  • DJ Uiagalelei saw a roller coaster ride during his time at Clemson before transferring to Oregon State after last season, and on Late Kick Live Ep 382 Josh Pate spoke about comments DJ made to The Athletic about how the fit wasn't great at Clemson. What do we make of the direction the Tiger offense took last season under first-year OC Brandon Streeter? Could we see DJ Uiagalelei resurrect his career at Oregon State and be right back on the NFL Draft radar this time next season? No matter how complex or "basic" the offense scheme is. If you cant hit a open receiver you just cant hit a open receiver. I feel like his accuracy issues is what lead to the the so called "basic" scheme. You can't run complex route trees if your qb cant hit a 5 yard dig route. Or if he gets stuck on his first read and doesnt go through his progressions. I wish him the best and hope he succeeds at Oregan State.

DJ turned the ball over in the red zone that led to the only time GA found the end zone in 2021 for what started the Georgia rise. DJ couldn’t be trusted and made tragic decisions that cost the tigers when playing high ranked teams. I think both Streeter and Elliot is out because of this even tho Elliot took the VA head coach job. The whispers around CU were “glad that he’s(Elliot) gone”. IF he had these types of opinions going in. if he's always had thoughts like this i would've told him to play for somebody else from the jump. that's the point of the recruitment cycle process he went through. He's allowed his evaluation as a player to be impacted by his decision making on a basic level because my main conclusion when i hear any of his excuses/ explanations, is why did you go to Clemson in the 1st place if these were important things to you? you know those Bryce and stroud kids from ur home state that you were so Confident you were better than you wouldn't even see them for a week in oregon? He was a HUGE get for Clemson, make no mistake.
We saw his ceiling; even if many fans forgot, some of us can't. Even Trevor got worse.

I'm happy that he found a good football fit at OSU.
I believe guys in the future are going to stack themselves for 3 years behind 4/5 star guys at a big school.
They will go to lesser school in a power 5 conference, so they can play and show what they got to get to the next level.

DJs first year was under tony Elliot, after a year of studying under Trevor Lawrence. DJs number improved drastically the first year with Streeter. The offense immediately looked like Clemson’s brand of offense the moment that Cade took the field. The problem is DJ. He’s too slow for the big stage, mentally. Everyone else is moving faster than him in the field, both mentally and physically. If not for his size, people would have been done with him a long time ago. The only thing he needs to say is “thank you” to Dabo for being willing to simplify the offense to the point of simple screen passes (which he repeatedly missed) and nothing but unwavering public support.

    @jonathanbenton5142 ปีที่แล้ว +9

DJ was bad for two years though.
In ‘21 you still had Elliot, who won two titles for us and the offense with DJ fell off the map.
There was some talk about i jury that year as well… and we heard all last offseason how DJ was slimmer/trimmer and healthy.
And to be fair to both he and Streeter: in the beginning of the year DJ did play better and this year overall the offense improved.
But DJs issues weren’t just a new inexperienced OC or injuries. It may have been fit in the system. But it was also his inaccuracy, inability to run the ball or make the run option reads quick enough.
Let’s see what he does at Oregon State… but after watching him for two years plus, I would be surprised if he becomes a big name in the NFL draft discussions.

    1) Brandon Streeter was a OC before he came to Clemson, at Richmond.
    2) What DJU said was correct and incorrect at the same time…
And I believe this as well. If Tony Elliott stays on as OC, DJ would have been under center more. I also feel like his QB coach (Streeter) did him no favors trying to conform him and being upset when it didn’t work.
However, if you don’t like something, are you giving your best effort? Most people don’t. If you don’t want to run the ball or play out of the shotgun a bunch, it’s going to affect your ability to be effective.
Should Clemson had kept Streeter? I think the Tennessee game answered that question. The QB wasn’t ready when you had an entire season to get him ready and the offense looked stagnant once the field depth got shorter.
So the DJU criticism can me correct and incorrect at the same time.

Streeter had been a coordinator prior to his time at Clemson. (Do some research.) No one made bad throws, held the ball too long, or misread defense coverages except one person. Truth be told, when he first hit the field we were all in belief of his hype. Dude looked like a cold stud replacing Trevor in injury. Call it beginners luck, or poor defense… the boy balled out. I mean it was an absolute tragedy watching what we watched last year. We can blame a lot of extraneous factors on his production. We can even say he should’ve done a better job selecting a program that best fits him… or can we? Dudes just chucked out Watson and Lawrence and some nattys, why would that not be his next home. What I can say is his progress stopping that was on him. He just didn’t look like he got better. Even if he felt the offense was simple, one dimensional or all the negative things he had to say, he still looked like the worse player on the field.
Lastly, what really f****d him up, was when the back-up came in and saved their season

Eh I see a lot of comments saying Clemson dumbed down the offense for DJ. No they didn’t… they always had a super basic offense scheme wise, the problem is… two of the three QBs before DJ were Deshaun Watson and Trevor Lawrence. Also the play calling had much more rhythm in years past. Was the scheme the reason why DJ wasn’t successful though… no. But Dabo realized he needed to make a change because it’s going to be hard to get a top 5 QB to just waltz through the door and probably shouldn’t bank on it.

Well, I am NOT in the camp that ever thought DJU was any good. Basically he made our O 1-dimensional from Day 1. He is so slow that I'm 73 yo and wanted to come to Death Valley and challenge him to a foot race. He runs slower than most linemen, especially D linemen / edge rushers. No, I am not one of those people that thought he was the answer. Never, not one single day. If anyone thinks he was bad at Clemson, just wait until he plays at Oregon State. I gotta watch that disaster. They think he's their answer. Are they ever in for a rude awakening. As for Dabo and Streeter not playing Cade, I understand Dabo just tries to give his players every opportunity to be successful, even until the obvious end. As for Streeter, he was never good at OC from Day 1, and glad he's been replaced. He will be fine at a smaller school, and I appreciate his efforts while at Clemson, but he is just not capable to OC at a top 10 school. As for DJU, I couldn't care less what he says about Clemson. He stalled so many drives, I cringed every time he had the ball. Good grief, Cade must have really been extremely bad not to have beat DJU out for starter at QB.

I was never really high on DJU.. That period where he came in for an injured Lawrence, that team was loaded with talent. It was like, "as long as he doesn't come in and is just TERRIBLE, he won't mess it up." But then Lawrence got drafted, and DJ gained a bunch of bad weight.. And even more bad weight.. And it just never looked crisp and clean when he was leading the team. Maybe this move will help him, maybe not.. But im not expecting teams in the NFL to see much value in him as a pro
