  • Get the Early Spring RTW Look with Commercial Sewing Patterns featuring Reformation, JCrew, Liberty of London and Ella Johnson as some of the styles I matched patterns in this go around. I also wanted to talk about Projector using to cut our patterns and Pattern Subscriptions.
    As always visit our website at www.massonlifes... for links on where you can get the patterns and fabrics I talked about in this video.

    I'm old school. I prefer traditional paper patterns. Using a projector seems like too much fuss for alterations. Thank you for the pattern suggestions. I love it when you curate patterns for RTW.

    Old school paper pattern fan 🙋🏻‍♀️. Also, I won’t be participating in any pattern subscriptions. Not everything is my style, I’m very particular when selecting a garment make. By the way you saved the day with your sew a long for Mc Calls Henley top…. that pattern and instructions was nightmare.😵‍💫 I’m thrilled to have found your channel and love your content.

      Hi Tonya! Thank you for your kind words. Yes the Henley top everything goes well until you get to the collar. I wished there was an easier way for that one.

    I like the paper pattern the best. And I mean purchased in an envelope. Not taping together sheets from my printer.

    I am interested in projector sewing because of environmental implications but at this time, I am not willing to spend $800 on the Ditto system being offered by Singer/Jo-Ann's. I am also not willing to join any pattern subscription clubs at this time because most of them cost about $150 a year and that is above my current pattern budget. The added sewing tutorials that come with the subscription clubs do not represent an added value to me because of all the sew-alongs and tutorials that can be found here on TH-cam.

    I always enjoy your videos. This time I just had to comment. As for projectors, honestly I agree with another commenter here, it a lot more time and energy for me but I'm always open to new ways of streamlining the process. However, a projector is SPACE prohibitive for me! I already have such a cramped space that I struggle with so WHY would I add another dimension that would only fight for my precious sewing "real estate"? That is a NO for me.
    Same with pattern subscriptions. Overall TOO expensive and I already know that I don't want to keep things that I will never use. Another NO for me. Happy Spring sewing!

      I have so limited time during the day, I know putting another “hurdle” on my list of things that I can do before I start sewing may put me over the edge. I Can see how someone with very limited space can find this useful but right now im going to observe and see what happens.

    Paper pattern girl here! I really enjoy having the physical pattern in my hands. I do want to get a projector but the Ditto one I am not interested in because of the cost, the fact that I would only be able to use their patterns and the subscription.

    • @MassonLifestyle
      @MassonLifestyle  ปีที่แล้ว

      I still have so many questions about the Ditto but the cost is a deal breaker. It is cost prohibitive for sure and it’s a tough one that you can only use it with their patterns. I like to have more flexibility than that. I think it’s a good concept but like you, I’m going to stick with my paper patterns for the time being.

    My house is not very suited to a projector but if I had a good space, I would switch in order to save paper. Maybe when I buy my retirement house it will be a consideration.

    I get what you are saying about pdfs and indie patterns in general. To me, financially it doesn't make sense to pay so much for a pdf. My style is rather classic so I can find most of what I would wear in big4 patterns. I have bought a few patterns from Love Notions, but I have yet to sew one, because I can't justify the time to print and assemble the pattern, or the extra expense of sending it to a copy shop. I would rather use one of the paper patterns I already have in my stash and modify to include whatever details I would like. Maybe I should actually try sewing the ones I have so far before passing judgement. But unless it's something super special, I don't think I'd be buying any more pdfs. I rather perfect the fit on basic Big4 patterns and use that to create different looks without having to rework the fitting.

    • @MassonLifestyle
      @MassonLifestyle  ปีที่แล้ว

      I do have to say the majority of the items I wear are more basic patterns vs things with a lot of “fluff”, I love a good challenging pattern but I rather do an amazing coat pattern if I want something that is a lot more complicated because I know I will wear it vs a dress.

    Back to add that I’ve been getting a lot of inspiration from SaksFifthAvenue and Neiman Marcus. If you search for the word POPLIN or Shirt dress a lot of beautiful things come up. I like knits, and I sew with them, yet I’m very drawn to cotton and linen, as so live in Florida. I don’t know anything about the new projector system. I don’t think it’s anything I would consider at this time because of cost.

  • @lorirees4248

    i know that people say you can make adjustments digitally but personally i think that process might be frustrating for me. i don't mind the idea of subs, but my problem is that most of the clubs seem to have watered down designs that aren't terribly interesting, which makes the cost not worth it to me. did you raise the neckline on your adrienne? mine was way more plunging than yours when i made it.

    I'm not ready for a projector. I almost always have to do adjustments (5'3") so I don't think it would work that well. Also a pass on subscriptions. I have limited storage space and don't want to use it on things that I don't need or won't be making in the near future.

    The French Poetry Stella dress could be hacked into the Ella ZIgzag dress. I want a projector. I trace patterns and print pdfs anyway so it wouldn't be extra time. I will be buying a used short throw though. A $800 projector is too much for sewing.

    Projectors 😝👎🏽👎🏽👎🏽👎🏻isn’t any less time or work than taping the patterns while I watch a movie. As for subscriptions .. I am part of Seam work. I haven’t had any issues. I love their sew alongs. They always provide 2 patterns a month so if I don’t care for one pattern I always like the other. I canceled my subscription with Cashmerette. I wasn’t impressed with their patterns they’re much pricier and don’t have the community or help like Seam work. Love your piece ❤.. was wondering when you do these type of videos to put links. Cindy I have never tried the PDF patterns from the Big 4 but I download al my other patterns so they are readily available. BUT if you can only print them from their site, I would have some serious issues with that. I do love my paper patterns but it is nice to have some of these in PDF format, especially if I’m doing a pair of pants when I know the tissue will get destroyed with all the fitting adjustments I’ll make. Yes I can trace (but who has time for that?!). There are pluses and cons to it, for sure!
