  • Today I am repairing a couple broken keys on my Roland FP-1 digital piano. The keys are designed to feel and react like a real piano. I show how this is mechanically done and walkthrough the repair of two broken keys. Hope you enjoy!

    Wow, thanks SO much! Two of my keys didn't spring back up at all. I tore apart my Roland keyboard and found two identical broken pieces like yours but couldn't find out what they were called at all. I image searched a picture I took of the side view (basically your thumbnail) and your video came up! The exact fix I needed!

    It is very interesting to see how plastic action looks like after some (probably) intensive use. I am wondering if it is an older PHA-4 type action. It is actually quite troubling to see that this is a toy action, in a sense.
    Thank you for the video.

    Ps. I never had any of my digital pianos longer than a year 😊. It is amazing to see that such an old digital piano would even be used anymore

    My Rodgers C-100 just developed a reproducible issue.
    In the left hand (bass clef), My wife, the musician in the family, will get a bizarre loud sound if she plays a (B, Em, another B chord) and adds any combination of Ab, G, or Gb notes.
    It only happens with those combinations.
    I think it's a failing IC board, but I thought I'd ask if anyone else has run into this problem.
    Thanks!

    👍Great video!! So clearly shown! My 94 yr old neighbor has a roland kr 4500 with 1 sticky key which does not bounce back. Your video provides just the right cure!!
    There is another problem with this keyboard.....
    It makes strange echoy sound when turned on as if the sustain paddle was depressed. It would stop if I turned off then on again. Can you help? I really would like to repair this for him as this is the only entertainment he has.

    I still own one of these and have owned several models with those hammer weights that crack/break like that. The action is great until they break. Seems like Roland should have been able to have made them from a material that doesn't crack so easily - even if you order new hammers they will arrive cracked from the factory. Good luck but I think you'll find the epoxy won't hold for long.

      @@DirectAutomate how do you get the lead weight inside the 3D printed part?

  • @richardgraham65

    Thanks, very interesting. Seems like those metal inserts where they attach to the plastic are covered in stress cracks. I bet this is the same action that is in my FP30X - this doesn't fill me with confidence!

    Hey. Great video, was very interesting.
    My yamaha synth doesnt play A of every octave. When I hold they key long (for about 5sec) it sounds off but the sound is very abrupt.
    Any ideas what could I look for? Or is it junk and not worth the hassle?

  • @mattdrat3087

    Surely one could design and have 3d printed in ABS a substitute for these? Or at least some kind of splint that would work?

    If two are broken and full of cracks, the rest are cracked and about to break as well. Better to replace the entire set, no?

  • @brianrichmond3777
    @brianrichmond3777 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Doesn't the expoxy change the key weight? Would superglue be ok to use, it wouldn't change the weight as much if at all.

    • @Jail-Left-Wing-Traitors
      @Jail-Left-Wing-Traitors 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      No.

    • @AndyPanda9
      @AndyPanda9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Epoxy or superglue - makes no difference. It will hold for awhile but then it will let go because of the type of plastic used. If you just play at home once in a while it'll hold up for awhile but for someone who plays hours per day, those weights will come loose again

      @@jelliot1014 LOL I just undid the screws around the outside. And it came off perfectly. BUT ... if you glue them use glue around the FAT part sparingly or it won't fit back inside. Roland gave VERY LITTLE clearance for that part to fit back in. I ended up glueing the pieces and the sanding the sides down a bit so they can fit back in.
