    First glance, it was so obvious that he was not _aggressive,_ he was _terrified._ Hard to blame him, given how tough his life must have been. Good human.

      @@user-kq6ki5bn2k, I imagine that being in a shelter is traumatizing for all animals, especially the older ones as they are much more aware as to the sounds and smells. We always adopt from our local shelter and our last adoptee was an adult male Maine coon, but I knew nothing of their breed until then. Shelter pets are the best pets because they know you rescued them and many times they rescue you too!

      I did that when I was 14 with a stray border collie mix dog that immediately stuck to me like glue. After my parents finally decided to let me keep her, the whole month of August I spent roughly 18 hrs per day/night comforting her and sitting and laying with her because she was so sickly from the deworming and other meds the vet put her on. She was only like 2 years old and was definitely abused, neglected and dumped. She never left my side and never needed to be put on a leash.

      Yeah, some people think stray and feral are the same thing. Feral cats are born in the wilderness and have no contact with humans while stray cats are usually abandoned pets or live in neighbourhoods and have gotten use to being around humans. @Hooch Smeeth like you said, not meowing. The type of vocalisation you see in this video isn’t that of a feral cat... And yeah, hissing and screaming can happen, but isn’t that also more common in semi-feral felines? As in, living on the streets but having some form of human contact (via feeding, for example)?

    • @eleanor.shadow
      @eleanor.shadow 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @Hooch Smeeth I’ve only experience with volunteering at shelters, but in some cases we had extremely aggressive/fearful cats that turned into absolute sweeties when taken out of the crowded environment and into homes. Same with dogs. Most shelters simply don't have the staff, especially properly trained staff, to make the distinction. The best medicine for that is TNR, and of course pet parents neutering their fluffies.

    My cat was also labelled aggressive and feral. His ear was tipped and although the shelter felt he could be rehabilitated, I was warned that he was "basically un-adoptable" and that if I didn't bring him home, "no one would." I was a novice cat owner afraid of taking on too much and failing my cat, but that second bit really tugged at my heartstrings. I immediately adopted him and within 1-2 days, it was OBVIOUS that he had just been scared out of his mind. It wasn't long before he was sleeping on my bed and even letting me pet his belly, LOL!

    My three-legged boy Kyoto came from the streets. He was one of the ferals I was feeding and one day I noticed that he was dragging a broken leg around. For two months I tried to catch him without any luck as he would zip off quick as lightning whenever I tried to go near him. Then one day, out of the blue, he came to me meowing while I was feeding the other ferals as if asking for help and amazingly he let me touch him! So I quickly bundled him up into the carrier I already had on stand-by in my car and shipped him off to the vet. Unfortunately, the bad leg had to be amputated. I brought him home after the surgery and for several weeks had to endure countless bites and scratches from him whenever I fed him and tried to touch him. He was so feral that I even contemplated releasing him back on the streets after he recovered, thinking that he simply wasn't happy being a house cat. Turned out he just needed a little more time and patience. Today he is my sweetest, most docile furbaby who loves kisses and cuddles. I'm glad I gave him a chance, and I'm glad he gave me a chance too.

All of the sudden he decided to try to get on couch with everyone and see what cuddling was like. Now he is the most cuddly cat I have ever owned. It is like he is trying to make up for all those years he wouldn’t participate in the ‘family cuddle time’ (which consisted of a huge Newfoundland, boxer and 3 cats (since he and Buddy wouldn’t participate). • @sketnemesie

      I'd say he was abandoned rather than being a life long feral. An adult feral cat wouldn't have been that chilled with someone trying to touch them.
      It's still amazing he managed to fend for himself though.

But thank GOD, you came along and took him to his forever loving Home. Thank you so much. GRACE for giving JOEY the Love and good Life he truyy needs.

    This was obviously not a true feral. I have had several true ferals in my home. I trapped them and got them fixed and they lived in my home from then on. One is still alive. They all became cuddle bugs eventually even though it took several years. I never cared that I couldn't touch them as long as I knew they were safe and warm and had all their needs met.

    Thank you, Grace. There are no words to describe my admiration and gratitude to you and everything you have done for him..., the only words that come to mind are "thank you, thank you so much." You saw the beauty, potential and perfection in an unwanted and scared feral boy that has probably seen the worst humanity has to offer. However, despite his trials he sensed something in you that told him that he could trust you, thank God for that and thank God for you. I think that between you and Kitty Boy the two of you saved his life and revived his will to live, you can see it so plainly the difference in him before and after they were introduced. If I never get a chance to meet you in my lifetime this video would tell me all I needed to know about you to make a judgement call about your character. You are one of those rare ppl that care about a life other than your own, even more so than your own...., a true hero. I love Joey, please keep us updated on his progress.
