It’s really refreshing to hear you talking through an efficient set of modern resources. Electronic charts, paper publications and a simple set of apps, which complement each other - wouldn’t challenge your list in any way. Pretty much ‘best practice’ amongst many sailors I know. (Sigh, yes many will want at least a couple of basic paper charts - passage planning and refuges - but few will actually look at them). Great video.

Thanks for the comment! I never felt like there was a major gap in our approach. The only potential issue without carrying paper charts is if the boat goes totally dark, but in all honesty, we will have bigger fish to fry if that is the case! I cannot use a sextant so I will still be relying on electronic devices for GPS if we are out to sea, and if we are close to land we have enough backup devices to get us through.

Thanks guys. My wife and I are really enjoying your channel and hopefully you're enjoying making them so you continue to do so :)

Thank you, that’s so nice to hear! Yes we’re enjoying making them and have a few more lined up, just need the weather to improve a bit so we can do some more sailing for future videos!

@@DelfinoDiscovers so you’re full time livaboards…what’s the plan for the coming season and beyond??

Ish! We are planning to spend a few months a year back in the UK with friends and family, but the rest of the time we'll be on Delfino sailing her wherever we fancy.
We spent the winter doing some more food and travel related content as we decided to move off Delfino for the winter, but now we are ready and waiting for an opportunity to cross the channel and explore Brittany.

Nice 👌🏼 sounds like a plan. I won’t ask you the obvious question of how you’re financing this rather amazing lifestyle - I’m sure that can be the subject of a future vlog 😇

To buy the boat - we both got lucky with good jobs. I had the opportunity to build and sell a small tech business. I'm also still working part time, remotely. I have to fly to the US routinely for work, which also gives us the opportunity to film some different content.

Great ! Just ordered the Nigel Calder bible lol + his book on Marine engines from a store near us as it was cheaper than amazon. (we're in Sweden, we have a boat but it's a full restoration job as she's 58 years old & so those books will be a godsend). Great video for us newbies, Thanks.

I agree, I recommend the Clyde Cruising Club Handbook. I have been using it since the 70's. Way back in the day they did give anchoring directions and tips. Way back in the day we sailed with a paper chart and a compass. GPS, radar, AIS, plotters were something out of science fiction. How times have changed. One day, I may even have a bow thruster 😀.

The barrier to entry without GPS, radar, AIS, plotters would've been significantly higher for us! I appreciate them, but I also wonder if a bit of the magic is taken away with all the gizmos.
