How To Grow Hale's Best Cantaloupe - seed to harvest Thanks for watching. If you found the video helpful, you can buy me a coffee here: www.buymeacoff...
So thank you for this video. I have just plucked the seeds from a store bought cantaloupe. There are many differences in the Google searches I've conducted which is how I found you! My question i love in a ski resort area so we have more winter than summer. Following the one rule all have said which is to plant 3 to 4 weeks before the last area frost. Because our last frost is mid July I won't have the time to grow. I am going to try to grow cantaloupe from my home using the summer sun in summer months and warm locations away from cooling areas. I'll be using both sunlight and grow light. My question is if I opt to do my plan, can I plant it now? August 10th 2024 with outdoor temps getting a high of about 97 to 100 f and a low of 60's? Or is it imperative that I wait until next year and hope for early spring? Also as for the seeds some people say I have to clean, rinse, thoroughly dry, and even freez if they're from store bought cantaloupe. Also I also was told if the seeds float they're bad while those that sink are goo to plant. All of them are floating. Is this true too?
100 degrees is a little too hot for the blossoms to turn into fruit. If you set up a little growing area inside, with a grow light... plant away! You need to clean and rinse, but only have to thoroughly dry if planning to store the seeds. If they float... they're not good. Only the ones that sink are good. The ones that float are empty inside.
I grew huge hales last year. So good I’m starting the seeds from them this year and they are already coming up in the garden. I started them outside in my raised beds
You explained it really well! This is the only video that I understood, straight to the point! I started growing melon three weeks ago and my melon thriving at the moment. Thank you! ❤
It felt like you were talking to 6th graders. Not making fun here. It helped me, 😆 but you did say that you could trim off the vine, kinda like a watermelon?
I just cant believe how they have access to just such a large variety of fruits , trees and plants. Feels like they live in paradise. Fresh produce right on their door step , surrounded by nature and enjoyed together in a close knit family and community! All the money in the world cant buy what they have.
The money could create it, but could not create the right attitude. Good communities were left back in the '50's,... or the 1940's. I hope that more like there's wll arise.
@@acex8124ahhh, “good communities in the 50s and 40s.” How good were the communities in the 20s? Or how about the 1840s? Sounds like someone probably enjoyed the all white neighborhoods a little too much while growing up 😂
Great video, especially the pollination part! That was super helpful to see! I'm using the same germination method you did, but mine aren't germinating. Despite being kept warm and moist I have 0/6 sprouted after at least a week. Are they duds (brand new seeds) or should I wait longer? I need to hurry and get these growing because our summer season is shorter so I'm not sure what to do. 😓 (Hoping someone will see this...)
I've some seeds that are super stubborn, and just don't sprout as quickly. Give them another week. Then, if you DO have to start new ones, soak them overnight first. If they sink by morning, the seed is good. If they're floating... they're duds. Also... make sure you're not "steaming" your seeds in the baggie... i.e. not TOO warm. That'll take them longer to sprout, as well, and if it's super too warm, they might not sprout at all. Hope this helps.
@@BestBudsGardeningGreetings! Thank you for your informative channel! When saving the seeds, is it better to leave some of the casing on, or clean them (gently in your mouth)? Also, do the seeds do best when you use them right away, or do they do fine the next year or years? Thank you!
@@leilanielizabethhall Clean them well, dry them on a coffee filter for a couple of weeks, then store in a cool, dry place. The seeds should be viable for about 4 years.
Your voice is so soothing, also thank you for the info!! It was great!!
Can you grow them in clay soil?
I use seed raising mix
Put them in little pots.

Thks for an easy to understand video! I didn't know that there were 2 different flowers on the plant.
Do you hang them up or let them on the ground?
كم حجم الوعاء الذي زرعت فيه؟
It's ripening off the vine it's decaying. I do like soft fruit though!
Don’t plant too many in one pot . 5 gallon to one

👍 very informative. Subbed also
Their perfectly ripe when the vine comes off the melon with just a little wiggle..

I don't remember saying that, and don't remember trimming my vine. That being said, I don't know why you couldn't.
I'm crossing with the Galia melon and the Spanish melon

This video has provided me encouragement to save seeds and to plant. I love details. You have provided important ones. Thank you.
Glad it was helpful!

You have a very bright attitude! But, I don't understand who you are talking about.

Love how you said the seeds "hatched". I`m worried about that third seed though!
LOL. I heard he did very well at a friend's house.
