Went on this 7 times yesterday...4 at the very start and 3 at the end...We actually got on the last ride of the day in the dark on the front row! - there was a thunderstorm and lightning going off all around...it was quite a surreal experience. Awesome ride and joint top with Mako in my favourite coaster list.

easily man, Port Aventura is lately getting it's deserved hype by theme parks enthusiast but it's probably one of the most underrated parks ever, the visit to Spain just to go there is totally worth it.

Shambala is still my all time favourite ride. I have done almost all big Europeanen parks and a few in America, but I have never experienced something like Shambala again. Some came close (like Fury, Wildfire,...) but non was able to really take on the fight with Shambala!! For me it’s just on another level I guess.

I'm Thomas the 70 year old who still loves coasters( My daughter arranged with you through a certain web site to send me birthday wishes back in December and as I don' t do social media this was the only way to thank you, brilliant). Been booked for a year to go to Port Aventura in May but doesn't look promising because of the pandemic although I was there in 2019 and just loved Shambhala. lost count after the 9th ride. Thanks again and Stay Safe.

I have only ridden 2 B&M Hypers, Raging Bull and Diamondback. Let me say, I was very impressed with Diamondback as the flouter airtime was way stronger than I thought. I hope it's just as strong on Shambala.

  • @richb5248
    @richb5248 3 ปีที่แล้ว

Couldn’t agree more Shaun. It’s a fantastic coaster. If you fly to/from Reus airport you can actually see Shambala as you get on/off the plane. I think the airport is about12 miles from Portaventura so it gives an idea just how tall it is and certainly builds the excitement of what’s to come. Went in 2012, 2015 & 2019. We plan to go again this year if possible. Just wanted to add to your review for those who haven’t been on it. There are video cameras in front of each seat so you can buy the DVD or download of your experience. Never seen myself looking so wide eyed on the first drop. And defo worth paying a bit extra for the fast pass unless you like spending up-to 2 hours in a very sweaty queue.

  • @Fenrir6543

This coaster is rather incredible. I am someone who prefers more intense rides with more laterals and more powerful forces, That being said, this coaster is my number 2 for a very valid reason. Night rides on this coaster are some of my favourite memories on a coaster, There's one major con for it - the queue. I've waited up to 2 hours for my first ride in that hellish queue, which really made me sour towards it on my first ride, but after some shorter queues and single rider rides, I don't think it ruins my opinions on it. Watching this just makes me want to return to this park, and ride this incredible coaster.

I rode Shambhala in 2019! I only got around 7 rides on it but it’s 100% my favourite roller coaster! It was the tallest one i’d done at the time (then i went and did Red Force, also an awesome ride!) and it really helped me challenge myself with coasters and get on things that terrified me at first. The airtime on it is absolutely incredible, especially with a bit of a loose restraint! I really hope to get back to PortAventura as soon as I can and get back on it. Loved the video, I completely agree with everything you said

Perfectly described review of a much-loved coaster of mine as well. Happiness is Shambhala on a breezy sunny day in Spain, the Nightrider at Halloween was amazing too. Never felt so vulnerable on a ride as on those seats but that adds to the thrill and joy of it!

It's an amazing coaster, we visited back in 2015 the week after the Spanish school kids went back to school. Queues? None, walk on, walk around, walk back on again. I think we must of rode it at least 50 times over the course of our 3 day stay.
Definitely one of my favourite coasters ever, the air time is amazing throughout. I thought the station operation was good, the coasters arrived and a one minute clock would start. They would have unloaded and loaded the passengers in that minute ( it might of been a bit longer but they were on the ball ).
Silky smooth ride; now I want to go ride it again 😆

I love how Shambhala and Kahn intertwines. the hidden city’s perfectly hidden by China’s rolling hills with Kahn ripping through it all, so you can’t see Shambhalas little area from the main China area. It’s Disney levels of sight line management. Portaventura struck gold with this ride

    • @Fenrir6543
      @Fenrir6543 3 ปีที่แล้ว

That's a really good point that I've never thought about before. I've been to the park myself about 6-7 times and I've never noticed how hidden that area is. This, and Angor are really well hidden as their namesakes suggest they should be

I've never ridden an B&M hyper, but the staggered seating makes the train long and a more extreme front car and back car ride. This is B&M's biggest coaster with staggered seating, and also has B&M's biggest camel back. Diamondback still looks to have the best layout, and looks like it has the most airtime of any coaster except Steel Vengeance and The Voyage, but Shambhala is def. a bucket list coaster for me. Thanks for this awesome review!

Those restraints are incredibly safe. Like one time I let the ride op push it down, and there was probably a good 2-3 clicks of room. Even as a coaster enthusiast, I was a bit worried. I didn’t push it down further though, but after the train started levelling out after the first drop, it was fully tightened anyway!

While Y'all stuck at home, allow me to tell you about some of the parks I've visited in Eastern Europe, this time, In East Germany:
    'Seilschwebebahnen am Ochsenkopf':
At Seilschwebebahnen am Ochsenkopf you can find the Coaster Ochsenkopf toboggan run. This is an alpine coaster built by Wiegand in 2015. It has a length of 1099.7 meters. Unfortunately, it was equipped with the so-called fun breaks that get just about all the fun out of a toboggan run. Next to it was also an extremely steep and fast toboggan run with a gutter, but it was clearly out of operation for a while. A shame because this one looked very dangerous, good and full of adrenaline!
    'Fröschbrunna':
At Fröschbrunna we find the Fröschbrunna Coaster. This is a very short 610 meter long alpine coaster. It was built in 2000 by Wiegand. The trail runs on a lawn and near a forest.
    'Ski- und Rodelarena Wasserkuppe':
Ski- und Rodelarena Wasserkuppe is known for the legendary Rhönbob, a very good alpine coaster that was the very first that Wiegand built in 1997. In 2018 it was demolished and replaced by a new type of alpine coaster from Wiegand. Wiegand also named it Rhönbob and the course is the same, but the experience is completely different.
Wiegand promised that this one would get even better than the previous one, but nothing could be further from the truth. The comfort is high, better than before, but the speed is completely off the track due to the automatic brakes installed over the entire track. The track itself also looks completely different than normal and the boxes are much heavier than usual. Really a shame what Wiegand did here, because the old Rhönbob was one of the best alpine coaster I had ever done. This new one can be added to the list of one of the worst ...
In addition to the Rhönbob, there are also two summer toboggan runs where you can ride a sled in a gutter, but these were closed due to the rainy weather. There is also the Hexenbesen, a bizarre roller coaster of the Mystical Hex type that was also built by Wiegand. This one was closed due to technical problems, luckily I could have done it in 2016.
    'Silbersee Bob:
The Silbersee Bob is a toboggan run of the alpine coaster type. This modest alpine coaster has a length of 613 meters. It was built in 2000 by the German company Wiegand. Here were also some playground equipment such as a Nautic Jet.

I wrote a summary review in my opinion, here it is:
    SHAMBHALA, PORTAVENTURA WORLD
Shambhala at PortAventura World in Spain is by far the best rollercoaster I have ever ridden. It is a 249ft B&M Hyper coaster that opened in the China section of the park in 2012, dwarfing the classic Dragon Khan roller coaster. If you are lucky, you’ll get waves from the Dragon Khan riders as you ascend the lift at the same time. This ride is themed around the mountains, specifically the Himalayas. The ride features Disney-level theming and stunning landscaping. The thing that makes this ride especially unique is that it has staggered seating, only 3 other B&M coasters have this. This ride is a must do if you are in the nearby area.

Does the ride typically allow choice seating? When I was there, it was running one train and it was first-come, first-served. You couldn't wait an extra cycle for the back or front.

Unfortunately they usually operate it like that which is a shame!

You can never go wrong with a B&M hyper, like Theme Park Crazy says all the time :D B&M hypers are my favourite coaster model, and this is one I have on my bucket list~ Behemoth is the only B&M hyper I've been on, and that's already fantastic, but Shambhala just looks like the best of the 2nd generation B&M hypers.

Best experience I ever had at a theme park was riding Shambhala 6 times in a row without even getting off the train.
It was a very quiet week day and this was towards closing time and there was nobody in line, so everyone just started chanting OTRA! OTRA! (another one in spanish) and the technicians just asked if everyone wanted it, and they would open up the lap bar and let out those who didn't, and if not they would just check the restraints and back out and up the lift again
(edit: lucky to live 1h away from this monster!)

The single-rider queue is great for marathoning Shambhala.

Not had a chance to ride it yet. Hoping for a TPW ‘how to get there’ episode - similar to your recent Phantasialand one.

Just wondering. Does Shambhala offer anything in terms of Positive Gs?

It does in some areas, I’d say on the figure-8!

There is a soundtrack that plays around the queue and area but not on ride unfortunately! Would love a soundtrack on the lift like Mako!

for me, operations are one of the most important things, so portaventura was not somwhere i would pick to go, but its probably worth it for this beast of a ride

We've just come back from a week tk Salou. Stayed at H10 Salauris Palace which is 10 minutes walk to the parks and the beech. Perfect location and great hotel. So cheap too. Get a cheap Ryanair flight and it's so reasonably priced. You get the best of both worlds, a few days in the parks and a few days sunbathing...we absolutely loved it.

What is the fastest way to get to Shambhala from the entrance? (to beat other people to to the queue)
