I've figured that there was something up with Pimp My Ride bcuz I didn't believe that it would take them to restore rundown cars into customized cars within a short amount of time which it usually takes to restore a rundown car into a customized car is about a year or two maybe more depending of the size of the car if you take your time and with a whole lot of money to put into the car?
If you're doing it on your own with a couple of friends as a hobby then sure it could take that long but with a budget, shop and crew you could manage it pretty quick. Though the fact they cut corners isn't surprising either
the issue with Pimp My Ride was mainly the fact that they added all this luxury nonsense (which a lot of the time it was controlled by a guy off camera w/ a laptop, and not even real), but on top of that, they ignored actual mechanical problems the vehicles had. So if you got on to pimp my ride and your engine was bad, you might come back w/ the same car with a dvd player and a soda making machine in the back or w/e, but the engine will still be bad.
Pimp My Ride always just made the most impractical cars. "Oh I have a family of 4 but now my car only holds 2 people and I can't use it for anything... Thaaaanks"

Moral and ethical dilemmas of the show aside, Pimp My Ride is such a nostalgia trip for me, being that I was born in 95. All those old MTV and VH1 shoes were so damn good, the peak of braindead cable television. Watching this video made me want to compile a list a bunch of those old shows I grew up watching, pirate them, and go on a nostalgia bender watching them all again. Pimp My Ride, Jackass, Viva La Bam, Wild Boys, Flavor of Love, Punk’d, Cribs, Room Raiders, Rob and Big, Next, Parental Control, Date My Mom, Hogan Knows Best, Celebrity Paranormal Project, etc… damn, it might’ve all been brain-mush, but at least it was fun. Today the garbage that replaced these shows isn’t even fun.
i kid you not, i tried to buy this back in august. it popped up for sale on an auction site, i won it for $1,355, but the people selling it were hella shady. never returned my calls, never responded to emails, had multiple excuses as to why they couldn’t get me the car shipped down to me, etc. it was always “oh we’re on vacation” or “oh we’re not open this week”. always something like that. they even changed their location twice....one moment they were in central vermont, and another they were in northern michigan. eventually, they gave me their “official” address-which came back to an impound lot behind a mexican restaurant. by the time october rolled around, i was tired of it. i threatened to sue the people selling it and well yeah long story short i got my $1,355 back with no pimp my ride caravan. i’m very happy that you got it, though. i’m not sure what i would’ve done with it once i got it. i know you’re gonna make this thing absolutely amazing. also, a side note: those pictures in the craigslist ad were the same ones used in the auction ad...
The Pep-Boys in the old town I grew up in is going away and turning into an Advanced Auto Parts... Strange how much a town changes in a little less than 10 years...
Not really, cause a lot of the parts like filters etc probably have engines that still used that even 7-8 years later. Some those engines get used for a long time with very little changes to a lot of parts on them since its cheaper if its already being made. Look at engines like chevy v8 305, yea internals like pistons and stuff changed but a lot of things i would bet haven't changed much.
I remember one Pimp My Ride had like a smoothie station in the back, I totally thought this was that van at first. Wrong, this van reminds me of a mom obsessed with Polly Pocket or something 😂😂 if y'all can find more old Pimp My Ride cars, please fix them up this is SO entertaining!
I remember that they got a Hearse, where they have installed a BBQ in the shape of a coffin in the "truck". It still is cool to look at it again, but it is sad that they abadon these cars.
Even if everything was put in perfectly, it still looks like the back seat would be a death trap if it got into an accident. There'd be glass shards and beads everywhere from the various screen and lasers, rescue workers wouldn't be able to get into the back without forcing the doors open or breaking down either that pseudo-wall or the sound system from the trunk, all of which would be a lot of wasted work when they see the denim seats and inevitably decide to immediately board up all the entrances and torch the van so that its inhabitants can explain themselves to God.
The people that got their cars pimped have no idea what maintenance means. That is the main reason why all the cars just rotted away or ended up in a yard or backyard somewhere. Even if they had a new car, they would never change the oil unless they got a notice from the dealer.
Most of the cars that were on the show,, were stripped of most aftermarket parts they installed after the taping of the episode...and they never did any real engine upgrades.. if any at all!
I always thought that these cars would get stolen, stripped of anything worthwhile, and then burned at some isolated spot. Never thought of seeing one being abandoned though.
A lot of the owners couldn't afford the insurance nor the batteries to keep everything going and went back to being vibrant painted clunkers. Especially when they would put the crazy DJ table, sound systems and margarita mixers or whatever tf all they did. That takes a lot of juice and them batteries are expensive. Many just couldn't afford. Just like the extreme home show many couldn't afford the property taxes and utility bills. Plus if like the time when Oprah gave away buncha cars many couldn't afford the taxes. There's a price to all this TV stuff. From my understanding Price is Right with Drew Carey is best bet because I remember reading being told from couple folk he will pay personally the taxes so people do not have to give up their prizes
@@mightymorphingmemory6178, hmm, taxes never crossed my mind, but the cost of constantly replacing batteries to run all those gadgets should have though. But yeah, if you can’t even afford to keep your car in working order, what chance do you have of a customised one?

I'm surprised the original owner didn't sell the speaker system and monitors when they were still new
Back when i watched the show i used to look at the cars brought in and thought "These people must be buying $300 cars just to get them tuned up a bit so that they can sell them with a profit". Those cars were "uninhabitable" with all the garbage inside and were in terrible condition, i didn't think they could have been daily drives. I've figured that there was something up with Pimp My Ride bcuz I didn't believe that it would take them to restore rundown cars into customized cars within a short amount of time which it usually takes to restore a rundown car into a customized car is about a year or two maybe more depending of the size of the car
if you take your time and with a whole lot of money to put into the car?
If you're doing it on your own with a couple of friends as a hobby then sure it could take that long but with a budget, shop and crew you could manage it pretty quick. Though the fact they cut corners isn't surprising either
They made it seem like it was done very quickly for the show but contestants have stated that they waited for months after turning their car in
the issue with Pimp My Ride was mainly the fact that they added all this luxury nonsense (which a lot of the time it was controlled by a guy off camera w/ a laptop, and not even real), but on top of that, they ignored actual mechanical problems the vehicles had. So if you got on to pimp my ride and your engine was bad, you might come back w/ the same car with a dvd player and a soda making machine in the back or w/e, but the engine will still be bad.

Plus if like the time when Oprah gave away buncha cars many couldn't afford the taxes. There's a price to all this TV stuff.
