  • After seeing approximately a billion ads for Hobbii yarn, and hearing lots of people talk about it in various crochet groups, I decided to finally give it a try myself. To start with, I ordered some of their beautiful gradient yarn and some of their rainbow cotton. Conclusion - I love the gradient colors, but the construction is a little weird, and rainbow cotton is a win!

I have used Rainbow Cotton a lot, in all the sizes. I prefer the 8/4, and then 8/6. It's the only cotton yarn I'll use now. Particularly in the finer weights it is such a superior product. Ive made blankets, baby clothes, shawls, hats.

Have you ever used the Sultan cotton?
My wife love working with Rainbow cotton and she is planning to make summer dresses for babies.

My cotton kings sultan delux yarn is twisted so fibres are held together not loose like one she used. Really nice to work with.

Hobbii is my favorite yarn!! I have tons of the the cotton cakes, I just leave the pull tab on and make sure not to drop a thread. I love the Deluxe cakes and the color changes. YarnArt Flowers are the other ones I use and they all make beautiful shawls. I’ve seen people use these to make blankets and they look amazing.

Honbii cotton 8/8 is 4weight ...8/4 is 2 weight....and they have a fairly new one 8/6 which I love and it is 3 weight.

How would you compare this 8/8 cotton yarn to say I love this Cotton? Enjoyed your video and learned how they changed just 1 thread color at a time. Gives me an idea to make something with 4 yarns and making my own custom “kings” twister yarn! 💗

It reminds me of it's a Wrap similar price but less yardage (625 yds. Or so) by Red Heart (which may be discontinued)

  • @nannybannany
    @nannybannany 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

Ah that 4 strand, non-spun stuff is just like Red Heart's It's a Wrap Rainbow yarn. First time I've used a yarn that isn't spun and I don't mind it. It does split, obviously, but it's not terrible.

Also, I'm not sure if you've discovered this since I'm commenting two months later but: it IS normal for international to have different names for the weights. The 8- whatever you said I assume mean it's an 8-ply yarn which is more like a DK. The ply- number also depends if it's UK or Australia style. I assume the brands/companies in Europe would use a UK yarn weight mesaurement. It can be confusing.

Just found your channel. I ordered their Carnival color changing premium acrylic yarn. LOVE, LOVE using it. That is, once I got used to it. It does have some fuzz so it can catch and can be a pain to frog. I read comments from other crocheters from other threads. So I went slow and paid attention to my stitches. After the first couple of rows on my scarf project I got used to the yarn and had no problem thereafter. Carnival has a sheen to it, that gives it a luminous quality and the color change is gradual. I don't have any projects upcoming for cotton yarns but I found your review to be thoughtful and thorough. New subscriber.

The difference between Sultan and Dahlia is not much but it is there. Sultan is made by Cotton Kings. Dahlia is made by Hobbii. Dahlia is also inspired by flowers. And that is what I know from the top of my head, right now. (it's late when I write this, it's 01.29am here now)
Rainbow cotton is using an old system for describing how thick the yarn is. The number before the slash is how thick the thread are and the second number after the slash describe how many threads has been twisted together.
If you just drag the easy start tag off you don't need to cut the yarn. I have done that with mine before.
If you use a bigger bead that can glide easy on the yarn it is worth having the bead on. But to small and it is not worth the hassle.

Well, internet for the win! Thanks for adding your knowledge! I had never heard of cotton kings as a brand before. I was able to drag the easy start tab off one, but it was sticking pretty good on the other one!

I started using Hobbii as my source for yarn maybe a couple of months ago. But before then I had not heard of Cottong King before either. But seeing 8/8, 8/6 and 8/4 on yarn before. It is on most cotton yarn in Sweden.

I've never ordered their Rainbow cotton before, but I have ordered their Twirls cake yarn and I love it! I have also ordered many other yarns and used some, others are in my stash. I've bought other brands from them and then made a shawl pattern from one of their designs and it turned out so beautifully, I bought another set to make another shawl for my baby sister. However, her shawl hasn't been started yet. Good thing she doesn't know about it. Lol #iwannamakeallthethings

Hobbii has changed the name of the Twirls to the Sultan she is talking about. So it's the same yarn -- just a new name!

The difference between Sultan and Dalia is the brand 🙂 Sultan is from Cotton Kings and Dalia is from Hobbii's own yarn

It's been a while now but I think their regular/worsted cotton is maybe the best I've used. Much better than Lily sugar and cream or handicrafter cotton. It's lovely

To keep your threads together put the yarn through a bead to hold it together.
