Having smaller hands/fingers, that tight thumb hole is one of the draws of the glove for me. I can wedge my thumb further right and it feels fully secure. And when you cheat your thumb more to the right you get less of that pinching. I don't have that same model, but I noticed the pinching as well until I shifted my thumb over just a bit more.
More like added lacing. Because the factory lacing is just the laces that go across, I wanted a little more reinforcement at the top. I just got a black Rawlings relacing kit and added the wraps at the top. Took like 10 mins and was done.
