Yes that looks like straight solid one . These used to be very common when I was a youngster and yes they did rot ! Such a shame . Vauxhalls of this era had STYLE !
My Dad collected me from school in his brand new one back in 1959. I think it was the first one in Ramsgate in those days! I still remember that day really well. Dad loved his cars, as do I now. 😊🇬🇧
Great vid. I had a 61 in the mid 80’s, on one occasion with a near dead battery I manage to jump start it by dropping the back wheel off of a kerb. What an engine.
My dad had one of these ,i think it was a two tone green ,my dad loved it ,bench seats ,speedometer changed colour green orange red ,my dad did not like anyone passing him in it ,so the needle was red most of the time .
Same year & colour as my late fathers Cresta. It was his first car. Bought it used in 1963 but the rust had it done by 1967.He replaced with a MK3 Zephyr 6. My mum still remembers the Cresta but none of his other cars.
One of the reasons my dad back then was very much a Ford man hated Vauxhalls was because they rotted as you watched. To be fair 70's Fords rotted but no as bad.My old Cortina went that way before the days I knew how to weld.
If my memory serves me correctly these Vauxhall Crestas had American car styling, especially on the rear lights & the indicators were in seperate fins above the rear lights as well as the wrap around front windscreen. Yes these cars were nice & stylish inside but the rust started to appear from day 1 & once the rust had a hold the car just rusted away to practically nothing & only the engine & gearbox survived!
In about 1965 I had one just like that always remember 2262cc engine I loved it to bits but I sold it within a year as it was rusting away in front of my eyes I always say I do not care if the engine or gearbox it shot that can be repaird but rust is a killer.
Quite a cool car in its day, much more so nowadays, but not a patch on the comparatively conservative looking Austin A99 in terms of body strength and general toughness
Rust Buckets is an understatment, these rotted in the showrooms. I have a plaque in my car window that i display at shows etc "This Is A Ford Country, On A Quiet Night You Can Hear A Vauxhall Rust"
It was recycled Belgian scap metal and a deceased Vauxhall Dealer informed me that they could break their back on a railway level crossing!. In their time I saw their chrome protected with coloured anti rust lacquer
Given the handbrake requires the assistance of a rock behind the back wheel, I'm guessing that might need some work too. Just love these old Vauxhall though.
Yup and she's not a '61, she's very early or pre 1960, has the pre '61 smaller 2.2 motor and the wrong tail lights to be a '61 or '62 PAX Vauxhall, aye.
Nearly bought one of those in 1984 very poor maroon and grey paint. But body didn't look that bad I remember my farther saying at the time that they had problems with rust around the steering box when they was 2 to 3 years old when new I never bought the car as it was too much money
Lovely unusual, discreet colour scheme - (more individual) Sun visor must be specifically for this model - fits like a glove! PLEASE don't fit the hubcaps - looks great how it I'd- and far more individual!

I've still got an issue of Practical Classics from 1980 with one of these on the front cover, fantastic car..

Love Looking at These Video's, of those Old Vehicles, brings back memories
Thanks for sharing them.
My music teacher at Willfield School in Stoke had one of these. Mid 60s. Looked really good in green and black.

My dad had an E registration cresta greetings from Scotland 🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧
A mate had one in 1970 or so. We christened it HMS Victory as you didn't steer it, you navigated it
Most of these Cresta's in decent condition are usually South African imports, to find a decent original English model is like looking for hence teeth

My dad has a black and white one it's taken 25 years to get it on the road because of the rott

It is metal's equivalent to cancer.
its a 1960 cresta not 61
Thank you for doing right by this stunner!
Ghost Town Cresta
Vauxhall Cresta PA Jukebox, Specials Ghost Town 🇬🇧
Quite a cool car in its day, much more so nowadays, but not a patch on the comparatively conservative looking Austin A99 in terms of body strength and general toughness

Isn’t the 3 window one a Velox ?
The 3 window is probably a 57.
Still a few about so couldn’t have been that bad.
Vauxhall were no different from any other car make of that time they all rusted .Virtually no rust protection back in late 50s.
@@markthorne5025 It was optional, but most buyers just weren't interested.

One of the best cars I ever had.
'Til the rear spring hangers went through the floor under the rear seat !😒

Ghost town car !
A credit to the owner
It's frothy ♂️ man!

Lovely unusual, discreet colour scheme - (more individual)

So no good buying it if not got a garage to park it in
What a hot rod that would make 👌
Frothy man 😎
Colour wrong way round 59-60 model
Good design but just a rust box
I.O.M. Taxis.
They were rusting when you bought them new
This car is not that honest.
Look at the bow on OSF wing!
Vauxhalls of that era were all wannabe yanks in terms of their styling
Today's Vauxhalls are just as poor, mostly junk with cheaper than cheap parts flung together that rarely last unless you wrap them in cotton wool.
It is not and never was a Chevrolet engine
Right. The Chev engine is much better.
it was a general motors unit from the states I belive. the last crestas had a 3.3 motor. it pulled like a train.
