    I didn't like your method, I didn't agree with your method, I thought you had it all wrong. .... but then came the cooked pancakes and as an avid, learned pancake enthusiast, I was shocked. They are perfect. Smooth, shiny, good circle shapes and fluffy like you promised. I am impressed. ♡♡

    I am a mom of 5 and my kids are pancake addicts. I have used different brands of pancakes and even tried some recipes i came across on you tube and i'm just so glad i stumbled upon your video and saw it being prepared and cooked in real time and pretty believable how you've achieved those wonderful pancakes! I made them myself and got the same result!! Thanks to you I'm a new subscriber :) :)

    Here is the Recipe: Jump to the detailed recipe. (or, keep reading for the gist of it) -

  • @Somethingedible

    Absolutely! If you don't wanna lose that buttermilk flavor, you can also substitute a 50/50 mix of plain yogurt and milk, or even sour up your milk with a couple teaspoons of lemon juice. If you go the lemon juce route, let the "lemon milk" sit out on the counter for about 20 mintes before using.

      If you buy refrigerated eggs from the supermarket, you can set them on your counter and open the carton, leave them for a couple of hours until room temp and there is no condensation on the eggs. Then take some food grade mineral oil that you can purchase at a pharmacy or hardware store like Lowes, and rub a THIN coat of the oil on the eggs. You will be cable to store them on your kitchen counter for weeks with out going bad. I bought an actual egg collecting basket and lined it with a folded kitchen towel to hold my eggs on the kitchen counter. It looks nice.

    Combining your wet and dry ingredients and allowing the batter to sit for about 10 minutes will allow the gluten to relax a bit, resulting in a better final product.

    Good question! I heat my honey before serving by leaving the container in a hot (not boiling) water bath for about 10 minutes or so (glass is best; but plastic will work if the water's not super hot). You'll be surprised at how fast the honey pours with just a little gentle heat applied!

      +Nikki Wolf For whole wheat pancakes, I never go above 375F (350F may even be enough). If you swap out the whole wheat for all white flour, 375-400F is where you wanna be. Enjoy those pancakes! :)

    In this case, you do.
    In recipes where baking powder and soda are required, it's usually about hitting the perfect balance of leavening and pH (acid vs. base) without leaving any funky tastes behind in the final product.

  • @FairiesandGnomes
    @FairiesandGnomes 11 ปีที่แล้ว

    OK, I didn't have any honey so I substituted 1 tsp Smuckers Caramel Sundae Syrup and 1 tsp sugar. Couldn't find my griddle so used my waffle iron. Didn't have any White/Wheat flour so ground my own wheat berries. Even with all these substitutions it produced some really good panc--waffles. The kids loved them. Thanks for this tasty and easy recipe.

  • @Somethingedible
    @Somethingedible  11 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    If you've only got a frying pan, you can still do up some hotcakes. Nonstick is best here- bring it up to around 190C (~375F) over medium heat. If you don't have a nonstick skillet, be sure to add a small pat of butter to the pan right before you add the batter. It won't quite be the same, but it'll totally be serviceable. Good luck with your hotcakes!

    The pancakes look mighty fine , I need to know our buttermilk in Oz is way too expensive , why ??? well I have no idea , so if I were to use yoghurt as its thicker do you still use the same amount as the buttermilk or less, also do you use greek yoghurt or just any regular plain yoghurt , dying to try this recipe as ive always used packet mix ...thankyou for the easy to follow video .....Pauline

    • @Somethingedible
      @Somethingedible  11 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Pauline - The most common substitute for buttermilk is to stir a little lemon juice into milk and let it sour for 15 minutes or so. What I like to do however is go 50/50 plain lowfat yogurt plus milk with a 15 minute rest. I've done it a few times and my flapjacks always turn out great. Good question! :)

    Hmmm... Baking soda is pretty ubquitous, so thats a problem I've never had. It can also known as "bread soda, cooking soda, and bicarbonate of soda" and if you can't find it near the flour and sugar, I'd check the housekeeping aisle or the pharmacy. B.p. is basically b.s. packaged with a weak acid (cream of tartar), and the amount you'd have to add to compensate might add a metallic taste to your griddle cakes. I'd say your best bet is to ask a clerk at the store where they hid the stuff!

    • @Somethingedible
      @Somethingedible  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      It really depends on how sweet you like your pancakes and what you're topping them with. I've swapped out honey for vanilla bean-spiked sugar, so maybe something like that is an option. Good luck!

      Got mine on Amazon. "Norpro Honey Syrup Dispenser" (amzn.to/19czMeS). Works well if you keep it clean and change the water after you use it. I usually warm the water up in the well and let the honey heat up about 15 mins before I know I'm gonna use it. Admittedly, refills are a little tricky; but mess is kept to a minimum!
