What I would give for having a place in the woods to live there, I used to be an indoor person, never wanted to go out, used to come back from work, and keep wasting time, playing games, watching movies, and do other things that now I know were a waste of time. Until lockdowns were forced, I never felt I was missing anything, but then months on furlough... Almost 24 hours at home, only going out shopping...
It all had changed when I stumbled upon your channel... I guess if not you I would not dare even to try wild camping, I would be still sitting home unhappy with the situation... But then a miracle happened, and I began to actually love outdoors and I really did not like every single minute I was spending indoors... I decided to purchase camping gear and do my first wild camp, my very first wild camp was scary to the point I did not sleep all night (silly me there is nothing to be scared of in the UK) I just did not know that foxes or deer can make weird noises...
I did research when back at home and realised there is nothing to worry about or be scared of. I then traveled quite a lot to Surrey Hills, to kind of "celebrate" my first wild camping adventures, as you mentioned it in your previous videos... So yeah, last year I have done a lot of wild camping trips and I guess I cannot live without it... I contracted covid though and it was quite lengthy process for me to recover, I have suffered all sort of symptoms that keept me away from camping now for months. I am recovering though, and hoping to be back to wild camping soon.
You and your dad are so lucky to be able to live in the woods, I wish I had friends who own the woods or know someone kind to let me stay in one... I would have been so blessed.
All for now I can do is watch your videos sharing your long term/permanent camp stories/videos.

On our training exercises, I would share the smaller version of that tent with my tech partner, yours was known as the ten man, mine was a five man. The liner made all the difference in livability, especially in winter. I have loved all the footage you have shared over the time I have followed you, thank you for the tremendous amount of time you devote to making my life much more enjoyable. Power packs plus solar panels really seem to open up the world of forest living! You have your profession; people like I am 'need' to keep in touch with e-mail, TH-cam Bushcraft, and e-books. 'Fairy Lights' spread the cheer around the inside with 'no worries' about battery power and no worries about open flames.

Hi Becky. Just a few thoughts for you to consider. Prospector wall tents of canvas are used by prospectors/geologists and trappers in Canada year-round, and for many, many years. They are made of canvas, and are subjected to the weather much as your first tent was. What they learned was to elevate the tent off the ground so that moisture did not accumulate long enough to mold the walls, and they also erected a fly on the roof. The fly suffered from rain and weather and UV light, but it protected the tent from deterioration. The fly is replaced, but that is cheaper than buying a new tent. Most prospectors have built elevated floor platforms on permanent camps which prevents the canvas wall from having direct contact with the damp ground. If you move your location often, the tentmust be allowed to dry before being folded up. Moisture is the greatest enemy of canvas, as is UV light. Waterproofing the canvas is also a routine done every year to retain impermeability in the canvas, especially at the seams. Hope this help.

Your right those tents are very dark, cave like. Great for sleeping in, but hard to see ones bushcraft collection. Solution is build your own. Canvas tent or Tarp any color, Stove Jack Recipe...Welding Blanket, Mix Mineral Spirits with High Heat Silicone for caulking fire-places, apply mix to welding blanket both sides, cut stove pipe diameter and use JB Gasket Maker to finish exit hole for pipes. Take to awning/canvas/sail makers to sew jack into tent or tarp. Fun weekend project and will work with old tent flys, tarps, canvas with crapped out stove jacks. So far i have three home-made and use all year round. Sorry, to hear about your Fairy Lights.....Cheers!!

  • @jamesellsworth9673

Suburban homeowners can find that woodrats and mice come with the property. Poison baits are made that fit into T-shaped pipe traps. Rodents are curious about holes, especially along perimeters, and search them seriously. Baits are held in place so other species (like birds) don't get to the bait. Soon enough, there are fewer and fewer rodents to eat your electronics and nest in your fabrics.

I notice your archery target. I don’t know if you can have a compound bow by law there. The good thing about the US is you can have more effective weapons in case people come out of the towns in desperation. But they all have guns too. But even in a place where you’re not allowed to be armed, lots of people still are and you just can’t compete with them.
