About Author: Raymond Thornton Chandler (July 23, 1888 - March 26, 1959) was an American-British novelist and screenwriter. In 1932, at the age of forty-four, Chandler became a detective fiction writer after losing his job as an oil company executive during the Great Depression. His first short story, "Blackmailers Don't Shoot", was published in 1933 in Black Mask, a popular pulp magazine. His first novel, The Big Sleep, was published in 1939. In addition to his short stories, Chandler published seven novels during his lifetime (an eighth, in progress at the time of his death, was completed by Robert B. Parker). All but Playback have been made into motion pictures, some more than once. In the year before his death, he was elected president of the Mystery Writers of America
About the book: Farewell, My Lovely is a 1975 American neo-noir crime thriller film directed by Dick Richards and featuring Robert Mitchum as private detective Philip Marlowe. The picture is based on Raymond Chandler's novel Farewell, My Lovely (1940), which had previously been adapted for film as Murder, My Sweet in 1944. The supporting cast features Charlotte Rampling, John Ireland, Jack O'Halloran, Sylvia Miles and Harry Dean Stanton, with an early screen appearance by Sylvester Stallone, and hardcore crime novelist Jim Thompson, in his only acting role, as Charlotte Rampling's character's elderly husband Judge Grayle. Mitchum returned to the role of Marlowe three years later in the 1978 film The Big Sleep, making him the only actor to portray the character more than once in a feature film.

Thanks for these. I listen to a ton of audio books but tend to not enjoy many of the dramatized works; however, these are well done with excellent actors as well as crisp and spare sound effects.
Great pacing too. The old time radio recordings are so frenetic and the quality, well, it is what it is.
very thanks for listening, share with your friends and family!
It's an real added extra that you include informative content in the text description. Much appreciated.
Glad you think so!
This is excellently done.

Love this

I've seen the Dick Powell version of this (Murder, My Sweet) several times; I have also read the book, but it was a long time ago. I assume this is closer to the book than the movie was, but the movie was very neatly written, in my opinion. Anyway, I like the digs Marlowe made about Hemingway and Dashiell Hammett.
Enjoyed listening to that, thanks
Saw the robert Mitcham TV version but this audiobook version is very good and dynamic 😀 👌

Yeah, it’s the great Toby Stephens ( Maggie Smith’s son) playing the role of the detective. Love his work on this and the whole cast’s work! Thanks so much for posting this. The BBC Radio app doesn’t play this nearly enough.
I wish I could see the names of the actors. No transcripts or closed captions available. I really enjoy these books
BBC4 radio drama starring Toby Stephens as Philip Marlowe. They did all the Chandler novels and all Ian Fleming's James Bond novels. Toby Stephen's starred in all of them. Btw his mother is Dame Maggie Smith.
The story and the narration were excellent and beautifully done. I really enjoyed reading by ear these audio. Thank you so much for posting it @BiteshBiswas.😃
