I was a Dental hygienist. One year on Halloween a regular patient came in for his cleaning. When I asked him to open his mouth, he did & I saw a "huge roach" on his tongue! I screamed & jumped out of my chair.
He got me good. It was a toy plastic roach. 😅 I told him to do it to the dentist as well when he came in for the check up. It was a legendary story in the office.

I love how this series initially framed Sohla as an unwitting participant but quickly unveiled itself as Sohla flexing being the culinary mad scientist that she is.
The “stump” part is less “Sohla suffers for our entertainment” and more “Sohla puts on the culinary equivalent of DBZ’s weighted clothing because everything else would be too easy”
I think culinary mad scientist is amazingly accurate for Sohla

Something Sohla’s current show reminds me of is the episode of Bon Appetit where she was tasked with making a modern version of spaghetti. This series with Sohla has very quickly become my most anticipated and favorite TH-cam series in a long while. I love her attitude, talent, and overall personality. Please, never stop.
I loved Gourmet Makes as much as the next person but seeing Sohla just go with the flow when things go wrong instead of have a mental breakdown is refreshing lmao 💀
She’s just having fun and enjoying herself, that’s what we want
Claire was constrained by having to make something that looks and tastes right though.
And her crew seemed to be jerks too, really.
@@recoil53 agreed! I love gourmet makes, but seeing claire stressed all the time wasn't my fave. When she stepped into doing Brad's show, she seemed to have so much fun.
And I also agree it was likely her crew that contributed to that.
@@olimelonhead12 I think the producer put a lot of pressure on her, both in terms of time limits for the shoots and level of perfection he expected of her. It went from being a fun recreation of foods she liked and a strong challenge that required problem-solving, to just her striving for perfection with insufficient time and resources. The fact that she went back to every shoot really says something about her commitment though!
@@olimelonhead12 When Claire did It's Alive with Hunzi, she was outright surprised that a crew could be nice.
Her crew will keep throwing things at her even when she tells them to stop and she doesn't like it. I also feel like they pressure her when she needs to take a moment.
Yes her stress was a little funny at first, but then it's too much. Of course she didn't sign a new contract and now BA/CN is minus a money maker.

It is all the little things that just make this video so good. The secrets of cilantro, short asmr breaks, the babish voice over with the laugh at the end. You earn every penny you all make
I was so surprised that I hadn't seen a comment calling out the babish voiceover with the laugh Drunk History-style yet. Everything was wonderful but that caught me off guard with how funny it was. :D
“No color is going to be more represented then the other” she @-ed Bon Appetit with such subtlety a true queen 👑

I really wanted her to make a caramel onion.
I brought candied apples to a Halloween party years ago, and included a single Spanish onion in the batch.
Looked identical to the apples. :)
How was the onion received?
You're a monster and a genius.
When I was in elementary school, we had a exhibition of some kind, they blindfolded and plugged the nose of a kid, had them bite into an onion and he thought it was an apple.
I'm so happy for Sohla, she really seems like she's having a ton of fun with this new show. I'm sure Andrew was probably ecstatic to bring someone with her professional knowledge and experience onto his channel to work with him, too
Andrew has to be lowkey sweating having someone as accomplished as Sohla working for him.
“You make the rules down here. This is your domain.” Andrew gave Sohla this space to do with as she pleases. What an amazing opportunity. I’m so happy to see Sohla make stuff and do things and be herself. And Andrew is cool because of that. Yay things! *has feelings*

The cilantro was probably the most diabolical of them all.
There's 2 types of people, ones who enjoy cilantro and the others (like myself) who have a genetic predisposition for it to taste like soap. Something with the olfactory receptors zeroing in on that specific taste...or something. I just can't. As much as I try it over and over, I just can't do it. Since it's in my genes, I guess there's no way around it.

Tastes like soap no way
As someone who works in a bakery the scariest thing in the episode was the scale not working
Man I'm a baker and if that ain't one of the damest things that and the power going out right when you start baking cause you didn't notice the wind storm outside lol
This is all so delightful. Honestly, I'm still loving Sohla complimenting Andrew's pizza mid-ep. That's a high compliment coming from a trained chef to a self-taught chef.
Sohla to scale: "Tare. Tare. Tare..... Tare. Tare."
Sohla to sugar: "Tear!"
I laughed way harder than I probably should have.
Rip...and tare?
Because I was a weird kid, I mastered how to perfectly open candy wrappings so I could put it back together and it look fine. I didn't have any rhyme or reason to why I did it. My siblings hated it because they would constantly grab empty bags of candy and know it was me.
Anyways, Sohla struggling with the wrapper reminded me of that
I did this (around 12 or 13) because my parents would confiscate MY candy. So I would hot glue the empty wrappers together so they would grab the air filled ones thinking it was factory error or a trick from candy passers.
I did this too! I think for me it was more of an OCD / ADHD based thing though, just something extra to keep my mind and fingers busy and also give the satisfaction of perfectly preserved wrappers. Such a funny thing to look back on!
Did you have a rhyme or reason for putting your trash back into the candy? ‘Cause that’s kind of a dick move, really.
I'm glad I'm not the only one who did that! I also refolded the foils of gum and put it back in the box or open a can of soda just a hair so I can suck out the contents and refill it with water by submerging it in a bowl of water. I stopped doing it eventually cause people got mad...
Andrew: **drinks the witches brew**
