One of my favorite pieces of all time (and it's only a page in length haha)! I hope the tips shared in this tutorial can help you in your studies. I wish you all the best for another great week of practice!
6:36 The Leggiero section of Scherzo No. 2 faces the same problem, so many pianists treat that section like an etude, zooming across the keyboard. When you slow it down a little you get a better sense of the harmonic changes and that bottom line sings much more freely. I love Zimerman's interpretation because of this
Finally, I'm getting off the quintuplet thing in my head xD I just caught off by that as you said to the point in sounds really mechanic. Pretty sure this will helps! :D
Hey josh, I’m a pianist in my junior year of high school with a ton of homework, and on top of that I have a job outside of school. School started for me about 4 weeks ago and I haven’t had time to practice at all since then. I’m freaking out because I was supposed to play in a bunch of competitions this year, kind of like a “kickoff year” I suppose, to get me used to playing in a bunch of competitions every year and learning new repertoire. I was really looking forward to playing at these competitions this year, but naturally school should come first, right? So my question is: Looking at a situation like this from a professional’s point of view, are my chances at giving concerts when I’m older ruined? Or should I still shoot for that goal and use whatever time I get to practice this year, and just play at these competitions next year? Many thanks from Alaska
By concerts do you mean being a concert pianist? Imo if you cant practice a lot of hours everyday it is going to be extremely difficult because there are many great pianists practicing hours on end. Hope it helped and good luck.
To be honest, I think the fact that he didn't write it as quintuplets indicates that there's a widespread misinterpretation of this piece. He rather obviously didn't write that by mistake, and I can't think of an explanation that would lead him to imagine quintuplets and write a triplet-duplet pair. To me, the most likely explanation seems to be that he intended for it to be played rather slower than the modern "leggiero", and to sound somewhat "choppy" as you describe. After all, that choppiness is the effect I get from the wide arpeggios. Also, he was clearly intending to create not only a harmonic but also a textural contrast with the chorale-like interludes between the fast parts, so wouldn't it make sense for the rhythmic dissonance to put across that contrast?

right on, helping me hear what I would’ve missed in the piece! Thank you x 1000
Op. 28 #16, #18, #22 and #24 are my favourites. I like 12 too.
Listen to the blechaz recording!! His recordings of the polonaise are amazing!

This piece actually sounds and feels very similar to schubert impromptu op. 90 no. 4

2:48 the interesting technique comes ...
I had a Chopin roommate in college
He didn't just write it in quintuplets because then it'd be easier that way..🤔
