Even weirder was how during that malfunction the surviving slavers all committed suicide via 34 stab wounds to the face. Oh well, what can you do?”

Reminds me of a story here where a dude knocked some old guy over outside a grocery store and then ‘tripped’ breaking ribs and getting a fractured Jaw. 3 marines witnessed it.

Even convicted felons and psychopaths feel it.
You don't steal puppies, you don't steal kittens, and you most definitely don't steal kids. Not and live. That's an instinct in common with 98% of humans.
And the other 2% are Reddit users.
What? Dogs can reach costs of a small fortune. Stealing high end puppies can be very lucrative, and one can easily offset the guilt by making sure they go to good people. So, yeah, people are gonna steal puppies.

Sadly, it depends on who you ask. I've seen many treat refugees and immigrants as a threat. But I like to think more of us have compassion fo those in need than fear for them.
@@The_ViscountAlso, those fears are often based on baseless fearmongering - that is, some people telling them that they should fear them because X, Y, and Z when X, Y, and Z are either distortions of the truth or outright lies, because that makes them more likely to support the ones who do that in whatever they want to do that needs such support, and is usually unrelated.
@@The_Viscount There is actually real logic involved. Mostly because the systems have been abused. Take a look at the US southern border. Many estimates put the crossings as 2/3rds or even more as military age men. Not women and children who historically have been most refugees but men in their mid teens through mid 30's. This is a bad look full stop even if we assume all are legitimate refugees. Things like this really push peoples limits in what they will accept. It is much easier to accept women and children or full families then a bunch of random men.
It really isn't helped that many can point to actual negative outcomes associated with such movements of people as even when you can also point to positive outcomes the negative ones tend to stay in people's minds easier.
I am not taking a position either way in this chain merely pointing out that there is a form of logic involved on both sides and pretending their isn't does more damage toward your position then the one you oppose.
@@spartanonxy 100%. If it's women, children, the elderly, whole families coming over as units, that's one thing. If it's predominantly single men from 18 to 30, there's something wrong. That's not refugees.

As a practical matter.. they (slavers) practiced their trade on HUMAN turf.. 1 if they get away with it then they will do it again. 2 Next time it may be a human child and 3 it makes the Human station look weak and the command staff look bad.

Yesterday I was listening to a story about a first contact between Space Fennics and the Humans. The story was from the Xeoes point of view with a wonkey translation device. The female human in the first contact team saw the fuzzies and snatched one up and started petting it. The male said 'You can keep doing that until the ambassador shows up." Only for the squirming ambassador to say 'Well, I am the ambassador." The translation device said "Copulation." I knew what it meant.

You know, for a fact, that one of the Marines yelled “DO NOT TOUCH THE CHILD!” As he made paste of one of the slavers faces.

I'm a helicopter crew chief that flew in HEMS missions. If there were kids involved we would go in conditions that were not safe for flying. Imagine trying to navigate in a fog flying 50-70meters above highway (ususaly fog is less there due to road temp. and you know where highway is) crew looking out trying not to hit anything. We wouldn't do that for anyone but as said if it was kids all bets were off.

Human or not, a child must be protected.
Eh, military is pretty universal in this way.
More likely you would run into problems in the civilian sector.
Its humanitarian for us to care.

And sometimes we turn loose the nightmares on those who would disturb our dreams.
At this rate all aliens in any trouble will show up as refugees to human space. lol (But yea - kid is a kid and you don't touch anyone's child.)

Its really fitting that when humanty see refugees being treated terribly, we all feel like we are suddenly injected with a sympathy dose, and when it comes to a missing child? that sympathy turns into a resolve, worry and rage of a stressed mother as if the the child were our own
When anywhere near humans, do NOT screw with children.
As an old Marine - I can relate to the protective feelings that those Marine grunts had for those who were weaker and/or less fortunate (ie: Gree'sha, Jinya). I tried my best to both know and to come to the defense of our weaker allies - and to treat the people in every country with the respect and deference that they deserved. However, that abruptly stops as soon as I detect a dishonorable, lying person - no matter who they are....

If you want to get down to the brass tacks of it, we, like wolves, are pack-orientated to varying degrees. Our higher order of thinking lets us welcome strangers into our packs and if there are young pups around, (insert Deity here) help you if you so much as make a child yelp.

Honestly, the feelings and actions of barbaric hatred would have been most intense if any of those slavers were also Human.
They could be given the /smallest/ of mercies because of there cultures BUT *YOU* YOU KNOW EXACTLY WHAT YOU HAVE DONE

This is how a people survive evolving on a hell world
I imagine that a part two of this story would somehow lead to others seeing that the humans would help protect them. Accidentally causing a refugee crisis. Ending with an alliance with the remnants of her people and humans.
Love this, another show of you never meas with kids when humans are near and the indomitable will to help others.

I mean most of the time there is a need for compensation... but not everything needs compensation. Some things need to be done regardless... just because of the principle of it and as a example.

Yelp,humans are argumentative, anger,volatile to a fault. But where we choose to be we are gracious to all. Children and the weak are our weakness. Don't mess with either.
The slavers messed with three women and a child. QED. "By whatever means necessary" orders are issued to a bunch of VERY protective marines. And two more people are pack bonded with humans (if they weren't already).
Holy hell this is the absolute best out of all these types of stories. Tears in my eyes.
I really hope that this becomes a series.
But like if we let one slip out others will certainly attempt to do more pirating in our Space, stopping the shit here, and now at one little girl tell those pirates we will not stop.

I mean we come to the conclusion that Slacery is bad like two centuries ago. And I sure as hell want to keep it that way. We have to better our current situation, as it is not perfect itself. But I believe we will rise above any kind of slavery, hidden in technicalities or not. Slavery shall be ridden by the Human race in the future. And I remain optimistic we can do it.
And should we enter the cosmos as the only ones who feel that way… The slavers of galaxy will learn to fear the legacy of John Brown, the enslaved will consider him a prophet.
Of course the species with the ability to perfectly understand each others' emotions nearly nuked themselves into extinction. Heh.

Amazing story! It had me on a roller coaster of emotions!
An empath would be so very confused by me. They'd feel deceit, compassion, rage, and finally curiosity+earnestness before I spoke. Deceit would be because I'd think of the utilitarian uses of empaths, compassion as I remember their story, and rage for the fact it happened. Then, I'd get to the most intersectional point: The individual. I want to know who this is.
Edit: I thought the We Do would be a marriage. Ah well, maybe another story. Some other time
Humans *love* to fight... so much so that even our _emotions_ fight one another. Conflicting, opposed emotions will be having a goddamn _slobberknocker_ in our minds; we can look totally calm while seething with white-hot rage, or we can beat the crap out of someone with ice-cold practicality. We can bury attraction with a stronger desire to be egalitarian; or we can love what we know is bad for us.
But our emotions are just like us. Humans will fight other Humans, Human nations will fight other Human nations. We'll divide ourselves up along any line that presents itself in rampant factionalism. *Right up until* a common enemy shows up. One must truly pity the poor, sorry SOB who has either abundant misfortune or deficient good sense to get *all* the emotions of a Human's mind to look at each other, look at the common foe, look back at each other, all nod in unison, crack their metaphorical knuckles, and all slowly turn their heads in your direction and moving with both purpose and unity. That's when you *know* you dun fucked up, when the apex predator, the kindness, the intellectual problem solver, the will to get things done, and the stubbornness to never accept "no" as an answer in a Human's mind have *all* mutually agreed to put kicking the crap out of each other on hiatus so they can take a break to gang up on *you.*
After the title and the first human, I thought they were getting married.
It's interesting that most hft that are positive about humanity tends to have humanity as western Europe or America as we would wish to be, and are some of the time. I expect others would as well and others not.
