Look WVU has 12 games, 3 of them non-conf, 1 of which is always a FCS opponent typically. Look at this record: 2019 - 5-7 2020 - 6-4 2021 - 6-7 2022 - 5 -7 2023 - 9-4 (wow that was such a blip) 2024 - 6-6 Middle of the road? It's bland.
I wouldn't say that the Texas Tech game really was the final nail in the coffin, I think it just pounded it the rest of the way in. It was a culmination of 1,000 things that were never addressed. The pitt games, this last one then season before last. You have to be able to beat your rivals. The inability to develop players, the misplaced loyalty to a defensive coordinator that was never, ever successful in fielding any semblance of a pass coverage, never beating a top 25 team that was still ranked at the end of the season, a losing Big 12 record, failure to recognize portal talent.... The list goes on and on.
I was a student there 2008-2012, so I got to experience Pat White’s senior year and Geno Smith’s entire time there. I feel bad for the current students because the team was absolute electric my time there. Hopefully the next coach brings the old days back, but with the NIL and transfer portal I doubt we’ll ever be able to build another solid era of football. It’s near impossible for schools without serious money to build and keep players, they just get poached by the same 10-15 programs every year.
Vic was the key. Our defense was much more aggressive and balanced. Neal Brown may still be here if he hadn’t caved to politically correct mob and fired Vic. Lesley knew nothing about being a DC and failed to get better as time went along. It was past time for moving on from. Brown. He is a nice guy but we need a tiger in there instead of a lamb.
To be fair, I think NB did go to bat for Vic, but he was told he goes. Any allegations of racial tones or bullying is a no go at any university these days.
The Vic firing was the first indication to me that the climb had become a descent. I don’t know if Brown went to bat for him or not. I doubt it was his idea to fire him. He was probably given an ultimatum. In any event it was handled poorly and the team suffered through the rest of Brown’s tenure because of it.

Its embarrassing how Jed is still making excuses for Neil Brown. It’s Neal Brown’s fault Texas Tech wasn’t a good Match up for us. Neal Sucked at developing players and he was terrible at finding talent in the portal. The guy had 6 years to turn it around.
Can't believe no one is talking about why Neal Brown was fired....1 word ...... Defense....He fires Jordan Leslie an then 2 of last 3 games we give up 49 an 52 points an get flat out embarrassed. I truly wonder.... chad is now interim coach an will he let Koonz the interim Defense coordinator run the same awful 3 man D line zone style that no body else uses an we get blown out in a bowl game an probably by VA Tech an they keep the trophy for years till we meet in a bowl game again. I swear with all i have that does not happen though would not be surprised at all if it does...
For our best year under Neal to be 9-4 and Dana delivered multiple 10 win seasons its fair to say he didn't have what it takes to lead this team to where we can and should be. That's not to say Dana was a great coach, just saying even he was better than Neal
Ppl wanted him fired since I was a freshman (senior now ). Dude is a bad coach and the program was going nowhere Ppl arnt even excited going to the games ppl are super happy now that he’s fired
You guys do a fantastic job of covering the Big 12, including the WVU faithful. Thank you so much for all the wonderful work you put inn!
how do you figure the headline was WVU hasn't b een a bad program, but the mountaineer fans expect more? Yeah, we do expect more.

I said the same thing on my show today about being innovative. That’s why I like Andy Kotelnicki
Jed Drenning good Interview
Vic Koenig was a great def mind

365 sports good show im gonna follow
Jed, banged up or not, the KState game would be a loss. and you know that. Brown could not beat good teams, PERIOD.
4:15 -- defending the indefensible.
Also, classic Neil Brown era excuse. “We had to coach through covid and NIL.” Guess what Neil…..so did everyone else.
WVU was completely rebuilding every position. I think they mean the recruiting aspect was stalled hard when kids couldn't come see the new facilities.
Bill O Brien is a new one thats interested in the job

@ I guess talking about Jesus is totally unacceptable these days.

Brown fell on Lesley’s sword …
Should’ve never got rid of Koenig

lol you can tell Jed is so sad

Dana had a .59% winning percentage, NB had a .54% winning percentage. They both sucked
Ryan Day would be a great fit at WVU
WV has SUCKED under Neal Brownholio!
You guys didn’t watch the same team I did! Terrible performance every week! It was time for a change!
