I have a 2008 R56 Mini Cooper hatchback. My manual key will NOT unlock the door. I don't know if the fob is dead or the car battery. I cannot get into the car. It is the type of fob that won't open to change the battery. I've heard about getting underneath and jumping the starter, but I wanted to see if you knew of another way to get into the car without doing that or breaking the window!
I find it really stiff turning the key once it's in the key cylinder. I could only turn it 90º one way and about 75º in the other and couldn't open it. 2017 MiniCooper. Any thoughts?
so after replacing the battery do i need to setup the key bottoms again or is it just the "new" battery that's also dead.. yet never used still in the package? thanks
I tried this last night and it didn’t work! It’s not the physical key you put against the key sign it’s the fob. Even though the battery is dead it will still start the engine. I have a 2017 mini.

I’m really sorry, but I do not consider a “fob” a “physical key” when there’s a “fail safe” key, which is ACTUALLY A PHYSICAL KEY, inside the fob. It could be confusing for some… just trying to help clarify , no need to be heavy handed, Bro.

2008 long pre-dates my experience with MINI, I would refer to owner's manual

Thank you for watching, I'm not 100% sure what you mean but after you replace the key battery, everything should be fine again
If the battery is replaced but I want to use the button to open it or sensor what should I do ? Would it be the cars door sensor that has a problem?
If the button is not working and the key battery is fine, then you have an issue with your comfort access system. Bring to dealer

For part two, to start the car with a weak/dead remote, you MUST use the FOB, not the physical key!
correct, you place the back of the fob where it says MINI on the right side of the steering column
