  • This is a short video of the building process of a Shearwater sport kayak. The kit was purchased from CLC boats. This is my second boat I've built (the first was a Cedar strip canoe). While this boat is not perfect, I've learned a ton that I can carry to the next boat. The video consists of roughly 7900 photographs taken at 30 second intervals. When the math is done, it works out to about 72 hours it took to build this boat. Several hours I did not have the camera with me when working, so that is factored in as well. The boat is a surprise for my stepmother. Enjoy the video!

Thank you Dan! I too loved the build. A bit different for me as I'm used to fine woodworking. My first boat was a Cedar Strip canoe so this was a nice change from the complexities of everything.

Hey Tyler, awesome video. I'm thinking of doing a shearwater sport myself. I was wondering about the different wood color on the top compared to the bottom. Is there a way with the kit to get the finish on the top panels and the bottom panels to be the same light color?
