I have one and it works great! I run mine on diesel and it works prefect. I don't have a smell with diesel as I did with Kerosene and diesel gives off more BTUs than kerosene. It takes about 15 minutes to heat my 3 stall shop up to 65 -70 degrees than the overhead electric takes over from there. This model isn't as loud as others I've owned and it reasonably priced ($169 at Menards right now)
I run mine on home heating oil just filled both my tanks at 285 a gallon. Had a pump for years lying around that just happened to thread perfectly on top of my oil tank so when I need fuel just go in the basement and pump 5 gallons and go back out to the garage.
I have that same heater and this will be the fourth year of operation. Just make sure and do an annual cleaning of the fuel jet and it will give years of service. Warms up my 900SF garage in minutes. I can warm it up, shut the unit down and it stays good for quite a while.
Not only does it warm you up Eric but it makes a good camp stove. Lol. I'd be making some hot dogs and marshmallows. Staying warm is what it's all about this time of year no doubt. It's getting Mighty chilly here in Arkansas too.
The heater that I have is a propane heater- They each have their benefits. The torpedo is quick to heat up the area, but the gas heater is good to maintain it.
any problems with moisture? I've heard they output one hell of a lot of water along with the heat. I want to try one but don't want to rust out all my hand tools!
I recently purchased a new torpedo heater. Is it normal for it to smell so much in the beginning? If so, how long does it last before it stops smelling?
Yup! It's a downside to these flame throwers. They heat large areas fast, but due to the fact that they are unvented, they do tend to stink some when they are cold started.
Run Jet A or kerosene. It’s more refined than diesel and should create less fumes. #1 diesel will work as well and won’t put off the smell that #2 diesel will.
I'm not a big fan of a torpedo heater but they do heat up quick. When I had one I would use k1 kerosene and lantern additive just to cut the stink out. They are stinky.
@@FarpointRestorationsAndRepairs I agree but over the years I've upgraded in insulated my garages and garage doors and put in hang up electric heaters. They work great.
@FarpointRestorationsAndRepairs yeah it's brand new as well, only used it a few times, they say there's an adjustment screw to set how it burns the fuel I'll have to set it better
I only run it for a short time to warm up the air- The garage is far from being air tight, so there is plenty of fresh air coming in. I also do have a CO detector close to where I use it. You can never be too careful
They burn extremely clean. When they first fire up you'll get a black puff and that it mine is rated 98% efficient. Your biggest danger is lack of oxygen if your building is drafty you'll have no issues I'm still alive.
Temperatures have been slowly going down here in New England too. 34 this morning . Good job, Jen for finding this. Stay safe, well and warm!
you as well, although right now it is almost 60- next week highs in the 30's

That is good to know. diesel is way cheaper that kerosene here- Right now kerosene is $7/gallon

I remember my dad had one in the garage. He used it with the stove. I was always amazed when he fired that jet engine up lol.
I can hear this when it is on outside of the garage, I can live with the noise for the heat it puts out.
Me and my friends would play hackysack and drink n smoke in my buddys garage. We were always choking on fumes from the kerosene heater lol
They do make your eyes water pretty bad, but man they heat the place up in a hurry!

It sure does get the shop up to temp!
Good wall insulation helps, too! An unnecessary word of warning, be careful with flammable materials around any heater.
I really want to insulate the roof, but haven't had the time to get it done.

🤣 guilty as charged
Ha! Great idea!!
Nice addition to the shop 😎
it really is- Not a huge fan of the cold
It beats cutting wood. Ironman in Alabama 73s
Sadly it's so freaking cold here somedays, I get to run both the jet heater, and the woodstove just to keep my hands from freezing.
Do you prefer this vs electric garage heaters? I’m undecided!
The heater that I have is a propane heater- They each have their benefits. The torpedo is quick to heat up the area, but the gas heater is good to maintain it.
Im about to buy one of these for my garage this winter. Do i have to worry about it gelling up when im not using it? Like when im done for the night.
Coldest it got here was -16f and I had no issues with it that day.
Just make sure what you get is a winter blend or mix in some gasoline to thin it out.
Real world demonstration.
We can see your breath 🌬️.
Oh boy, it is COLD here!

No. However, It's so dry here in the winter that it may be putting out some water and I just don't notice.
Does it have a low medium and high or just straight thermostat on/off when it reaches temp?
I has a thermostat to help control it- I usually set mine as high as it will go to help heat the garage when I first turn it on

Dumb question, but why is there a power cord if it runs on kerosene?
It’s gotta get spark to ignite
@@jeffreyschaaf7342 …thank you so much!
It also powers the fan that you hear (That jet engine sound).
Great video
Thanks for the visit

I will take the stink to have a warm(ish) garage. It did a pretty good job the last week when it was stupid cold

I always get dizzy when i use mine lol
Something must be wrong! I'd get it checked if it's sucking that much O2 out of the air.

Would you recommend this to be used inside a home or travel trailer?
I used one just like it in my 1976 singlewide. it works, but its LOUD, and it will smell like diesel in there.
@@FarpointRestorationsAndRepairs Thanks!
Does anyone know why they do not have a 6' cord on these heaters?
sometimes the power draw is high where it might over heat the cord?
Probably a safety regulation so if you walk by and get tripped the unit will unplug and not tip over.
Do you have a link?
not on this one, got it at Lowes last year
Aren’t you getting carbon monoxide poisoning using that in a garage?
There is a warning of this in the manual.
