Daniel is unbelievable. I’ve never seen anyone embody a role so well. He looks completely different in ever single role he plays and that’s with little to no prosthetics or crazy makeup.

Very true. Of course there are exceptions, but I believe they just confirm the rule. And there is, in my view, a good reason for that humility. When you really love what you do, you remain curious and playful, like a child. And it doesn't matter who's watching. It doesn't even matter whether you succeed or not. You are at ease with yourself, and with the world, either way.
I realize how hard acting is when I see reenactors on crime or historical TV shows. These people auditioned and got the part, suggesting they were the best option. Light years from the talent level of these gentlemen. No shade, but impossible not to notice. A true artistic endeavor, not just anyone can pull off. Props.
You underestimate and ignore the value of writers. Those actors who reenact are doing a specific job, and the writing is not original or even expected to be good. It’s functional. The reason actors like DiCaprio and Day-Lewis get to BE good is because they get to work with good writers.
I was on one of those true crime shows a few years ago. So if you’re interested at all, here’s a quick example of the process- First, there was no audition. My agent called and told me I had a job offer. I was hired because I kind of resembled the guy I was playing. Some of us had acting experience but others were complete novices trying their best with minimal direction. Which leads to the second issue- there was no script. The producers had the interviews with the actual police investigators and family members, and we were there simply to dramatize events from their stories. All dialogue was improvised, which was an interesting challenge. I was playing a man who murdered a young woman and then called his brother to help him dispose of the body. The young woman was wonderful and working with her was a pleasure, but the gentleman playing my brother had no acting experience so the improv was rough. In the end it was me shouting orders at my brother and him silently doing what I told him to. In most shows of this type the actors don’t speak at all, they’re only shown recreating an event while being narrated by one of the interviews. At the time I thought this was simply to save money. Actors get paid a lot less if they have no lines. Now I know that’s part of it, but it also keeps production moving quickly because you don’t require as much effort or talent from the actors involved.

@@AveryMMartin When actors refer to "The Method" we're usually referring to the Stanislavski method of acting. Some actors will use the term "The Method" to refer to the technique originated by Lee Strasberg with the Group Theater, but a lot of Strasberg's methodology is rooted in Stanislavski's teachings; so there are, in fact, specific concepts in reference to "The Method." I agree with you that it's not really accurate to call Daniel Day-Lewis a method actor in the academic sense, but the colloquial layperson's modern use of the phrase "method actor" is actually pretty accurate in that people use it to refer to an actor who stays in character even when the camera stops rolling/they exit the stage. That is someone who truly loves his craft and the work that is produced from it. All that mattered in his decision-making process was "will my participation in this help the director make it as good as it could possibly be, or would someone else serve the film better?" He just wants great art to be produced, whether he's a part of it or not.
Mean Streets is criminally underrated. Johnny Boy is De Niro’s best role imo. So it doesn’t surprise me that’s the film that inspired the world’s greatest living actor, DDL, to become an actor.

It was the juxtaposition of going from a world famous actor to being a random, little known cobbler in italy. They're two jobs that couldn't have any LESS to do with each other, making it funny that he'd chose it given his prior experience.

Daniel Day-Lewis is an indisputably extremely skilled performer. But fucking hell does he seem like a nightmare of a person to actually deal with on a day to day basis.
It's a reasonable reaction. One of Hollywood's best actors building shoes is laughable. It would take him many years to be a good cobbler - and that's if he opened up shop and built them every day, day after day, year after year. DDL is not a cobbler - he's an actor.
Daniel does an amazing job at being the “bad” guy in this film. I wonder how much of that influenced DiCaprio’s performance in Django Unchained. I finally watched it last night and I can’t put into words how much I love Leo’s acting in Django!

I agree with you that it's not really accurate to call Daniel Day-Lewis a method actor in the academic sense, but the colloquial layperson's modern use of the phrase "method actor" is actually pretty accurate in that people use it to refer to an actor who stays in character even when the camera stops rolling/they exit the stage. The guy convinced the crew of "My Left Foot" to feed him and carry him around just because his character only had the use of his left foot.
Actors like Faniel Daniel day Lewis just can't retire there's no one to replace such talent
Daniel day Lewis is the greatest actor of the modern era
Christian Bale is a VERY close second.
Maybe 3rd to Pacino and deniro
@@jimmyjameson8705 DeNiro is the same guy in every movie with the same mannerisms. The movie casino, Pesci at least changed his accent DeNiro never even tried to
Love Daniel Day Lewis ❤ He has made soooo many great movies. Love them all
Daniel is the absolute definition of a class act and amazing talented actor
Best choice ever. Daniel rocked it.
Daniel Day-Lewis has a tremendous amount of humility 💕
I love Daniel
Goat actor. There are none better imo.
Fantastic video. I always appreciate being educated on such topics as a man.
In the name of the father my fave Daniel movie
Pity half of it wasn't true 😒
Good movie for sure
@@Simon-rm7piwhich bit isn't true?
@@fF-jb4gs Lots , too many to mention here , I suggest you Google it .
Great film. Would not have been the same
Daniel day Lewis is the greatest actor of all time. He doesn’t break his character while preparing for a movie. It’s a shame he never made more movies but you have to admire him for his private life.
A cobbler doesn't make shoes. They fix them. A cordwainer makes shoes.
oh 😮 I learned something new 🎉 cheers 🍻 ❤
I thought they made cords.
@@spanishpeaches2930he’s calledroy
Cobblers make shoes as well you’re high. Of course they do they have the equipment
@@morph-ONE Love how confident you are being wrong.
Daniel is on another level. He engenders so much emotion in me through his characters. Bill the Butcher scared and angered me, Daniel Plainview was so complex that I agreed, pitied, laughed with and hated him all at the same time. Lincoln.. he embodied a man who was grief stricken by the loss of a child and that grief was compounded by being “responsible” for thousands of others losing their children. I could go on and on. Greatest actor EVER!
*_Daniel day lewis is my favorite actor!!_*
_imho, the test of a true actor is how much Outside of themselves they can act! And he takes the cake!!_
🧐🤔😆👍🏻🖤👏🏻🤷🏼
#Outstanding!
PERFECT CHOICE!
IT REALLY COULDN’T HAVE BEEN ANYONE ELSE FOR THIS CHARACTER!! PERFECTION!! 💜💕
Daniel is on another level
Daniel truly puts 110% into every role he plays, and it shows. Certainly one of the greatest actors of our time.
Daniel Day Lewis is a legend
Daniel Day Lewis is one of the greatest actors of all time. Very versatile ❤❤❤ Leo seems very humbled to have had the opportunity to have had that experience...
Apparently when he shot last of the Mohicans he totally lived his character 24/7 in dress in the food he ate where he lived
And that was why his performance in that movie deserved an Oscar!!!!!
That is someone who truly loves his craft and the work that is produced from it. All that mattered in his decision-making process was "will my participation in this help the director make it as good as it could possibly be, or would someone else serve the film better?"
He just wants great art to be produced, whether he's a part of it or not.
"You see this knife?!? I'm gonna teach you to speak English with this knife"
He’ll NEVER EVER EVER do it but…if he did, Leo would make one helluva podcast host.
Great performances by Daniel & Leo. I could feel the raw death.
Mean Streets is criminally underrated. Johnny Boy is De Niro’s best role imo. So it doesn’t surprise me that’s the film that inspired the world’s greatest living actor, DDL, to become an actor.
He is just an amazing actor… that role was a chefs kiss
I'm glad for you!!!!!
he knows hes superb, but he is also humble and professional
Watch DDL in My Left Foot. Brilliant actor
Martin amd daniel are the 2 greatest at their craft. And Daniel got robbed from the oscar for that role. One of the greatest acting jobs ive ever seen. Gangs of new york is the movie. Amazing
“Shall we walk?” And they walk.
“Shall we sit?” And they sit.
Daniel Day-Lewis is the kind of person who when he speaks, you do.
Every single role he plays, it’s impossible to think of any other actor that could of played that role,
“He’s a cobbler”
And everyone died laughing.
???
Exactly, what funny about it? People have lost humility so much... I blame the out of control capitalism,.. people care only about status and money.
Bunch of idiots
Exactly my thoughts, I thought it was canned laughter at first. It wasn't a joke, it was an interesting story... nothing funny.
It was the juxtaposition of going from a world famous actor to being a random, little known cobbler in italy. They're two jobs that couldn't have any LESS to do with each other, making it funny that he'd chose it given his prior experience.
@@CreepyConnorthe laughs were over the top and sounded like they were mocking it and/ or not believing him. Its nothing to get in a frump about.
Daniel Day Lewis is a great actor he was great in the movie my Left foot
What a story.
What a story Mark
DDL is the man, incredible performance in this film he should have won an Oscar. But he’s incredibly humble and not full of himself same for Leo.
He was making shoes in italy......this is so unique❤
I can never get bored watching gangs of New York
A very good film.
Just two incredible actors talking in a park. ❤
Daniel Day Lewis completely stole the whole movie from d'caprio and everyone else.
No one came close to him
Cant imagine the pressure to produce acting gold like Lewis is expected to...yet he always delivers
Daniel day is a rare actor like Keanu some of the greatest actors in our lifetime. ❤✊🏾Leo too
Don't get me wrong I like Keanu but there's no way that he's anywhere near the same Stratosphere as Daniel Day Lewis
Amazing story. I love them both!
That doesn't make so much sense as they worked together before in age of innocence
The story does not bely that fact
DDL was second choice after DeNiro turned it down due to a scheduling conflict as he was just about to start work on The Good Shepherd
Such an honourable mention.
When you know your inspiration it hits different to go action.
Guys I just rhymed up there give me
That 3k likes. Let’s go ❤😂
Now go get your fookin cobbler box
When Leo said “shall we walk”, immediately I imagined Daniel saying it as Daniel Plainview from There Will Be Blood
Daniel Day-Lewis is an indisputably extremely skilled performer. But fucking hell does he seem like a nightmare of a person to actually deal with on a day to day basis.
You obviously haven't met or worked with Daniel. He's a gentle soul and a terrific human being.
They usually are.
There are actors and there is Daniel Day Lewis ……Truly one in a million exceptional talent
The people laughing at someone choosing to be a cobbler is why Hollywood is disliked.
It's a reasonable reaction. One of Hollywood's best actors building shoes is laughable. It would take him many years to be a good cobbler - and that's if he opened up shop and built them every day, day after day, year after year. DDL is not a cobbler - he's an actor.
Daniel day lewis is one of the best of the best in his craft
Love it!!! Doing this because of inspiration not motivation🎉
He was so good, so real, that I couldn’t watch his part. My husband has watched this movie at least 5 times.
Sick actor. One of the best to do it.
One of the all time best “villains” DDL nailed it!!
The greatest shoemaker turned actor of all-time
I'll never forget how I felt after watching There Will Be Blood. Amazing actor.
What an amazing opportunity for Leo to learn from Daniel Day Lewis.
Daniel Day Lewis is the greatest actor of all time.
Daniel Day-Lewis
Christian Bale
Two that are amazing
Daniel does an amazing job at being the “bad” guy in this film. I wonder how much of that influenced DiCaprio’s performance in Django Unchained. I finally watched it last night and I can’t put into words how much I love Leo’s acting in Django!
Leo DiCaprio has really matured in a sense that he now combines acting wuth business, a means to hone his craft. Negotiating with actors to do a role in collaboration with filmmaker scorcese is both honorable and fulfilling.
