you are a fucking monster at this game holy shit... i learned how to do monster tricks and after a lot of try i ve finally got the gold metal in this track and see it done without is kinda a shock XD.
Honest question: does the shifty not suffer from the repetition point penalty? I only have a casual understanding of this game’s inner workings and always assumed that the same “grab” would trip the penalty regardless of the spins you put on it.
Worth noting - repeating the same grab DOES trigger penalties in the 2012 reboot, which might be why you thought of it You CAN do two of the same trick in a run, but you need to have done a lot of tricks in between to avoid penalties. More technical stuff that's not necessary to read, but may be interesting? There's a "list" that stores every trick with the most recently-landed trick at the top, and the oldest at the bottom. Old tricks get pushed out by new ones, and the list has a limit of 11 tricks. Penalties are given as "Expected points divided by # of times trick appears in the list", so a Front Flip worth 1800 points that appears in the list 3 times (including the one just landed) will divide 1800 by 3, rewarding 600 points.
@@kelecat7094 Interesting, in the hundreds of hours I’ve put into SSX3 casually I never learned there was so much going on under the hood! So all that matters is that you vary the amount and direction of spin in order to prevent the penalty? Theoretically you could land a FS 720 nifty and a BS 720 nifty and you’d get maximum score for both? Tangentially related but do grabs that require more buttons give higher scores? I’m guessing the shifty is worth the most?
@@sentientblender yes to all of those questions. The 3-button grabs are nearly the same as Shifty, plus it's helpful for avoiding penalties if you're unsure about your current spin combo. The score difference becomes pretty noticeable with one-button vs. four
@@kelecat7094 so I guess you gotta plan out your monster tricks as well to make sure there’s no duplicates in the list? Presumably that’s what the smurphy trick is for so the game doesn’t archive a raw monster trick as one of the eleven? My game plan only ever got as far as “do a monster trick for lots of points” so this is all new to me
For speedruns, speedrun.com/ssxtricky and speedrun.com/ssx3 For high scores, there's not really any archive for those. Most SSX 3 top scores are owned by Fliper, and each one has a video here on YT. For Tricky it's even more rare to see - I have a few PB videos, 9EDDY has some videos. World records for those aren't even officially tagged anywhere, lol
I could watch you run SSX FOR HOURS

This is wild! Great video!
Now do it without the d pad.

As long as the trick name that shows at the bottom when you land is different each time you will get full points.
