    These test are not that useful. İ think in order to make a guess you need to use these oils in the car and run at the same condition for 50-100 k miles (of course need to change 5-10 times) and after check the engine if it is clean and not eroded then it is a good oil. Good oil means not only to protect against eroding but also to keep the engine clean.

    Based on the facts Mobil 1 5w30 will win against Amsoil OE 5w30 this is because Mobil 1 has a film strength of 117,000 psi vs Amsoil OE at 86,000 psi. The cold flow rate should be very close against the two. Never buy Amsoil for your car unless your buying signature series and running it for at least 10,000 miles the film strength is 134,000 psi the price for Amsoil OE isn’t worth it over Mobil 1,Valvoline high mileage full synthetic 124,000 psi Quaker State ultimate durability 123,000 psi. The Quaker state and valvoline are at of cost of $20 to $23 for far better protection then Amsoil OEs horrible price to protection value.

    This is a grease test. It has no bearing on engine oil, it represents nothing that goes on in an engine. In actual tear downs, measuring wear, weighing bearings and rings during blueprinting and after teardown, in the real world Redline offers FAR less wear in an 800hp street driven turbo 6 (my GN). Carbon buildup in the ring lands is another area Redline has been consistently superior. These two oils are not in the same league if the lowest possible wear and longevity is your goal. An equivalent weight Mobil One will probably give better mpg in the order of tenths of a mpg but I would rather get it from less blow by as the engine ages.

    • @Joshuahowell-j1g

      Surprised no one liked this comment. Spot on. A real good test would be to run some motors in a lab for say 24hrs straight,,,, at specific rpms. Then tear em down an see what's going on. I'd like to think that the folks that put more time money and resources into a product would have a cleaner engine. I will say in my stock motor I ran Mobil 1, but since my motor swap, I use a more superior oil. Whatever you use just keep it clean and up to spec for your application. Hammer down 🔨 🛠

  • @RPMHonduras

    i used to run M1 0w40 in a volvo engine, then after 35k miles i switched to RL 0w40, and been running it for like another 30,000 miles with RL. my results with both:
    - M1 consumes more oil
    - RL makes the valvetrain smoother and more quiet, specially when engine cold starts in the morning
    - RL gets a little bite more MPG
    - RL is very hard to find and costs more
    conclusion: they both are great oils, but definitely RL is superior overall, but M1 is more than enough for normal driving and its a very safe bet at a much better price

      Mobil 1 0w40 is known to be a thin 40grade and shears down to a 30grade after several heat cycles. It’s a good winter oil and has excellent wear reports. Redline has excellent wear reports - but also has a lower NOACK and the viscosity is a lot thicker closer to a 50grade. Thus, it’s great if you have a performance engine, loud valve train, or your engine consumes a bit.
      In other words, the price to performance ratio of Mobil 1 is great. However, if you’re looking for the extra sauce no matter the cost something like Redline or HPL SuperCar is where it’s at.

    Hahahaha completely biased test. The first test is irrelevant since the viscosity of redline still into the range and the M1 is close to 0w20 than 5w30. Second test: what are the press values in that test?! Clearly you can double the tension with the redline test.. just count the treads in the stud…Redline hands down the best motor in the market.
    Ester base, group V, extra Zn, Ph and Molybdenum. Mobil 1 is a good oil, but not even close.

    The funny, actually extra funny thing is, both oils have a published spec for cold pumpability. 5w is a range, not a extract value. Red line is thicker overall, whether for xW number or 30/40/50

  • @SmOgER10
    @SmOgER10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    First of all, you don't need to do a pour test. Those specs are available online. Just look at the producent specs and there will be viscosity specified for 40C. From that you will know which one will flow faster in the room temperature. The one with the lower number. Keep in mind that if you make the oil to be thinner at lower temperatures, in most cases you will compromise it's performance at operating temps (100C+) and make it thinner than optimal for high loads. This is most likely the case with Mobil 1 (if you want you can check the specs yourself at 100C too). Lastly, your wear test is a too specific of a scenario which will inadvertently prefer one type of viscosity over the other. It's inevitable that in an engine operating in different temperature as well as having different tolerances and oil pressure the results will be entirely different.
    EDIT: Mobil1 viscosity at 100C for 5w40 --> 13.2
    Redline 5w40 --> 15.6. So, Mobil1 is almost 20% thinner when at operating temperature, which for performance engines is not good at all.

    For the bearing test, you lubricated the redline with contact, and the Mobil while open. My interest in redline, specifically 0W-20, is for its NOACK rating. My understanding is that a lower score there is better turbochargers.

    I struggle to trust anything from redline. Their HTHS values are always way above any major competitor, I suspect malpractice in testings and what you get in the bottle is not what they send out.

    • @alouisschafer7212
      @alouisschafer7212 ปีที่แล้ว

      engine oil is objective science
      Their HTHS are 100% where I would expect them to be. They fall in line with other high quality fully synthetic oils.
      They formulate their oils to be at the very end of the allowed viscosity scale for the spec. So their 5w40 is about as thick as a 5w40 can be for wear protection, best HTHS and least noise from lifters for example.

    See here’s the thing, everyone wants to test wear with a funky machine. Any cheap off the shelf full synthetic will do the job just fine. The most critical thing is changing the oil early 3-4K, mainly it’s the contaminants created from the by product of combustion, they stay in the oil, they play havoc with gaskets and seals. A modern oil can deal with this to a point, but changing the oil early is the best approach. New Mobil 1 > 3k old Amsoil,
