Great video! Fluid changes are one of the most important things you can do to prolong the life of your vehicle.

I'm at 36k on my '22... I'll do the fluid change at 40k. Thanks!

Awesome video! Saved it for my Bronco maintenance playlist. Could a person suction out the rear differential fluid through the fill plug or is it hard to get at?

That’s a good thought! I think it would be possible. Just feed it through and be sure to get as much as possible.

Your way is more thorough for sure. I’ll probably do it your way every other change or so. Keep up the great work!!

You can remove the brake line holder by pulling it off the stud and rotating out of the way. Much easier and less of a chance to break the holder

Good stuff Patty, if I could make one suggestion.
It’s always good practice, when maintains a (2) plug reservoir, to loosen/remove the fill plug first, before removing the drain plug.
    (1) It helps with draining
    (2) If you have problems removing the fill plug, you won’t be stranded with no way to refill what you have drained.

That’s a very good point! I actually filmed that portion be elected to remove due to time. Probably should have left it

Need to put a higher gear oil.. 75W110. 75W140 for heavy duty.. We run 75w140 in rear diff in Alaska.

Need? No. Could it be better for those that see more hard core use? Absolutely! The Ford prescribed viscosity is obviously meant to provide protection for normal use while not giving up that slight edge for MPG’s, this effecting emissions. This video is a run down on how to do it with the Ford prescribed fluid. For those that are current on viscosity studies and want to try other types, they are more then welcome to. I think what you’re recommending is 100% good for severe use and is probably more suited to my case. That’s my opinion but this video wasn’t meant to discuss optimal viscosities different then what Ford recommends. It gets confusing and into the weeds and the Ford prescribed viscosity will not damage anyone’s differentials or cause failures. I also plan on changing my diff fluid out regularly due to my wheeling habits. I’ll admit I’m also not a viscosity expert so I’m hesitant to speak about it in a video and the Ford option is safe. There are some great sources out there though that I’ve read or watched on the subject!

@@popo_patty All good.. YES, I agree for a demonstration of changing the fluids yes it’s good to use Ford Products.. That said, the manufacturer of the differentials recommends higher weight gear fluid. That’s a whole different conversation thanks to CarbonSteel..

@@richardhiatt9749100% and yea. I’m just not comfortable recommending one thing in a setting where different uses come into play. I’m agreeing with you personally though! Carbon Steels right up was really good.

Do you need a friction modifier?

Good question! You don’t as it’s just a locker. If it was a limited slip with clutches then you would.
