I've been running the Mugen 5 (Rev A) for a few years now in my old rig with an i5 7600k 4.6 all core in a Define Nano S (fairly meh airflow), it's a really great cooler for the price and size. What really still blows me away most is the noise levels. My new rig has an AIO (NZXT X63) and let me tell you, i would love to get those old noise levels of the Mugen back. It never really ran much faster then 1000 RPM while beeing pretty much non-audible, even with the all core OC, which was just baffling to me. Scythe has been one of my go-to companies for own rigs (Mugen 5 on the i5, Katana 5 on an Phenom II years ago) and also as a recommendation for friends and family. This and the Fuma 2 are arguable some of the best "overall packages" on the market (price, cooling, noise levels). It's never the best in any category, but as an overall package, i'm hardpressed to recommend anything else most of the time.

@@rensquared24 Yes. you can mount front and back fan on the Mugen. The clip should be included, the fan obviously not. On mini-ITX you likely can't due to dimensions (on my mini-ITX system - Define nano S - the case-exhaust fan however is perfectly behind and very close to the fins, so it acts as a secondary fan, i suspect that's the source of my great temps).

In the little part of the world I come from the Scythe Mugen 5 PCGH edition is known to be the best bang for the buck cpu air cooler. I have been pushing this cooler in many comments on TH-cam because this is such a good cooler any comparison of air coolers should include it but for some reason nobody does it (mostly marketing I am guessing, Scythe doesn't seem to give a f*** about marketing).
I think the PCGH edition is better, it comes with two fans with lower max rpm. Also, I installed mine the other way around, I don't know it makes a difference but in my head it makes more sense to give the cooler some more breathing room, especially with two fans.

The gripe I've had with it is that the install was difficult for me at first, one side would pop out, I'd fell like there was too much pressure on the motherboard if I tried to tighten one side to then tighten the other side of the cooler. After 2-3 times the installation was easier as I got to understand how it worked better. I used a Sycthe cooler and fans years ago for a build and they were indeed nice coolers & fan back then. My latest build I had read good reviews of the Mugan cooler and considered it before finding a lightly used Noctua NH-12A on eBay at a really good price. I'd become a real fan of Noctua over the last decade and just couldn't give it up, but I wouldn't hesitate recommending the Sycthe to anyone.

I originally was going to get that CPU cooler but wanted an all black build so I settled with the Cooler Master Hyper 212 RGB Black Edition for $38 USD. If the Mugen 5 was all black then it would've been purchased immediately. Hope their next one will be. 🖤

I think even the Scythe Ninja 5 is probably the best air cooler you can get for the price granted that it can fit in your case (maybe do a review on it?). Got the Ninja 5 over the Mugen after the pump in my AIO died and I doubt I'll ever go back to liquid cooled unless I'm doing a custom loop. The performance from these Scythe coolers are REMARKABLE especially when you compare other coolers in that price range. I'd switch out the fans for higher RPM ones though (even though the 800rpm ones that come with them are just fine).

Been running the Mugen 5 Rev.B on a Ryzen 5 3600 for a year now and it's been a fine cooler. With the included fan pushing and a thin Scythe fan pulling the thing is inaudible while controlling the temps to 65C under 100% load. Using the included thermal paste and a couple other brands I had lying around the Ryzen would quickly spike up higher than it seemed like it should then come right back down...but that's really just a characteristic of how the temp sensors read in CPUID. In Ryzen Master the temps read lower without the quick spikes so it's looking at a different sensor or maybe averaging them? Anyway...I ended up using Thermal Grizzly Conductonaut liquid metal and it really did work a treat...the spiking temps on CPUID didn't go nearly as high and overall the CPU is well cooled even at a silent fan level. Remember that this CPU even overclocked is about 75-80 watts so only a medium heat level for a cooler and this Mugen 5 might not be enough if you have a 150+ watt burner under it...though with some high performance (read noisy) fans it surely would do better than with the silent versions I have on it now. But compared to the stock AMD cooler supplied with the R5-3600 the Mugen is easily 20C cooler and quieter for a very affordable and quality cooler.

I have been running an old Ninja for a while now, when the next computer upgrade is coming will stick with the brand. The massive heatsink, low spinning fan is a great combo. My fan actually died about 6 years in and it took a while to notice in temps. In a well ventilated case, unless you're pounding it 100% constantly, this type of solution will be a great option for people who just game casually or use the computer for nothing too intense. Let's face it, most of us don't render video 90% of the time...

Yes they are! I'm using the Mugen ARGB with my 3700X. It stays cool and extremely quite. Always boost to max (or above) rated speeds due to thermal limits not being reached.
The ARGB version comes with two fans (push/pull), the same heatsink here as sell as a ARGB cover over the heatsink. The two fans help with temps while still quite.
Fuma is Scythes higher end air cooler. Designed for temps over noise.

Guys the fan that comes with the mugen 5 spins counter clockwise while most fans out there spin clockwise. That creates turbulence i guess and makes the cooler less efficient, after i replaced my rear fan with a kaze flex 120 (the same pwm 1200 rpm fan that is included with the cooler) i saw my temps drop by 2 degrees. These fans are low static pressure but are very silent as greg says so they make for good case fans too and they are quite cheap. You can hardly hear them even at 1200 rpm.

  •  4 ปีที่แล้ว

Has been out of stock everywhere except from resellers that jacked the price to $144.00 at one point, they came back in stock 4 days ago or so.. I've bought a few of them but added some extra 120mm case fans (1 each) on the back side of the cooler because the stock fan only goes up to around 825 RPMs, I have 120mm fans laying around about every corner of my shop.. I don't use air cooling anymore on any of my personal systems, these go on other people's systems and family.. They are meant to be almost silent and they are, but if you want to run XMP or OC on an Intel system you'll want to add a NON stock fan to it or replace the stock fan and use better/higher RPM fans.. BUT with that said I installed it on I5-9600Ks and they will work just fine and with an extra 1200mm higher RPM fan added you can indeed run an I5-9600K with 320oomhz RAM with XMP profile 1 enabled with zero issues.

I picked, in my hopefully soon to be replaced build from 2011, the Scythe SCMG-2100 as my cooler, aside from a fan replacement or two it's served me well but holy hell was it a pain in the ass to install back then along with the size of it taking up so much space in my case which made installing RAM harder than it needed to be.
