The other reason why the top mounting plate bracket has play because , when the top box is on the motorcycle with fully loaded with stuff while you are cornering or making quick lane changes it doesn't affect the center of gravity ( top heavy) The side to side play in the top plate eliminates that top heavy feeling when you are riding. Thanks for this video, it brought to me memories of 1983-84. On the Rajdoot Yamaha 350, I have fabricated two side cage. It held the VIP vanity case. In the bottom each had a pair of 'butterfly nut' to fasten. On the top, rear carrier the bracket was modified and it had a 21" standard suitcase, again fastened the same way. All three (red)were detachable. Over all I had put some imported tail lights and turn lights on all the three of them. These were at that time connected by the computer wires i.e. ribbon connectors. Disconnecting the three connectors, before detaching. I am laughing while I type....other riders use to follow, slightly overtake and again retract. From left side, from right side.....it was a great fun.....some asked me to stop and let them have a look. Funny were those days. Today I wish to have a Goldwing...... Thanks Abhinav ji......... rr.
I am happy to note the detail and planning that has gone into the manufacture of these top boxes and their mounting brackets. Thanks for sharing this lovely bit of information. I believe it is a one time expense but will pay rich dividends later when on the road touring. May your patience pay off handsomely !
Hello, I have the 2018 model of the 1200 and one thing you should look out for, in case your not aware is the centre stand rubber (gear lever side). When they snap off (I have gone through three already) they allow the stand to shift and hit the exhaust, which pushes it up through its mount but more importantly the stand also starts to rub into the drive shaft, which also causes a lot of damage. Thought I would share in case you not aware, also the bolts and nuts get very dry, I use a bit of “copper slip” where possible. They are a lovely bike, I adore mine and so comfortable to ride.
Hi Abhnav, you are the most sensible in this segment - and make to the point - clean cut videos. Kudos to you. May I ask you where and for how much did you buy the bike for? you may DM me if its ok ....Thx. Keep doing what you do.
Hi Chetan. Thank you for the appreciation. The bike was my good friend's so I got a good deal on it. I am not comfortable disclosing the price, but it is still a fairly significant number since the bike is just 2 years old and 6,000 km old.
At 2:14 = maybe spacers? Also a bunch of questions though 1) What is the load bearing capacity of each pannier stand? 2)what do the panniers weigh empty? 3)does the pannier mount and exhaust on the right side interfere with wheel change?
The side panniers from RE can be bought for Rs 18k and top box of 32 litre capacity costs 27k. So total cost of about 45k can get you a similar configuration.
For the cost of ur luggage system ...I can get a brand new Himalayan ... for the cost of ur bike...I can go on a world tour with the Himalayan... Brute reality... But truth be told... Motorcycles are creatures of their own kind...each holds a charm like no other... I wish you tons of happy miles on the tiger...Cheers 🙌🏼

Hi Abhinav. I'm looking to pick up a used 1200 myself but the old bird has done 74k kms already. As an owner of one yourself, what do you think is the life of these things?

Hi Abhinav. I am getting a sparingly used 2018 1200 XCA (16 lakh), Multistrada 1260s (13 lakh), and BMW F900XR Pro (10.5 lakh). Mind says Tiger for its complete package, the weight is the only deterrent. Heart says Ducati or the BMW for agility. Appreciate your tips on buying. Thanks
That's a lot of money for the Tiger. I haven't ridden the other two so I can't comment on them. The tiger is very nimble. The weight disappears as soon as it gets moving. It is also the comfiest bike I've ever ridden.
I doubt, bro. You will need to work on riding skills a little to handle it at 5'7. My friend Yudhvir is also 5'7 but he rides my bike with ease. Many taller riders struggle though.

The side panniers from RE can be bought for Rs 18k and top box of 32 litre capacity costs 27k. So total cost of about 45k can get you a similar configuration.
Givi panniers are aerodynamic which RE panniers are not so you can do 120+ kmph easily on Givi.
