    I really like small fixed blades, mostly because they're legal here. I would usually carry them in a pocket sheath or as a neck knife, which hides them even better

    • @danvondrasek
      @danvondrasek ปีที่แล้ว

      Most of the laws only limit length on concealed carry knives, and don't have any rules on open carried. As long as it's visible, you can get away with a full 12 inch survival knife if you wanted-usually.
      But most cops don't know the laws, and think it means all knives have to be 3 inch or 2.5, etc.

    • @Kleiner_Lutz
      @Kleiner_Lutz ปีที่แล้ว

      @@danvondrasek well our laws forbid us to carry any folder that opens one handed and locks open, that outrules most modern knives. Two handed folders are often slow and cumbersome to use. So you gotta opt for fixed blades if you want a legal knife, but that may not have a blade longer than 4 1/4 inch. Only good thing is our laws say nothing bout concealed carry, so I may hide my knives, which is good cause it saves me from the weird looks of people who don't carry knives

    • @17_plus_WON

      I refuse to obey unconstitutional laws and laws that violate our personal freedoms. These laws were constructed by corrupt politicians with an agenda and desire to strip us of our rights. It gets even deeper, but I'll leave it there. Most ppl wouldn't understand or believe me anyway. The good news is things are about to change. We The People are taking our power back.

    • @mattholley3642
      @mattholley3642 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@Kleiner_Lutz Sounds like German laws. You guys have a number of length restrictions though, correct?

    • @Kleiner_Lutz
      @Kleiner_Lutz 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@mattholley3642 yes, german laws. The length restriction isn't actually that bad, I hardly need or want to carry a knife that is over 4inches long, and if I do I got what's called a justified purpose, which creates an exception to the rule. The complete ban on one-handed opening folders bothers me much more cause it bans the type of knife that is usually most practical to carry and safest to use. If you want to go with a folder.

    My edc stuff is my older SOG mulittool , Tops 4" fix blade police Interceptor and a Tops/Fox collaboration tanto folder. Different tools for different jobs. Honestly, nothing beats the Tops police Interceptor for me, been daily carrying for over 10 years, use it quite a bit for prying stuff open or taking apart. The tanto tip never fails, it's 1095 and holds an edge. I've pretty much worn-out the first and bought another. For my outdoor and bug out bag I have a Tops Operator 7 and Skullcrusher. I have lots of different brands and blades, but these just work no matter what. I retired my old Cold Steel Recon V Tanto, was my bush blade for 25 years, the last 2-3 years have been my Tops Operator 7.

    The only issue for me with carrying a smaller fixed blade is whenever I try the damn things are too small for me to get a good grip. I'm cursed with bear paws for hands essentially. A lot of smaller fixed blades are you there uncomfortable to carry or I'll have 2 fingers hanging off the edge while I'm trying to grab it.
    If I had a knife that was somewhere between 4 and 4 and a 1/2 inches long for the blade Is with a decent handle that my hand could fit properly I pretty much carry that every day

    When I carry fixed, I usually carry an Izula 2 horizontally, owb, with the handle end slightly canted downward, just to the right of my belt buckle, near my front-center waistband. On my body, this is how it conceals the best beneath my shirt. But I had always been only carrying it in the colder months because I dress a lot lighter in the summer and it prints with my summer t shirts. Lately, I have realized that I can still carry it in the summer by simply putting it in my pocket. 😂 I have an Armatus Carry sheath that has a thumb ramp, so it can be unsheathed in the pocket and drawn. I am kind of on a fixed blade kick, so I’m currently preferring to carry the fixed all the time if possible instead of a folder. My izula 2 is a black oxide version, so it doesn’t have the powder coat, and is therefore a bit thinner, but it does kinda smell like pennies that have been soaked in piss. Lol. That acidic chemical reaction of the black oxide coating stinks and hasn’t faded much in a few years. But not having the powder coat makes the knife thinner and more slicey. I’m currently on the quest for a certain different small fixed blade, if I can get lucky on a small batch drop. I like the izula 2 better than the version 1 because I’m not a fan of 3 finger grip and the regular izula is just a little too small handle for me.

    100% prefer fixed over folding. I don't use expensive knives much, because the most im cutting is boxes or some bank line or para cord. That can be done with a cheap Mora 511. They're cheap enough where I can buy 30, and keep them everywhere that I need one, while still being good enough steel to keep an edge and fix with my pocket diamond.
    I only carry the nice ones when I'm dressed up. That way when I have to cut a package open or something everyone goes "oo that's pretty nice"

My current EDC is an Esee Izula in S35VN with aftermarket scales from The Knife Connection, a Leatherman Free P4 and a Cold Steel Ultimate Hunter. Love your choice in knives man, the handle is almost as important as the blade and i see way too many knives that might have great steel and materials used buy the have these agressive finger choils or they they have all these contours that are suppose to fit in your hand, in my experience nothing beets a simple broom handle which can be gripped multiple ways and never produces hot spots simpler is better ihmo

    Yeah I definitely see what he means I have had folding close on me a couple times while I'm doing something a little rough with it and messed up my fingers so now I kinda always have that in the back in the back of my mind but with a fixed blade I feel way more comfortable and secure i guess plus they can usually take more of a beating before it's completely unusable

  • @martinmiller1087
    @martinmiller1087 ปีที่แล้ว

    You said you like to EDC a fixed blade as a complement to your multitool. ... I've never had any reason to carry a multitool. ... I worked for the State of Alaska, DNR, Div of Forestry. Our warehouse would issue us a Leatherman tool and leather belt sheath. i carried one on a remote wilfdfire in Interior Alaska for several weeks, where we primitive camped. it was neved used. Back in Fairbanks, I returned it to the warehouse. ... i went back to my much more useful Swiss Army Knife, a 4" folder and a 6" fixed blade. Back in the mid 1990s, I bought a Leatherman. .I kept it in the glove box of my 4wd Toyota P-U. I don't recall ever using it. ... In 2001, I began driving another vehicle. i have no recollection of what happened to that Leatherman. I haven't seen it in decades and have never missed it. ... It's like the current trend to EDC a prybar. A prybar? How often do you need a 4" titanium prybar? ... I was in a Starbucks about 8 years ago and was talking to a stranger about my age. He was carrying a small grappling hook in his pocket! Seriously, a grappling hook. ... A couple weeks ago, I watched a You Tube videofilmed at the annual Georgia Bushcraft Gathering in a big field in Georgia. It was a pocket dump video. You wouldn't believe all the crazy, mostly useless stuff people were carrying. It wasn't a bushcraft gathering, it was a "gear queer" expo. ...There must be something in the water.

    Thin fixies, most are too tall blade edge to crown, we need more slender “shorter” fixed blades with thinner handles. More like a fixed blade rat 2.
