This video gives a brief overview of ways that I've used OpenMusic in composing a recent piece for chamber ensemble. I derived the harmony for this new work by using some ideas developed by Polish composer Witold Lutosławski. After implementing these concepts in a patch, I was able to take a sample pitch collection from a passage by Ravel and develop some new harmonies with particularly useful interval structures. I then used OpenMusic to form these harmonies into a passacaglia-type chord progression to form the harmonic basis for the piece.

I really appreciate that you've taken the time to make all these videos but why haven't you been using audio playback to demonstrate some of the examples?

This is excellent content showing what OpenMusic can be used for. Please keep uploading!

Really great stuff. Would be great if you could do a BEGINNERS beginners course showing how to create chord sequences from a sequence of pitches etc. and how and where to use the more simple functions like x-=>dx, dx-=>x, list, omquantify etc. really showing the formula that's being built. A lot of the content I'm finding online demands quite a high level of understanding of the software and I feel like a couple of videos where you encourage the audience to build a simple patch along with you exploring first pitch, then rhythm, then harmony etc. would be really useful and popular.

Thanks for your comment! I'd encourage you to continue on to the next video, which begins working systematically through the OpenMusic environment. Hope this helps! th-cam.com/video/D_l9LLEAsdY/w-d-xo.html

Excuse me, I'm French, and, at the beginning of your video, you talk about French tutorials for Open music.
It's strange because I don't find these French tutorial on the web...can you tell me where do you find them?
    Many thanks for your answer

Hello, thanks for the great video! Do you know if there's any extensions for OM for working with machine learning?

That's a great question! I'm not familiar with all of the available libraries, but the OM-XMM library may be of interest to you. I know there's an om-ai library that has been described in a publication but the github project for the library appears to be missing...

Thanks very much for this content! It's super helpful. May I ask you how can you build a harmony progression from point A to B and choosing how many steps in between?
