Assassin's Creed Origins: The Hidden Ones (The Movie)

- You voted for it, and here it is, my movie edit for The Hidden Ones, the main story DLC expansion for Assassin's Creed Origins. This story takes place 4 years after Assassin's Creed Origins, in the Sinai Peninsula, and features the foundations of important elements of the Assassin's Creed.
I don't often do movie edits for DLC, but this one I felt was too important to the lore of Assassin's Creed to pass up, and it had some really strong story moments as well that I felt fans of my movies should see, and perhaps a glimpse at what's to come in Odyssey? Maybe, maybe not, we'll see.
As always, the goal of these projects to me is to focus on telling the story, rather than showing every second of the game like a walkthrough. I want to create an experience that everybody can understand and enjoy, whether they play video games or not. I do keep a substantial amount of gameplay where necessary, in order to maintain continuity, story flow, or prevent losing viewers by creating plot holes. But I try to keep that gameplay to only the minimum necessary, so that the movie continues to focus on the storytelling.
Many of my movies allow me to make multiple "takes" of each scene until I'm happy with the results. Unfortunately in AC Origins, you aren't allowed to replay scenes, so I really had to deal with what happened the first time through. I tried my best to work with what I could, but admittedly a couple assassination scenes turned out less than ideal. I certainly hope Ubisoft brings back the concept of replaying memories in their future games. It has been an important tool in making these movies for me since AC4.
Like usual, I try to make ther experience as much like watching a hollywood movie as I can. The biggest step in this is removing the HUD. While I could not replay missions, I did study walkthroughs of each mission before I played them so I had some prior knowledge, although the previously mentioned missions were larger and a bit more unpredictable in gameplay. I also use VFX and editing to remove any on screen indicators that remain. In this case, it was pretty much just those pointless and annoying "saving..." reminders that pop up very frequently in AC games, but I was able to remove them all as far as I could tell.

I wish I could afford to simply pay someone to do subtitles haha, but basically when subtitles are included, I need them to be optional, rather than always on, baked into the video, etc. For one, forcing everybody to see subtitles ruins the experience for a lot of people (I'm one of very few youtubers that actually does video games WITHOUT subtitles!), and secondly, it makes editing a whole lot more difficult, because there are times when I need to zoom in, remove button prompts, etc, and subtitles would get in the way of that. Using TH-cam's CC service is the way to fix that, so the subtitles are optional, but they're also translatable, which is a big bonus.
I have enabled community contributions, and so everybody is free to help me write subtitles for my movies, but when I'm in between movie projects I also work on typing subtitles myself. This year I released my own subtitles for Rise of the Tomb Raider and AC Freedom Cry, and when I get the chance, this movie will actually be my next subtitle project to work on. But some of my fans have also written subtitles for several other of my movies as well. My hope is that when I get more subscribers, either I will have enough fans that want to help, or I will make enough money to be able to pay someone to do it. But paying someone to sub a 10 min video vs paying someone to sub a 3+ hour video are two very different things, money wise, so I would probably need a much higher number of subscribers for that.

I have always loved your videogame movies Andy! Really curious to see how you'll handle God of War. Are you actually gonna try to retain the single shot/no cut technique? I'm really curious especially if you'll employ the upgrades. How would you conceal the menus and all?
Keeping no shot just isn't an option unfortunately. Even with cutting down on gameplay wherever it feels possible to do so without creating plot holes or removing important dialogue, it's going to be a LONG movie. Longest yet most likely. The game does have an immersive mode which removes most of the HUD (although I've left compass on touchpad, just in case I don't remember where to go), although "mission complete" things are still there and are likely impossible to remove with VFX. It also still lists mission objectives at the top left at the beginning of a mission as well, but those may be possible to remove, at least in some cases since they don't obscure the action like the other does. As for menus, such as upgrades and purchases, I limit those to whenever I'm talking to Brok or Sindri. When I'm done, I simply rotate the camera to a different angle and proceed forwards, so I can cut from the discussion to moving onward and it feels pretty organic. Thankfully, those moments also typically serve as a good "stopping point" for my recording sessions, otherwise I'd have to record the full game in one session lol!

It's not the best story, but I feel like Assassin's Creed Unity is some of my best work. I really focused on replaying each mission until I got a run that I was really happy with. I did a little of that in some of my other movies, but Unity I feel ended up with some of the best gameplay footage in any of my movies. I'm also particularly happy with the way Rise of the Tomb Raider ended up. I produced that movie in 2.39:1 aspect, which required me to manipulate by hand every single shot in the movie to look great in that framing, and I think the end result worked really well. I have done that in other movies as well, but I think it worked best in RotTR.
In terms of what stories are best, The Last of Us and Uncharted 4, and Uncharted 4 came out particularly nice because Naughty Dog thankfully included the best No HUD mode I've ever seen.
Interesting enough I haven't seen unity yet! So, that will definitely be the next one I watch. For what its worth, you do incredible job. Please but some subtitles
OoLRaxloO the thing about subtitles is I don't enable them in game because of a few reasons. First, it can mess with some of my editing techniques, second, it forces subtitles on for people who don't want them, and third, it only provides subtitles in one language. What I want to do is provide optional subtitles that can be translated into any language through TH-cam's caption service. I enabled community contributions, so my fans can help contribute subtitles, but I'm also working on adding subtitles to my movies one at a time where I can. Just know that it takes time to manually type and time each line of dialogue, and I'm doing this in my free time between working on each movie, so I can only do so much. Thankfully I have a few of my fans that have been helping out, primarily in Assassin's Creed movies.
1 remark: u shouldnt put too much gameplay in the clip. Like when you are i the fort, just record the way you get in the fort and 15 sec before you find the target or make a conversation
I heavily edited down all of the fort scenes, but it's important to tell a story here. With the large fort, you are shown the grandness of the scale of the fort. It wouldn't make sense for Bayek to clear his way through it so quickly. I need to show that he was strategic in clearing the defenses before proceeding inwards, but that was still heavily edited down from the original. In the opening quarry fort, probably 90% of my gameplay was cut down there. In the pyramid fort, I also cut down probably half of the approach, but I still needed a clear sense of continuity in the approach into the pyramid. For the mission with the ships essentially acting like a fort, there wasn't much I could cut down on, but I did cut down on some of the direct combat, and some of the approach to achieve a better pacing.
So there's always a lot that goes into those decisions. While I prefer to show as little gameplay as I can, that gameplay can be crucial to the storytelling of the mission, especially in a game like this which is a bit less linear and cinematic than its predecessors.

The writers for this dlc really understand the heart and soul of Assassins Creed. While Ubisoft as a company doesn’t, I appreciate the work the writers put into this
What do you mean; Did you even see how Origins story played out ; It showed in the best way possible the creation of the creed and the reason why the common people need it. The whole game takes the title "Assassin's Creed Origins" and gives you its definition while also answering questions like what is the creed, why do we need it or how was it created..the story starts with something personal (revenge) and while it evolves, something bigger comes out of all of this just like Bayek said. There are so many parts of the game where it shows you how the brotherhood from an idea became a dogma that works in the shadows for the people while the order works in the shadows of kings. So its not just the writers of the dlc but the whole game that is so well made and written in my opinion which Ubisoft made

This is still the best modern AC story cause it literally has to do with actual Assassin's and the Creed. Basically this was the final game of AC and no it didn't die cause of RPG mechanics.

Amazing work as always! Only wished you would’ve spoken to the few assassins at the cave bureau for final closure! Such as the Scarab’s son. Also the female who bayek took in and made her do a leap of faith.
TheDreamManifester didn't think about the cave. I did consider including more side content, but none of it felt quite as important as shadows of the scarab to the story.
I was so delighted I’ve finally found a channel that I can catch up with the whole sequel, until I’ve found that there’s no subtitle after Revelations.
I mean, dude, with all those different ascents in the game and historical terms, cities, name and whatnot, it’s really hard to fully understand the content even for a native speaker.

I totally get that. The subtitles on the earlier videos were provided by the community, as I unfortunately don't have the time to type them all up myself as that would significantly delay my releases. I also don't record footage with subtitles included for a few reasons, because first of all it can't be translated, second of all some people don't want subtitles, and finally it would interfere with some of what I do to edit these movies.

so it was possible, the creed lives on through petra (modern day jordan) and judea (modern day israel and palestine) and possibly throughout asia and the far east.
This entire dlc reminded me of the story of The Dark Knight 2008 film. With Gamilat being Harvey Dent and how the Bayek and the Assassins protected his true identity from Sinai to preserve his heroic image. Another parallel was Bayek's prime like Batman's against the crazy Rufio (Joker). That's how I saw it.

Too much gameplay. The purpose of these movie type videos is to leave only scenes with important dialog.
It's not a cutscene compilation, it's a movie. The gameplay scenes I included are important to telling the story. With cutscenes only you'd miss a lot of the story.

You don't have to complete the hidden ones DLC. You should be able to just travel back to the main map I believe.

I just watched the Gameplay Trailer for Assassin's Creed Odyssey. Apparently you can play as either a male or female character. Are you going to do two movies, each one with a different gender, of Assassin's Creed Odyssey?
Aidan Kennedy from what I hear the story is the same no matter what you choose, and I also don't make multiple movies for choice based games, so no I won't do two movies. I'll have to decide what choices I want to make for the movie.

I did. It was a fun DLC, with beautiful locations, but there wasn't much story in it, so I didn't feel like it was important enough to turn into a movie.

next assassin's creed game is Ac: Odyssey, which is a bloody long story with different choices to make... Perhaps you didn't put it into your plans, right?
It's planned for sure, but ever since youtube came out with the community tab feature I've been letting my viewers decide what order I make my movies in. Right now I'm working on God of War, and then after that comes out I'll put up a poll asking which movie to make next. Odyssey will be one of the choices. As for how I make it, I'm planning to follow the official novelization as a script for what choices to make, as that's the official canon story.

I disable the HUD in game here. Yes I had to do a lot of research and memorization to play the missions without a map. Senu could be helpful as well in some cases.

The newest movie I uploaded has subtitles through the youtube caption service, and I plan to continue doing that from now on. For my older movies, I rely on the community to help me out and submit subtitle tracks wherever possible, but I also try to take some time between projects to work on subtitling them as well, when I have the free time (although that's essentially my weekend, so other things take priority)

I don't think there is one in this game. Do you have an example from this video? I think the no fall damage skill was added in Odyssey, not Origins.

Are you going to do the second DLC Curse of the Pharaohs?
No I decided against that one. That DLC doesn't have a whole lot of story, it's more about the new locations and boss fights. I don't usually do DLC, it's just that the Hidden Ones story was pretty important to the lore and had some great scenes and character moments so I didn't want to skip that one.
