To start a Mini Cooper with a remote key fob that has a dead battery or is not working:
1. Place the smart key remote fob in next to the key icon on your steering column.
2. Start your Mini Cooper as your normally would.

Thank you for the clear advice. I followed it, and got my Mini engine to turn on. Ran the engine for a while, turned it off. Next time, I had to do it all over again, despite replacing the battery. Not sure where to go from here - will probably have to bite the bullet and get a replacement. Nice clear vid though.

I have a 2008 R56 Mini Cooper hatchback. My manual key will NOT unlock the door. I don't know if the fob is dead or the car battery. I cannot get into the car. It is the type of fob that won't open to change the battery. I've heard about getting underneath and jumping the starter, but I wanted to see if you knew of another way to get into the car without doing that or breaking the window!

i did this like you do it work ,but after i replace battery that i can't use keyless ,so should i setting something else?

Hi, you dont perhaps know how to do the same with 2011 model. Mine does not show a key icon on the steering colum anywhere.
