Hoppy has mentioned on several occasions that NB is a superb offensive play caller. I totally disagree. In fact, I think his play calling is a major factor for dismissing him. In addition, he was horrible developing talent. Good character & his players didn’t get in trouble. I give him high marks for that. I agree with Hoppy to abolish the term student athlete.

Brad is spot on! You don't need a fit. The game has changed. Winning is what matters. Neal's overall record at WVU is 37-35 but takeaway the victories from the FCS schools they played over the years and he is below .500 against FBS
I'd rather have a great A hole coach than a nice, sub par coach. Neal is a good man. Not a good coach. Never made adjustments in games, when opposing coaches did, which is why we lost so many leads.
My opinion Tony for what it is worth is that you need to find a coach who's biggest strenght is discipline and motivators of young men.More than the CEO aspect of it. Just say'n Tony. Your friend Jerry from Follansbee!
I was at the k-state game, the entire home crowd cheered for Nicco to replace Garrett, and neal to be fired, mountaineer nation made it's mind up a long time ago
Why I think Rich Rod is a very bad idea. One key point is Rich Rod's resume is a tale of two coaches. No question he succeeded at WVU in the old Big East. He is also doing well at Jacksonville State. However, Michigan was a complete flop with a record of 15-22 in 37 games played. He was only marginally successful in Arizona, going 43-35. Conclusion, he does not do well on the big stage at Power 5 schools.
Is it just me or do all three of these dudes seem depressed? Neal is a great man with great character, blah blah blah. Does fit matter anymore blah blah blah. It’s about wins and losses and that’s it. That’s the way of the world. These 3 guys seem to live in a bubble and content with what they have all of the time. WVU Football has been a DOOR MAT for the last six years and we have heard every excuse in the book as to why that is including from these 3 guys. It’s wins and losses baby. That’s it! You talk about being proud and having character and what West Virginia truly is. The last 6yrs is not what West Virginia truly is. We have lacked discipline, development, planning, paying attention, being accountable! We have lacked WINNING! We wish Neal Brown the best but he was here for about 3yrs too long! Go Mountaineers!
Tony's Spreads On Stats is one of the most interesting segments ever on 3 guys. The 2019 hiring "class" has to be one of the most unsuccessful hiring years in the history of college football. That is just fascinating! I'd love to have time to break down all those numbers combined just to see what the overall win/loss percentage is but this work thing is interfering with my football time.😆
Here's a thought for you, Chaz: DON'T LISTEN. 99% of the listeners of this pod enjoy the insights it offers immensely. So why don't you climb back under your rock and listen to podcasts about Marshall or Pitt? I don't want trolls like you chasing off these three talented guys from wanting to do the pod at all.
One more key point, it has been said that you can go back, but you cannot return. The power 5 five conferences have only gotten far more powerful with these conferences attracting all of the five-star recruits. They can even pay these players today. It goes back to one fundamental point. If you control the line of scrimmage, you very often control the game. These players are bigger, faster, and even smarter.
David Fryson is a very good friend of mine from back in high school. He is a excellent man who has the ability to modivate you. Maybe David needed to have spoke to them more but Neal needed to accept that responsibility himself. His teams lacked discipline.

I had huge hopes when he replaced Dana, and "trusted the climb" for the last 6 yrs, but unfortunately the climb stalled halfway up the mountain! I know he will be fine financially, and I think he may end up coaching and winning some games at UMass! I think his offense and coaching style will do him better at the lower level, and I believe he will win some games there! Good luck, Neal! I hope they can hire Kotelnicki because he will go get a top QB and build around him. I know some want a defensive minded guy but lets say you're recruiting a top defensive end in the portal, guarantee you he will want to know who the QB is and if we can win with him. You HAVE to have an elite QB or close to compete! All contenders have one, no way around it.
Neal needed out. No WVU fan wishes 🤒 on Neal. The man has no self awareness. Yes he did well with the schooling but come on, we don't care about that. As long as the grades are good to play. Just being honest.
Neal had a one way ticket out of WVU after collapsing the Pitt game. You can’t keep losing >90% win probability games the way a Neal Brown coached team did. At least Tony admitted that much. But the fact these guys think the decision was made at HALFTIME of the Texas Tech beat down tells you everything you need to know about these 3. I hope my new Athletic Director is not that aloof and short sighted to need to see that to justify his decision.

Brad is right. NB did have a good culture but they are hired to win games and generate revenue. More wins = more money. I do not care if they fit the Appalachian culture, I want a coach that will win. Winning cures all ills.
Fit "not mattering" isn't fair. Neal was given more years than most because of the culture he tried to establish, which everyone admits was nice. If he was a "sack of salt," he would have been out of here two years ago after the 4 win season.
"Re-tooling" and retaining Neal would have been utterly foolish and a massive waste of time and money. You would still have Neal running things. HE is the problem.

WVU needs a Buddy Ryan Defense identity and a Punch you in the mouth Offense....we have proven an ability to grow Offensive Lineman....we have recruited pretty good offensive skill players...what we failed to do was develop a defensive philosophy that manifested as aggressive.
