Currently driving a 2014 Mazda 6, but considering a 2024 CX-50 Turbo Premium model. I really wouldn't call this 'off-road' capable when it isn't equipped with skid plates underneath, however. Maybe good for dirt or gravel trails, but nothing more challenging than that. My only concern is the long-term reliability of the turbo. The base engine is definitely out of the question due to its cylinder deactivation. I've had three Mazdas over the years, starting with an RX-7 bought new in 1979. All told, I have 500k miles collectively on the three Mazdas with a failed A/C compressor on a Model 3 being the only forced maintenance in all those miles. If the CX-50 is just as reliable, I'll be a happy camper.

Outstanding review! I have watched about ten videos discussing the options and pros and cons of buying this car--your video is the first one I commented on. Thanks and keep up the good work!

I have a 23 PFP - non turbo CX-50 and I love it! it's a little slow through mountains but it keeps up. I didn't want to give up the mpg for the turbo model, and the turbo has i-stop which I hate >.

i-Stop can be turned off on the turbo model. I don't care for it either, but it at least can be turned off by pressing a switch. The non-turbo engine has cylinder deactivation which is definitely a no-go, and it can't be turned off as far as I know.

Test drove 2 yesterday. We really like it. Ordered one because the 2 they had didn't have all the equipment we wanted or color.

Nice, enthusiastic review, interior looks great, loaded with features. One of the major cons to this Turbo Premium w/20" wheels I've seen in many reviews is its harsh ride. At my age, that would be a deal breaker, but others might not mind it. I just leased a Sport Touring CRV hybrid (top trim), which surely would not be as good off road. On the other hand, it is the most refined Honda I've driven (I had 7 leased high end Accords prior to the CRV), quiet w/surprisingly good handling and excellent torque off the line. My Sport Touring has 19" wheels, but the ride does not suffer in the least. IMO, if someone isn't likely to be a real off roader, the AWD in the CRV should be more than adequate. I'd recommend you test drive both on less than ideal pavement, and make a decision on how much ride refinement you want. You might also want to test drive the Outback XT Turbo and/or the Outback Wilderness, for comparison.

The 20" tires probably contribute to the harshness. The larger the wheel, the less room there is in the wheel well for a tire. The Meridian has 18" wheels, which will allow a bit more sidewall width and should help out with the ride. I'm driving a 2014 Mazda 6 (forgot the wheel size off the top of my head), and it is a bit of a hard ride with the low profile tires. My wife drives a 2022 Nissa Murano...it has full size tires which make for a very comfortable ride.

Unfortunately, the CX-50s, were designed for utilization in North America. And being manufactured in a plant jointly run by Toyota and Mazda in the U.S. But who knows. Both Toyota and Mazda automakers are known for their excellent adaptations to changes and shifting technology strategies. It is still within the realm of possibilities that the CX-50 may one day set foot in the Philippines 🇵🇭 and across Asia. In the meantime, I’m having such great time with my Mazda CX-50 GT Turbo (in fact, my 3rd Mazda vehicle) here in Richmond, BC, Canada 🇨🇦 .😊

I first considered the Meridian, but don't know how I feel about the hood graphic, and it is short on a few available options such as the Bose system. I may go with the Turbo Premium package instead. If they're pushing the Meridian as an off-road model, why not an option for skid plates to protect the underside?

Mazda is a very under rated brand. I have a 2014 C6 GT, I never had any problems with the car but it is getting up in age. I'm looking to buy one of these. Does it have remote start?

Is there NO control of the entertainment on the steering wheel? And what about that vertical strip on the seats? People have been complaining that it is very uncomfortable. People rave about the stiff steering, but I heard that women generally loath it because it tires out their arms and makes for uneasy parking. Comments?

There's volume/mute and source button with fwd /back toggles on the left side of the wheel. If you set your favorites for FM, AM, sirusxm, you can go thru your list. There's also a voice recognition button too for speaking as well.

Disappointing vehicle. Ride is overly harsh. You're rattled by every bump and pothole. Road noise at highway speeds is pronounced. And the brakes are sluggish.
    Worst SUV I've ever experienced.
