Both these models enjoying their sweet time in market just because of the fact that the best in this segment got eradicated from India!!! FORD ENDEAVOUR
to be honest , there is no as such convincing reason to buy a fortuner. Apart from looks , whatever it's offering, is something we wanted back in 2012 or so. Toyota should look forward to add features in its car and make it refined like its competitors
1.Very sad to see an Indian customer pay almost 62 Lakhs for a Fortuner????? I would happily get a BMW 2 Series/Mercedes-Benz CLA + Baleno/i20! 2.Most owners of the Toyota are simply bad drivers who use the size of their car to intimidate and harass others. Don't forget that horrible full beam. 3. The Ford Endeavour actually was the true king. 4. The Meridian does stand out. Nice to see a Meridian or a C5 Aircross instead of the ice cream cart Fortuner. 5. I think both cars would be better options as used vehicles. 6. Such a shame to see the Fortuner with an interior like that. It seriously let's the car down. Deeply disappointing but not surprising. 7. The Indian customer wants value for money and safety. We don't want cars that are overpriced and not worth it. The Meridian is a much better deal.
Having owned both albeit the smaller version of the jeep I feel compelled to put in my two bits, I drive to Manali every month from delhi and I use both the jeep and fortuner alternatively. The Toyota is definitely more robust and takes the shellacking a lot better than the jeep over the rough stuff ladder frame having a distinct advantage over monocoque however it’s a lot more luxurious in the jeep and more fun than in the Toyota i have done roughly 50000 on both machines and they are both in immaculate condition i love them both but if I had a gun to my head I’d pick the jeep
Toyota charges a hefty unwarranted premium just for the kind of demand it has. It is counter intuitive that more demand in turn results in steeper price which ideally should have been cheaper(because of economy of scale).
This is why I think FCA will exit the market in the future because they simply cant compete in a market that is driven by sales volume. I bought my first car (Jeep Compass) a few months ago and was pretty shocked by the margins manufactures make. The below is the breakup Original Car value: 14.5 Lakhs Manufacturer margin: 50K Showroom margin: 1 Lakh Car Value before tax: 16 Lakhs CGST: 2.3 lakhs SGST:2.3 lakhs Cess: 2.8 lakhs Road Tax on Ex showroom(Total of above): 4.71 lakhs (19,98% PS: Bangalore can well and trully f*ck off ) On Road: 29 lakhs Note: For any car related service. There is practically nothing that's below 18% GST category, Spares are 24 %, labor is 18% etc.
The only thing with meridian is it's dimensions it looks classy and premium but that lower height gives a perception of smaller car hence people would eventually think it's not a mid size suv like fortuner. If only this car had bigger dimensions kind of like mg gloster then it would happen pretty nice to look at and people would have paid that much money for this car because that size would be a sign of reliability in people's perception.
Damn, Toyota looks like it came back from time, looks at least like a 10 year old car. Can't imagine people pay almost 50 lacs for this. Start calling out Toyota for taking Indian customers for a ride.
Fortuner, simply because of its reliability. If you are spending close to 40L, you want a headache free experience, which the Toyota gives you. No matter where you put it through it will come out on top.
Good review!👍 I read on teambhp quite a good amount of issues with the Meredian which I don't think would have ever creeped in the fortuner....that's not to say it justifies it price and quality!
The people who buy Fortuner and Meridian has a complete different requirements . Having a 2015 Fortuner in garage, i would like to share what are the requirements of people who go for fortuner. 1) Space, Fortuner’s 3rd row is decent and you can put 7 people in that car if needed. 2) They just want a car which will take whatever you throw at it. They don’t need a car of which they have to worry about weather to take it somewhere or not. 3) Something big always feels better on highways when there are all the big trucks going around. 4) They already have other 1 or 2 cars lying in their garage for city and ocassional highway purpose
Nice Review..... Meridian is an after thought from Jeep wanting to compete in this segment. Space is an issue and frankly doesnt differentiate so much with Jeep ( other than third row ) . Jeep had an opportunity to customize the space for India but decided to keep cost play to compete. What they dont realize is, to dethrone Fortuner, and attract this segment, you need to be the best !!!
For me it's Toyota.... Reason:- 1. It's Toyota 2. It's sheer power output of 205 compared to 170... 3. Third row.. 4. Im old school 😅... Yes it's price is upsetting 🤔😔😑
Hi Gavin, great comparo. Congratulations. Why didn’t you include MG Gloster here for comparison? It’s great on features, has a superior space (third row is spacious for adults too) and a refined engine too. Only let down is low-end response through the gearbox. I guess it would have been a even comparo. Thank you 😊
People have no idea how goood fortuner is.... I have been riding a fortuner from the past 6 years. It can be used easily in the city, the power and acceleration you get is insane and the safety of riding such a huge and strongly build car is incredible. Nevertheless you won't get a riding comfort as driving a car, but that is the whole point of these types of vehicles. It's like riding an elephant through the roads honestly 😅😅
If Jeep India reads this please know that we have lost faith in Jeep’s retail business model in India. You may be having distinguished products but with closing dealerships, especially in cities other than metropolitans only the brave would venture into buying a Jeep. Sad but true m.
So true I have Jeep Compass since 4 years, did think about service outlets before I bought, it was 30km away from house even that is closed, now it’s 70km they charge 1200 to pick up the car sometimes ask for 1500 plus tip the driver even to replace wipers I had to spend 1500 for pick 5500 wipers 1000 labour plus 200 tip and my fuel cost, parts r not available anywhere other than service centre, the reason I’m keep it is it gives a great driving experience, the day I find a suv which would match this I’ll sell in a wink. I have a harrier too which the driver drives I got zero issues very less maintaining, just that the drive is not as good as a Jeep. Please don’t buy a fortuner Toyota insulting Indian car buyer sensibilities boycott it. Toyota have great products but they don’t get them to India.
Please do a detailed and dedicated review of the ScorpioN AC (Cooling) effectiveness. No channel has done a proper video of this aspect specially in hot weather and for the 3rd row of the Scorpio N.
People say only Jeep is better in comments section but still Toyota is the highest selling car.... can see lots of Toyota on the roads.... Indian Consumers need more reliable engine than anything else, I believe...
The Meridian is obviously catered towards older people who don't care about Butch macho looks and want sedate drive and Mile Munching with off-road to an estate or some mud at best. The Fortuner however, is for buyer who wants to show they have the bigger car and reliable too. And especially the TH-cam commenters and 3rd tier cities and villages.
Comments section full with ppl claiming how Endeavour would have ruled the segment and how Fortuner is successful only coz Endeavour is not present. Lol!! Endeavour was in market trying to compete with Fortuner and it failed miserably each and every quarter of each and every year.
They didn't fail miserably... endeavour always had 40-60 % sales of fortuner... compared to what's happening with gloster and alturas that's insanely good
i love my fortuner, it might be behind in terms of features but the excllent driving experience makes up for it...but toyota u need to seriously level up in features n come down in terms of pricing😂😂
Jeep almost made the perfect car in the segment. All they had to do was make it more intimidating (taller) and give it a better engine. Even if it didn’t perform well, owners would not have to shy away while arguing with XUV / Harrier owners 😂
fortuner is king 👑 of Indian roads when we see the roads the car is coming like a elephant.fortuner is more than 50% percentage sales in their segment each month
Both these models enjoying their sweet time in market just because of the fact that the best in this segment got eradicated from India!!! FORD ENDEAVOUR

*miss you ENDEAVOUR the monstrous Dad of SUVs !!*

Really love the way Gavin, kunal and Renuka Mam review almost every car in the market. Love autocar.
Damn, Toyota looks like it came back from time, looks at least like a 10 year old car. Can't imagine people pay almost 50 lacs for this. Start calling out Toyota for taking Indian customers for a ride.
Should’ve added the Gloster to this comparison :) - regardless, I’m sure the Meridian has the potential to do something in the segment…
The comparison we didn't think of, but the one that we needed.
Fortuner, simply because of its reliability. If you are spending close to 40L, you want a headache free experience, which the Toyota gives you. No matter where you put it through it will come out on top.
Endeavour was best in segment but now Fortuner is my pick over Meridian. Instead of Meridian I will buy XUV700 and save some money.
XUV 700 you cannot even imagine its THIRD ROW SEATS. Just visit and check
Ford ..... Endeavour..... I really miss this comparison. 😭
Everybody knows any car in this segment is better than the Fortuner, yet we Indians still keep buying them.
Gavin, India’s answer to Rory Reid. Superlative review mate. Cheers.
Good review!👍 I read on teambhp quite a good amount of issues with the Meredian which I don't think would have ever creeped in the fortuner....that's not to say it justifies it price and quality!
Will definitely pick meridian.

Missed you man, a great fan of your show, especially for the word (panoramic sunroof) 😂well happy you are back 🤟🏽🔥
Meridian seems a sensible choice to me.
I prefer Jeep as my car and brand that gives recognition
Such an honest review.
Keep it up, We expect nothing but honesty.
I have 2 Fortuners 2017 & 2022) .
I am very happy with them .
I'm still fan of perfectly tuned 2007 Pajeros & Montero
David vs Goliath. Good analogy 👌😂

Nice and precise review but endevour is beind missed 😕 badly fortuner and endevour true suv
Excellent comparison
Toyota fans targeted in the verdict
Gloster is my choice complete value for money
Fortuner is absolute dominance 🔥🔥🔥
Only it's change if Ford endeavour comeback at similar price 😅
Need a comparison of Scorpio n and fortuner 💪🏻
If new ford endeavour is here this fortuner would be completely defeated!!
Funny to see a comparison between American and Japanese cars from the same segment where the American one is comparatively tiny!
I ll surely get the meridian.
Jeep dominates .
Both are top notch vehicles. But the Toyota's reliability and durability is just unmatched and peace of maintenance
Jeep meridian 🙌🙌
These Both are Just enjoying Best time Once Lion Ford Endeavour is back Game Over
Meridian is class apart, that Fiat Multijet 2.0 engine in light years ahead in technology over Toyota's unit
Jeep meridian is luxury and premium SUV with good mileage
Toyota fortuner is rugged SUV less mileage but more power in engine
Alturas G4 An Underrated
One. Big In Every Dimension From Fortuner under 35.5 lakhs
Not well marketted... didn't even have 10% the hype xuv700 got
I think Mg Gloster should be the new standard to compare vehicles in this segment, Not the outdated and too costly Fortuner.
Without doubt Fortuner ❤️
Jeep meridian for driving experience
Fortuner for relabile and offraod eexperience
People have no idea how goood fortuner is.... I have been riding a fortuner from the past 6 years. And its quite old now...2016 release it's competition endeavour has got its new gen so toyota might be coming up with a new one soon
The Jeep any day! I am a HEMI fan
Love this guy
Fortuner is becoming overrated and over-priced.. The Grs legender costs 58l on road ahmedabad.. man🤒

Jeep is the legender in this segment...
The fortuner has become a status symbol in India
Keep it up! 😄
Will buy meridian if a trailhawk version comes, and brown goes.
Undoubtedly FORTUNER ✌🏻
Please do a detailed and dedicated review of the ScorpioN AC (Cooling) effectiveness. No channel has done a proper video of this aspect specially in hot weather and for the 3rd row of the Scorpio N.
Only here for Gavin..!!
JEEP ALL THE WAY 🔥
Definitely will choose Meridian....Fortuner is simply getting too expensive....
Good Comparison, I think Jeep Meridian Vs Škoda Kodiaq will be more appropriate even though fuel used is different, it’s both in equal segment ….
True
Both have quiet a big diif on height on paper .
but here they both look almost equal.
It'd be better if you compare the Meridian to XUV 7OO and Safari.
This doesn't mean the Fortuner is better in any way.
you should also compare this with the new Scorpio n
People say only Jeep is better in comments section but still Toyota is the highest selling car.... can see lots of Toyota on the roads.... Indian Consumers need more reliable engine than anything else, I believe...
The fortuner's interior looks so old school omg
Will Ford ever come back? that too with the endeavour ?
What's the point with no assembly line they'll be twice as expensive
Fortuner interior looks atleast 10 years old generation cars
Should've also taken the Scorpio-N in this comparison
fortuner is bulletproof.. dependable engine and best resale.. still being old school..
3 rd row of jeep offers proper squatting position. Once u sit their for long time u will have to run to the toilet ASAP
Compare Goliath vs Goliath
Meridian is good competitor of maruti ertiga, hyundai alcazar. It is no where near to the mighty fortuner.
But meridian looks more modern and luxury.
Giving the same power output as the compass is short changing customers in an otherwise excellent product
You should have compared both 4X4 variants
Jeep stands out. Toyota already over charges the customer and take maintenance money in advance. Not worth the price.
Is fortuner legend, really 720kg more in weight than meridian?!
Jeep is the better car
But fortuner is the king of all suvs
And thats why it sells
Even though it doesn’t justify its price
Any update regarding the launch of Fortuner leader in India
Doesn't matter with competition no matter who wins ......😂 Fortuner is what's there in everyone's mind and is morally a winner
Where's the skoda kodiaq??
What about the Gloster? How would that stack up against the Meridian?
Fortuner 😍😎🔥♥️💯
The Meridian is obviously catered towards older people who don't care about Butch macho looks and want sedate drive and Mile Munching with off-road to an estate or some mud at best.
The Fortuner however, is for buyer who wants to show they have the bigger car and reliable too. And especially the TH-cam commenters and 3rd tier cities and villages.

Fortuner 🔥🥰
a normal fortuner with 4wd and a manual
You shd have compared it with new scorpio n as well
GLOSTER 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
NO BAD REPLY PLZ
Mitsubishi should make a come back.
Fortuner will become 70 lakh car in 2 years
Jeep almost made the perfect car in the segment.
Good review and conclusion, but end of the day, it has to reflect in volumes, which unfortunately Toyota has the advantage..
@autocar please give a Fortuner video with Nikhil Bhatia
