LYRICS:
Kill or be killed
Cornered, I'm exhausted with fear
Our love and compassion dissolve
Demons have materialised in me
Can't fight them, they're taking control
Tried, oh, I've tried, so hard to be good
But the world rewards us when we’re bad
Fate
Is driving me insane
Is forcing me to face
I must kill or be killed
Driven a stake right through my heart
I'm growing so cold and detached
Tried, oh, I've tried, so hard to spread love
But she prefers it when I assert control
Fate
Has brought us here to face
Our hopes and dreams erased
Either kill or be killed
Either kill or be killed
Fate
Is driving me insane
Is forcing me to face
I must kill or be killed
Kill or be killed

Thank you so much !!!
the instrumental is pretty ok, but those lyrics are utter shit
I was just looking for the word ‘control’ and there it is haha
It’s “perverse it” not “preserve it”
If it was preserve, then it would have a Z sounding S, like “pre-zerve”
Instead you’re mistaking Matt’s slight issue with pwoper P words, for hearing a “pr” where it should be a “per”
Per-verse
'The world rewards us when we're bad'

*"yes dear"*
It's a God-Tier song. No doubt about it.
Absolutely how I feel.
makes me sad knowing they could have been writing songs like these instead of the last three albums
@@H0NDAJET I have a similar feeling, it's clearly the type of song they are best at. Can't wait to hear the studio version! I enjoyed the last few albums but I was beginning to wonder if they were still able (or willing) to release such an old school banger. If they are enjoying what they are doing I think that is the most important thing.
@@H0NDAJET I disagree and you are saying that because that’s your favorite style from them. I like all of their styles they incorporate though. Muse isn’t about one type of song. Yes they rock hard with these types, but honestly they do good with their softer or poppy stuff too. I appreciate their whole catalogue and they should keep it diversified
@@H0NDAJET They are so versatible. That's what makes Muse what Muse is. They're not afraid of experiment.
Their base genre is rock / alternative rock, but they are able to make every type of music.
U see a lot of bands who are afraid of get out of comfortable. Muse is not.
I think that's everything muse fans wanted for this album. A mix of every sound of all the albums they've made
And of course, that leads a portion of the fans complaining about the songs they don't want lol. Yet they're all awesome
@@connoo-101 Exactly. They all complain but then they're gonna sing allong with them on their lives.
Stockholm Syndrome has hate when it was released, same thing for Time Is Running Out.
I don't like everything they put out, specially ST, but I understand they have to experiment because It's what they do. I love them no matter what.
lol nope, i down want wotp and compliance.

Song written in older vain but recorded to modern in my eyes.
This song needed the origin era production
@@Zexa21you‘re 100% right!
I forgot what it’s like to have a Muse song make me feel this way! Incredible. My favorite song of theirs since... The Handler?? Bloody brilliant in every way.
Feel this on a spiritual level. Best song since the handler, without a doubt.
@@artvjon Muse reminded us they are prog gods, at least for me. No rock band has had this creativeness, rawness and magic in the 21st century like this one (even though there are fantastic bands such as QOSTA, The Mars Volta, early Coldplay, King Gizzard & The Wizard Lizard, Tame Impala, Radiohead, among others).
What a prog metal top tier song, if they go for this prog ride in some of the songs of the album, I will consider it their best album since Oos/Absolution/BH&R days, which is very tough because those albums are masterpieces imho (even though I love their second era, T2L is a fucking great album and ST is good, Drones is very average unfortunately despite having some bangers like Dead Inside, Reapers, The Handler, Defector and The Globalist).
Greetings mate 🤘.

My thoughts exactly!! So hyped for this album, can't wait for the studio version
Incredible song! Like a fusion of Stockholm Syndrome, Take a bow, invincible, the handler, break it to me all at once whilst having its own unique sound.
You can hear like every muse song in this song.
I don't really hear Take A Bow on there, but I can hear the other songs. Maybe a little bit of Pressure, with the "Kill or Be Killed" lines.
@@Chico50445 At 1:34, the song switches from "Stockholm Syndrome" to "Take a Bow"
Next year I'm listening to Muse for 20 years and this song was the first in a long time, where I really had that "old Muse" feeling, the feeling why I fell in love with this extraordinary band. I really hope there will be more songs on the album like this 🤯
I agree, this is the most similar to OOS they have ever made
I don't want old muse. I want evolved muse. And that's what this is. A mix of everything they've done, because Drones, Simulation Theory and The 2nd Law cannot be forgotten for the gems they had.
@@PreludeOW yes I totally agree! People dislike certain albums for not having the same 'muse' sound they got to love from the first albums, but the sound has changed and tbh I like all the sounds, and this new track is a bit of an throwback to early tracks but sounds so much newer with the chugs at the end and an awesome melody!
@@PreludeOW I totally agree with you it's a mix of both worlds. But it's the first song in a while that gave me goosebumps. I don't want old Muse neither. But old elements that made them special for me mixed with new elements is a whole new level. And of course they evolve. And in my opinion it looked like they where having more energy and fun again, because of the long break. You can see another comment from me here I did before where I wrote basically the same thing ☺️
I was thinking the very same thing!!! These are the Muse I fell in love with so so many years ago ❤ (I still love them no matter what, like a mother does with their kids, but when they do songs like this I love them a little bit more 😂)
Matt's vocals here are far superior than the studio one.
Agreed. Idk why no one is talking about it. Still, it’s a great song.
Dom really shows us how good a drummer he is here. He really shines duringbthe heavy stuff
Can't wait to see how they keep evolving for years to come 😌

@@rodrigogomez1184 yes, but in an interview Matt mentioned that they would want to retire when they consider they would be satisfied... I think it's a hook for the fandom to worry about... but matt is very naive
I think there is much "absolution" sound in this song.....absolutely fantastic!!!!!!!!
There's hints of hysteria with the riffs and heavy drums, then butterflies and hurricanes but also a bit of Bliss, Drones and Stockholm Syndrome too.
If there's any words to explain how they manage to pull this off, they'd be here...
I think it's just because they're insanely talented musicians.
i wish the studio version "kill or be killed" part sounded like this and not the virtual whisper the actual track sounds like. i know live they made it loud because all they said this was a new song and they wanted people to know the title ASAP since they saw the track list.
So we’ve had Won’t Stand Down, Compliance, Will of The People and now Kill or Be Killed, all vastly different songs…
And I think I’m really liking this album.
EDIT: I’m going to say it. This might be my favourite Muse song of all time.
That’s the thing, Muse shines with its diversity in their song styles and people have favorites of theirs and some they don’t like but that’s what makes the band “Muse”. The name itself is what is personal to each individual person, their “Muse” for inspiration or whatnot. I like all the stuff they put out.
@@AtomizedSound Ah, that makes me smile. Someone who understands MUSE isn't just some heavy rock band. They do literally everything
the thing is the album will lack anything cohesive with one another and will have a lot of bad songs that come with the few gems
@@anseljames5531 I dunno, so far the only song I don’t like that much is Compliance. WSD is great, KoBK is fantastic, and Will of the People is just a fun stadium rocker.
@@willeh1947 I feel like the song could have just been better over all it dosent feel like it hits the level of some of the other songs and feels very underwhelming for a title track. The chanting of will of the people is repetitive and annoying with very subpar lyrics. Backround track was good but overall the song is just decent. When I see title track I assume I am going to be plesently surprised by the quality but it just seems as if they didn't put effort into this track. The others are better
Just saw this live and GOD DAMN ITS FUCKING AMAZING
This is probably the best song they put since BH&R/Absolution era, what a fucking prog metal masterpiece.
This version feels so much heavier. Maybe because the double bass drums are louder? I don't know, but it sounds so much better.

It’s a great hard riffing song for sure. Does have a mix of their older styles too, but I like all styles of what makes Muse, Muse. They aren’t locked into a specific genre or style so much. The listeners will have their favorites of course but that’s to be expected. I love all of the output they’ve done from soft and poppy to loud and hard rocking borderline heavy metal too. That’s why they have established a huge fan base is their diversity in the music landscape over the years. This new album which will be all over the place genre wise is another great album I predict from Muse. Keep rocking my fellow Museians

I hear a lot of things from this epic song, it really is god tier like the other person said and this comment section has the best comments i've seen about this song so far! I agree with you all and love how this song describes it self very good to us, this is what we've wanted to hear all along! My first expressions are Drones mixed with Absolution but in the amazing New Era sound while including parts from every other album *especially the old ones* we wanted to hear. A brutal breakdown in a muse song, holy Fck this song is fcking amazing.
Take a Bow and Bliss going for it in the chorus.
More like Glorious right?
@@thelinklater all sorts of Muse sounds to all people. Some hearing MOTP, handler and reapers. It's a belting track though.
The singing after the second chorus reminded me of break it to me, the synth in the chorus sounded like take a bow or falling away with you, the chorus reminded me of butterflies and hurricanes, and the solo resembled invincibles, this song is sick.
How the fuck does a live recording have better mixing than the studio version (mostly talking about drums, bass and the _"kill or be killed"_ scream)
This blows away everything they’ve released in the last like 15 years
Yes.

Wow, this goes way back. It's exactly the weird melodic way of singing and songwriting i love about Muse. Don't know how to describe it, the odd note switches just do it for me.

So refreshing, so metal but so Muse, as time goes by i have officially put Kill or be Killed in top 5 my fav Muse song of all time, that's a strong statement of this song's awesomeness, Pure Masterpiece.
Easily one of the best songs they've released since BHaR. One thing, though: a second verse on the final chorus would be perfect, I wanted more. Still, amazing song.
its actually way too long at the end, a good song does not need to be long

Ahhhh, there you are Muse.
Masterpiece.
That. Solo. That moved me to tears almost. The old Muse we all know in love is back
Absolutelutelutely BEST muse song in years!
I’ve been very critical of recent muse songs - not really listening to them much after release. But this.. THIS… this is excellent. Beyond excellent. This is a level of hype I haven’t felt since hearing muse for the first time. Stunned really.
Kinda irritates me, though. This song proves they're still capable of writing great songs, but they so frequently devolve into bland pop rock laziness that songs like this are few and far between. Songs like this prove it's a choice they've made, to create more poppy rock to please a mass audience, than to focus on creating interesting music that a mass audience may not necessarily flock to.
@@brandonb.5304 Here's the thing though. If the last 3 albums Muse made were all like their "old sound" then all of the fans would be complaining about how they're creatively bankrupt and need to move on in their songwriting. So while writing exclusively like their original sound seems to be a great idea at face value, I don't think people would actually like it long term. There's only so many ways you can arrange arpeggios and falsettos before it all starts sounding the same.
@@joshuawiedenbeck6944 I didn't say anything about trying to sound like their old sound. I said they've devolved into making bland, unimaginative pop rock--which they have. It's music to attract a mass audience. If they had created interesting and complex pop music, I'd be all for it, but they pretty much just did the bare minimum to make music that'd appeal to a mass audience. The lyrics are all cut and paste from the same tired revolution government bad paranoia thing they've been beating over the head for at least 3 albums now and the music isn't anything revolutionary. The entire 80s nostalgia thing from Simulation Theory had been done to death already before Muse even touched it, so by time the album came out that 80s wave in new media (music, TV, film) had already come and past. Majority of music they've made the past 3 albums has been uninspired, just trying to cash in on trends hoping to attract a wider audience.
Amen
I know WotP is an ode to another song, but it sounded like generic bar fighting rock music to me
The chord progression reminds me of showbiz era, the beat reminds me of the newer albums, the lyrics and vibe reminds me of Assassin and Stockholm Syndrome, Take A Bow. I miss this vibe so so so so much. This is the Muse i fall in love with!
WSD - Drones era Muse
Compliance - ST era Muse (pop)
WotP - 2nd Law era (Panic Station)
KoBK - BH&R era Muse

"Blockades" on multiple steroids!
And played it live
For context, Muse has used this exact same riff as an outro when playing live for over a decade. Glad to hear them turn it into a fucking epic song.
Great to see Muse exploring their Progressive Metal side again. This may very well be the heaviest song in their entire discography. With each of the four new tracks sounding so diverse and unique, the upcoming album probably won't be boring and I'm quite sure we're in for even more surprises. Can't wait! :D
Certainly not their heaviest. Almost all of OoS and some of Absolution are quite a bit heavier.

I think this song is fantastic, it might be a bit too heavy handed with it's attempt to sound metal, but it's really well written. I like this a million times better than any of the other singles. This is the first Muse song in years that actually sounds like Matt wrote it.

My goodness gracious me. This is the level of Muse that we want! 💯
Already dropped the money for the vinyl bundle when it was announced but damn now I’m more then hyped for august when it comes in with the signed prints
Sounds like a mix of Absolution and Drones, which is amazing!
