    I could be wrong, but I feel that Joe was actually criticizing those who play games with no intention of making a career out of it (i.e. myself). Essentially saying I am going to keep playing new games but never amount to anything... And he's right. Unless you find a balance and play occasionally, which isn't a problem. If people sink 8 hours a day into this hobby that does nothing (other than create friendships and increase reaction time and spatial awareness) it isn't a great use of that much time. You can still get the benefits as previously mentioned while playing games less often.

    • @riley-pepper
      @riley-pepper 4 ปีที่แล้ว +155

      Exactly. I think its silly for him to imply anything is a waste of time if it doesn't evolve into a career. The vast majority of people who do jiu jitsu will never start their own gym. Everything has it's own benefits and drawbacks, and honestly video games are probably not the best way to spend your time -- but if you enjoy them, then do it in moderation. Personally, I get depressed when I play too many video games but I do it to force myself to relax and to connect with friends who live across the country (which jiu jitsu can't do).

    • @laurenhydride2336
      @laurenhydride2336 4 ปีที่แล้ว +46

      Exactly! Video games have benefits, but they also have downsides. They apply the same tactics as casinos and drugs, which makes them addictive. But like casinos, this makes this a billion dollar market. The gaming community should not be so sensitive when it comes to outsiders opinion though. Gaming has helped so many people, and, everyone really.
      so joe rogan has a point, and I agree with what he actually meant to say.
      As usual the gaming community (ninja and other streamers) leaves a bad impression on non-gamers.
      I don’t play video games anymore, but they for sure helped me with struggling times in the past. As they allow you to be the perfect image of yourself x
      After all, that’s why we play

    • @MinMeows_Booty
      @MinMeows_Booty 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      This is what I was thinking. I’m a casual gamer haha as in a probably play for an hour once a month.😂 Wish I had the time and money to play whenever I wanted.

    • @RiderInRed
      @RiderInRed 4 ปีที่แล้ว +14

      A lot of the times when I hear people mention career with video games, it's not a career of playing video games. Sure there's the e-sports but that's like saying I wanna make a career by being a champion. Very few people iwll get there in any sports. Then people say video game development, which is absolutely different. No if you spend five hours a day playing CS GO you won
      t all of a sudden become a game dev. No if you enjoy gaming, doesn't mean you'll enjoy game development. Then people say what about streaming? Streaming is not just playing games. It's content creation and being an entertainer, so unless you enjoy entertaining people, there isn't a big chance of you making it as a big streamer.
      These jobs are like being a car mechanic or engineer... Just because you loved cruising in the city in your 2006 BMW 5 series, doesn't mean you'll actually enjoy working on cars.
      As for Joe, I do feel like you hit the spot in the head. Most people who treat games as hobbies are fine. Those who treat games as this weird thing where they game for over 8 hours in one seating... That's a problem. If you did the same with say math or science or development... at the end of the day you'd have a skillset that you can earn money with. If you did the same with gaming, nobody's gonna utilize that skillset as such... or well very very far few will (again e-sports). It's the difference between an alcoholic ine drinker and a wine professional. So in other words, I think Joe is absolutely talking about addictiveness. Addiction to certain subjects or things in life can also be monetized while certain things can't be. Games fall towards the latter description as oftentimes with addiction to games, people also isolate themselves from socializing, they often don't lead a healthy life (sedentary) and consumption of easy fast food.

    • @TheNondiscriminatory
      @TheNondiscriminatory 4 ปีที่แล้ว +26

      But you just undermined your own comment with one word- hobby. It's about enjoying yourself, not about "getting some here." Fishing, playing basketball, knitting, whatever the fuck your hobby is, it isn't efficient or getting you anywhere. It's for fun.

    People have been judging other's hobbies forever: long before video games, parents were concerned that *playing pool* would cause their kids to become morally bankrupt and it was even banned in some states for a while.
    Pewds is absolutely right- as with almost everything fun, balance is key. There's a ton of benefits to gaming, as long as you're not letting it interfere with other important life stuff.
    These vids where Felix shares his personal philosophies are some of my favorites- he's clearly a thoughtful, introspective dude and his unique perspective is pretty refreshing amongst the prominent YT culture that encourages and rewards garbage like videos rehashing drama, disgusting mukbangs, and people creating drama to sell their makeup.

    Joe wasn't even trying to attack the gaming industry. He was just saying that a person would benefit more from a jiu-jitsu addiction than a gaming one. A lot of gamers don't become professional esports players or twitch streamers, it isn't that easy. A lot of people just play video games to play video games. It will most likely not lead to job opportunities or progress them, it's just a hobby they enjoy. If the average person became obsessed with jiu-jitsu, there are a lot of paths they can take because they can compete, instruct, and train with a community that will help them grow physically and mentally. You can be really good at video games and still go nowhere with it. Which is fine if you just play for enjoyment. You can also get really good at jiu-jitsu and find that you have a lot more opportunities to make it into a career and promising future. None of this drama even makes sense because Joe never even said the things they claim he did.

      i completely agree with this comment, but one thing is martial arts is very expensive. taking weekly classes, belt tests, and more all adds up to a lot and if you can’t afford it then the whole martial arts thing wouldn’t work. but just using exercise as an “addiction” would obviously have many more benefits than gaming. But you can also do both at the same time, you can exercise and then go play some video games, which is good for anyone. just do some exercise and then go play video games, and you would have both benefits and less addiction

      It would actually be a really great interview. However, I don’t know if Rogan would invite him or that Felix would want to do it. I’ve heard Rogan repeat the vicious lies that the news said about Felix back a few years ago. He did defend Felix’s right to say what he wants but he said that Felix was basically an idiot. Joe doesn’t know anything about Felix’s world or know how smart and/or interesting he is past the persona of PewDiePie because he just basically believes whatever is told to him or what the news said about him. It’s kind of sad actually. That interview would honestly break the internet and probably be just as big if not bigger than an Alex Jones episode. Felix doesn’t really like to do interviews, according to what he’s said in the past and the very few one on one interviews he’s done. He is very shy and an introvert. Either way, Joe doesn’t know what he’s missing out on and Felix is right to not care what Rogan thinks about him because Rogan has never cared to find out who he really is.

    For me I see video games as pieces of art. All the way from the insane amounts of skill and intelligence it takes to actually program them to the artwork that makes up the graphics. I find it so easy to immerse myself into the story and lore behind a game... literally cannot count how many games I know in detail about the backstory behind them. I just find it incredible how essentially a bunch of 1s and 0s can elicit such a passion and fascination for me and I am sure I'm not alone.
