A higher up there made some bad choices and there were some institutional issues with sexism/racism. she fought for change and got sidelined(or decided to leave depending on source, I’m guessing a mix of both). even sadder: activated charcoal can deactivate or interfere with certain long-term medications, including antidepressants and hormonal birth control. if you're on antidepressants, it might literally make you sadder. (if you want to make food black without the side effects of activated charcoal, squid ink works too)
Yeah cos charcoal is sometimes force fed to people who overdose or accidentally ingest something poisonous. Black cocoa powder is also a great substitute

It affects everyone differently. Both my husband & I had it back in June & neither one of us are weak or short of breath. But some people I know are pretty slow to recovery. It looks like she's recovered very nicely but it could be a remaining "gift" from covid. The real kicker is that no one really knows how this thing will affect anyone !
When Sohla set up this show to come up once a month, I was like "This is great. I can be patient. Once a month is enough." And then she shows up on Food52. And then NYT Cooking. And then Harper's Bazaar. I'm just soaking up all the Sohla content. It's like being showered with endless puppies.

tbh, no one who takes any kind of medication, even multivitamins, IIRC, can eat the grey cake. activated charcoal will neutralize their medication.
