@chompyangel Same, but cuz of my OCD (or Dandori if you will) in 2 in-game days. Probably about an hour haha. Don’t get me wrong, his pace is wholesome and refreshing compared to how I play, so I welcome it. (He’ll just be done by 2024 hahaha)
Bruh he no hesitation attacked mamuta after talking about the music, he didn't even get close enough to hear mamuta purr. Mamuta is so pleased when you just walk over to them and chill, just vibing until you attack unprovoked.
Also, pay attention to the little information on the top right of your map screen. I've seen quite a few people miss it somehow, but it always tells you how much of a floor has been cleared of treasure.
I happened to wake up from a nightmare seconds after this episode dropped, and while I disliked the circumstances, the fact that this was waiting for me was a major comfort!
Is it about how you're just a worthless screwup and how despite your best attempts, it will affect nothing Or is it about being hopelessly lost in a backroom while something indescribable is audibly chasing you
Honestly man, for how far you’ve managed to get in the game without losing a single Pikmin, you did a really good job. I also never would have noticed all of the creatures have a little motif when you get close to them. That’s such an impressively cute detail. The Anode Beetles Motif had me bobbing my head a bit. I hope it’s possible to listen to the motifs in the Piklopedia.
For future reference, when you pull up the radar map with "+" it will tell you how much you've completed on the current floor and the dungeon as a whole in the top right corner. Only treasures, castaways, and onions counts towards dungeon completion. Some treasures are buried and won't show up on the map so be sure to use Oatchi's nose and/or your treasure gauge to locate buried treasure.
For how observant you are of every single other detail of the game, I’m surprised how the crystal circles that mark a new base seems to be a blind spot. I think it’s because you’re used to seeing them at bases you already have so they become easy to filter out.
Been loving this LP it's just so fun seeing you enjoy and play the game. I also wanted to give you two tips (no spoilers included): 1: Increase Oatchis "buff" to level 3 asap you will know why after you do. 2: If you're gonna buy anything with your raw material please buy the Survey Drone it only costs 10 and it's so useful and you can explore the nice scenery of the areas even more with it. If you bought it before getting François you could have already seen the S.S.Dolphin (just as an example for its versatility). Have fun !
@@hhee4123 I think in terms of actual gameplay usage it's debatable (I used the map way more), but for someone like Scruffy who likes zooming in on the scenery and looking at details I think it's a must

You can make use of the freezing bomb that Ross offers to freeze water temporarily, that could help with that blue onion problem ^^ Also Oatchi's scent is particularly useful to find remaining treasures like buried ones
Scruffy if you don’t 100% complete a cave that has multiple sub levels you can return to the same sub level this also works with 100%ed caves but if you didn’t discover that sub level you can’t go to that sub level

loving the series so far, your attention to detail is insane!! small tip (if you haven't figured it out already): when in a cave, you can see the current cave and sublevel's progress % on the right-hand side of the map screen while you are actively in said cave or sublevel. useful for when you aren't sure if you're completely done in the area and are planning on moving ahead
Remember that you can command Oatchi to sniff out Treasure! Also the upgrade to have Oatchi gather Stray Pikmin isn’t actually too useful as you can get an item that basically does the same thing but better later
I was at the tail end of a second run of pikmin 4 where I was completing the game with as few pikmin as possible (the number is 8 for the curious!), but my hand got put in a cast right as I went up against the last challenge... I guess I can still turn to Scruffy to get my fix in the meantime!
shoutout to my fellow demo players who know how to get the blue onion with the pikmin cap at 40 o/ Scruffy's in general a better Pimin player than me but the fact that he had the option to go somewhere else and find more flarlic seems to have made him not even consider if there was a way to solve that puzzle with just the materials at his disposal. that said, thanks for this letsplay, Scruffy
Somebody else may have already pointed this out, but the map in a sub-level (and on the surface) has the percentage in the upper right corner while you are exploring! So you can check progress there if you want!
me, looking knowingly but in a loving and non-judgemental way at the completion percentage in the cave map screen: i also only noticed it because i have this horrible video game habit called Number Go Up
You can always use Oatchi to sniff out treasure and points of interest from the menu with Y! I found him useful when I revisited an area I hadn't 100% finished to gather a buried treasure and some additional Raw Materials (Which he will sniff out when everything else is gathered)
I appreciate how much time you take to take things in and enjoy things! But remember oatchi can swim now! You didn't need to get 30 ice pikmin out to freeze the water to get that flarlic at all lol
I love seeing how people play pikmin 4, to 100% or just wander in general. First playthrough i would always 100% overworld > caves > time trials > dandori battle cause i would want to 100% before any progression forced my hand
use oatchi to sniff out treasure because there can be buried treasure anywhere, or buy the treasure gauge since it helps just as it did in pikmin 1 and 2 also, i must say that your voices for these characters are priceless, they add so much to the series and can't wait for more
I just find it funny seeing people take a roundabout way to get the Blue Onion when I ended up getting it before the Yellow Onion by using 30 ice to freeze water, having 10 reds build the wall, fight the blowhog, and then i brought the ice up with me to get the Blue Onion to the water’s edge where I then threw them back in the water to freeze it and had the 10 reds and Oatchi with strength 10 to pull it to the main Onion.
I'm loving this series! here's a tip: ive found you never need more than around 30 raw materials in the field, because you can always find some from enemies and in digging holes (edit: so spend the rest on upgrades lol), plus the survey drone is extremely useful and only 10 raw material!!!
Hey Scruffy! With how long these videos are, I find myself spending a lot of time listening to the video more than watching them, while doing something else with the rest of my attention. But I realized just now, because I'm not watching super actively, there's probably a couple of editor's notes that I've missed. It would be great, I think, (and very in-line with the style of your channel) if you added a small sound effect whenever an editor's note pops up, so that myself and anyone who mostly listens along like me know when to look at the screen so as to not miss any of your commentary.
I bought Pikmin 4 because of you. Thank you. I also got about ~40% of the 3rd area done by the end of my first day playing. Thank you for my newest hyperfixation.

3:07 Ok, I want to explain a way to get the blue onion without blues. I did this in the demo and full game so follow these steps. 1. Get all flarlic and castaways 2. Get 30 ice pikmin 3. Max out oatchi buff and super buff as much as possible. 4. Use 30 ice to freeze lake and build climbing wall 5. Kill the blowhog and go grab oatchi 6. Ride oatchi and call all 30 ice to the ledge with the spicy spray berries 7. Throw 30 ice near the climbing wall and leave oatchi at base 8. Whistle 30 ice to the climbing wall and have them grab the onion AFTER the ice has melted 9. Wait for them to get stuck at ledge with spicy spray berries 10. Refreeze the lake and have oatchi grab the onion
I still think that leafling Olimar was just trying to save the castaways he finds considering that they're always unconscious with an unknown supply of life support.
Regarding Pikmin squad shape, the other reason for the reversion to the "classic" squad shape is most likely the addition of Oatchi. While Pikmin 3 required a streamlined shape to avoid getting caught on obstacles, any such obstacles in this game can be avoided by simply hopping on Oatchi 🐶
It's possible to get the Blue Onion in the Sun-Speckled Terrace with a 40 Pikmin, requiring the 30 Ice Pikmin and maxing Oatchi's Buff so he has the carry strength of 10 Pikmin. Freeze the water with the 30 Ice Pikmin, and have your 10 remaining build the climb wall. Once built, keep the 10 Pikmin off the ice, and take 20 Ice Pikmin to dig up and carry the Onion. Once they walk in circles on the lower ledge, toss the Ice Pikmin back in the water to freeze it. Ride Oatchi and bring the 10 Pikmin left behind and use them to grab the Onion.
To answer your query towards the end, yes, the crashed ship is always there from the beginning, even in the demo! If you buy the surveillance drone as soon as it's available, you can actually use it in your base and find it by flying as high as possible and moving towards where the ship is located at. To think, the S.S. Shepard crashed right next to it this whole time, and they never even found it until now...
The genuine joy in his voice throughout this series is so heartwarming. So often we see games gutted in some way, and we hear it in a playthrough, but here its nothing but the celebration of Pikmin, and you hear his joy as much as he hears the music.
