lost the Super Bowl in the Ickey Woods/Boomer Esiason/Sam Wyche team.
I just read about this ad in a book called "And Now a few words from me" by Bob Garfield of Advertising Age magazine; they weren't kidding about the backlash on this one.
@@quarterdocker turns out most people didn't take kindly to being shown a depiction of an accidental suicide in a freakin shoe ad. Who would've thought?
@@mariaquiet6211 I don't think this has anything to do with suicide. It portrays an accident. (black humor). Guns are the most common method of suicide. I feel for the people who've lost someone to suicide but that doesn't mean we should ban things that may be somewhat related.
@@stevejohnson2052 it wasn't banned. Reebok pulled it after people complained. You can split hairs about what the ad is portraying but it's going to echo trauma from suicide, among other things.
I know this is a late answer but they didn't. The Reebok guy hung there for almost a day, weakly cursing his inexplicable lack of forsite and wasting precious air from his compressed lungs. Eventually the blood rushing to his head ruptured his blood vessels and caused a brain hemorrhage. A vacationing family in a rented canoe spotted him. They thought it was a sick prank until a drop of blood hit the little boy. He died in 2007 of a benzodiazepine overdose. It really changed him. Ironically, the man's superior choice of shoes inadvertently lead to a far more painful death. Have a nice day.
jon s Are you asking me or telling me? if your asking me every sneaker head knows Nike made a pump shoe, if your telling me I know already because I had the first Nike pump shoe in high school.

This Ad was banned by all the safety Nazi PC networks. However, it ran prime time on Fox on the Simpsons "Eat my Shorts, Man." Sadly woke liberals now and then can't take a dark joke. LOL! Dr. Strangelove would be banned now a days for sure. Also the famous Ridley Scott 1 million dollar 1990 Twin Turbo Z "dream series" ad was banned by the same SOBS (it's a dream, duh) after it aired once on the Super Bowl. Note - no CG - they actually jumped the car over the camera with a real jet chasing it - best inspired Blade Runner ad - th-cam.com/video/1XLyCDsKhGo/w-d-xo.html
"We’re going to keep trying to strengthen the American family. To make them more like the Waltons and less like the Simpsons" - George HW Bush Never mind the ad, conservatives couldn't take the programme it ran next to.
And these little moments are why I am glad the internet actually exists.

Fun Fact: This commercial is mentioned in The Console Wars book
In some sense, it may have inspired the console wars (sega vs nintendo).
And the movie
I came here from the book, was super curious what it was like watching it
@@HotWheels1010 THERE IS A MOVIE?!?!?
Thank you man you opened me a whole new level of geekiness

I remember watching this, when I was a kid, and I forgot about the ending...
That is one of the most insane commercials I have ever seen.
Thank you so much for uploading this gem, I appreciate it!
Reebok pumps you ain't shit without em
12 years too late but ain't it the truth.
I REMEMBERRR THAT COMMERCIALLLLLLLLL...aw man!!!
The moment when '90s Console War SEGA's identity was born.
This is why I always jump barefoot.

I saw it during while watching the Simpsons cartoon.
It's the only time I ever saw it

Bring Back the 80's pumps
Banned but I actually saw it on TV at a friends house. All of us just said, "Whoaa!" And started laughing.
When every sneaker brand had some sort of Techno -mechanism---the PUMP, The Catapult, Puma disk, React JUICE.

This shit was gold from the time they first aired this commercial.
This commercial made me laugh when I was a kid.
I was watching T.V. during the one day this commercial was allowed to air. I think I saw it twice that day and then it was gone...
One of the coolest shoes ever
Lol this is fucked up. But memorable, too. Couldn't get away with this today.
They didn't get away with it back then either. This commercial was pulled off the air.

Love the 80's high top sneaks!! Especially Reebok and Aliph.Nike is wasted!!
I had the Payless knockoffs.
You were smarter then people that paid $150...
I can't believe this was banned. Only an uptight, no sense of humor bonehead would get offended by this great commercial.
Or maybe someone who lost a loved one to suicide?

I worked with Pete, the blonde jumper and wonder what he's up to now ?
This was dark.
John Cena use those around 2004-2006
They had another Reebok commercial were they were skysurfing and the stuntman died and they banned that commercial as well.

lol they show nike in their commercial just to humiliate? SWAG
i would wear the pumps for this challenge. then swing over and get those nikes and run
i got these

Oh shxt! Thats fxcked up rite there! They said this ad was banned or something? NIKE: SUCCESS IS THE BEST REVENGE 😎 #TheSWOOSH
Lmao
What nike shoe was the dude wearing before he died?
Think it was the Nike Air Pressure (but don't quote me on that)
He was wearing the nike air flight 89, reebok didn't want anyone to know that nike had their own pump shoe so they didn't use them for the commercial.
whats name of model this nike ?
Think it was the Nike Air Pressure (but don't quote me on that)
Смешно!
hahahahahaha wow. No wonder people got upset by this ad.
LOL
Btw that nike shoe was a flight shoe not their pump nice try reebok.
The Prophet of Rage Nike didn't make a "pump". What are you talking about?

@@jon24333 yes Nike did make a pump. But it required additional tools to inflate them which is why the common folk don't remember them.
