The casting was brilliant, the acting brilliant, the whole thing was brilliant. You grew to care about the characters and it’s a visual feast.
My Sister you describe it with such powerful adjectives. Downton ABBEY IS THE DALLAS, KNOTS LANDING AND DYNASTY WRAPPED UP IN ONE. TRULY a gem this Downton Abbey 💎💎💎💎💎💎💎💎💎. Characters played by these fantastic individuals are thoroughly phenomenal. Everything is exquisite and to taste through out the movie and tv series. Makes or let's say transport you to that era. Diffinitly a good watch (movie) on big screen. ❤️💥💯💎☀️
In a chaotic world, Downtown Abbey is reassuring, safe. Like a hot bath with a good book and a glass of wine.

Ditto. I got into the show during my maternity leave for my second son. Between a newborn and a 2 year old, Downton Abbey was mommy’s ‘relaxing time’.
I'm in the process of catching up. What I find amazing is how simple it is, yet fascinating. It has me on the edge of my seat watching it. There are no cheap shocks and no gratuitous violence like Game of Thrones. I can actually watch DA. Whereas I can't bother to re-watch GOT.
Jim Carter is such a treasure. I can listen to him talk all day!

I love how the actor that plays Carson has the same personality as Carson does.
Carter is much more jovial than Carson. Carson is a stick in the mud! Carter has a sense of humor.

@@srkh8966 Carson the Butler put Charlie Carson on the shelf and hoped to forget about him, remember. Those two were different beasts occupying the same body at different times in Carson's life. Look at the lengths Mrs. Hughes had to go to to get him to think "day at the beach" for the staff when Lady Grantham offered them a day off after Rose's coming out ball.

the one host was spot on about the finale. a lot of shows just don't get it right but Downton was like one of the only ones who got the finale right and you weren't left with the feeling of something is missing

Downton Abbey is the most well written show, EVER! - accolades to the entire cast, off-screen team and Lord Julian Fellowes. I still watch the entire series once a year
This show was "Upstairs Downstairs (1970s)" on a much grander scale. Both shows are brilliant and totally memorable in their own ways. I love both shows.
Oh yes I remember that fondly, I almost prefer it, but I can't decide which I like more..its hard to explain.

I binge-watched all six seasons and the 2019 movie last week. For 5-6 days straight I woke up watching, spent the day watching, and went to sleep watching these characters. It's like I know them. *Love the show and the movie and am looking forward to seeing the 2022 movie soon.*

Binge watched the entire show over the last few weeks in preparation for the seeing the movie. Love everyone of the characters. Each person had their own storyline throughout the series. Felt like I knew each one personally.
Part of Downton's appeal for me is its portrayal of the societal dynamics that many of us Americans inherited, whether we are upstairs or downstairs. We see the dramatic contrasts between the lives of the "haves" and the lives of the "have-nots," contrasts that are sadly reflected in today's society under the false veneer of equality.
@Oma Cool The revolution has already happened in the US, with the election and upcoming landslide reelection of President Donald Trump.
And the same revolution against the elites is happening right now in the UK with the recent election of Prime Minister Boris Johnson, and Brexit. And will continue and deepen, with his likely replacement, in the future, especially if he flubs Brexit even temporarily; with Nigel Farage.

The characters are multi-dimensional and likeable. The problems are relatable and not insurmountable. There is variety in the story lines with both drama (not melo-drama) and laughter. The history and period details are fascinatingly without being dull. It's like the best page-turner plot, yet not a bunch of soap-style half-resolved story lines. There is so much variety. The costumes and sets are amazing. It's set in the past, but we can all see ourselves in the stories. A+ and I want more!
As a born and bred Brit living in the US, I find listening to other Brits so soothing! The hosts voices scratch my ears.
I've seen it twice already! It's definitely not to be missed. I also think how things ended certainly leave open the door to at least another movie. One never wants it to end!
I saw it last Thursday September 12th at an early showing. It was brilliant. Picked up right where it left off and left me wanting more! 💜📺

Downtown Abbey is becoming like a old classic series. You don't get series with this quality of acting, elegance and class on TV or cinema now. I had watched this series multiple times on Amazon Prime and also the film is exquisite. Lovely.
It's a great show you can watch with the whole family. You don't have to be afraid of scenes, that could be bad for children. And it shows us a glimpse of that time. Great show❤️❤️

@rach d I don't know which *"other folks"* you're talking about as *Downton Abbey, Doctor Thorne* and *Belgravia* are all *ITV* shows, and all the films were commissioned after *Downton Abbey* had already finished.
As for *The English Game* see if you can spot *Little Germany* and the village of *Saltaire* both of which are in the *City of Bradford,* as they were also used in *Downton Abbey* (2019) and many many more, films and TV shows.

May I say, this show literally gave me such excitement. My husband would make my bath water, turn on the tv in the bedroom and tell me to hurry up, downtown Abby was coming on. the music would play and I was so in to it. The worst moment, when Sybil died! I cried out loud. I was so heart broken. I still can’t believe how in to it I was. It was like my family. Well played everyone.
This feels funny and heartwarming at the same time: re-uniting with a family of very good friends.

They need to do a movie that features the introduction of Cora to the family. To witness the Dowager Countesses reaction at the thought of an American marrying her son would be absolute gold!!

It was a very clean show. That is why it was so popular. Unlike most of American TV shows and films.
I'm a Brit and I have say I never watched it when it first aired. During lockdown I decided to give it a go I was so bored and had nothing else to watch. I was so pleasantly surprised that it was something that I could watch with my whole family. I don't remember the last time I watched anything like that.
I never saw the TV show, and yet the film made me feel like I knew them for years. Moreover, its so refreshing to see honest to good films doing well among crazy and violent, super hero films.
Where is Maggie Smith? Love her...
She doesn't go to the Oscars even if she's nominated.
I love, love, love this series. Granny was my favorite and she shined in all her screens. The casting and writing was perfect . The customs were beautiful. I never felt that the acting was over done. The cast seem to like each other and it showed. Awesome job. One of the few things on tv worth watching. Thank you Mr. Fellows.

Rewatching the series is so entertaining, you fill-in tiny gaps that you missed the first time around. What a joy!
I loved the first part and the second part too.. the reasons are many but most importantly I love how they speak with perfect pronunciation and full sentences.. which is now rare .. I learnt so many phrases and words.. thank you for making this series.. please keep making them.. and anytime I will love to learn the British English as theirs isn't complicated.. Often has the pronunciation of ten .. while nowadays they keep the T silent.. just my view ofcourse.. no hard feelings.. just in love with each character.. seems like they have incarnated from that Era ❤️

Kevin Doyle also answered in a rush... That's why I think interviews should only have 3 or 4 people. Elizabeth is a very interesting and talented lady, she deserved better. Nothing against Kevin or Hugh, though. And they (the hosts) even adressed her a couple of times, but she was completely blank. I understand what woman mean when it comes to feeling ignored or let down by man.

I'll tell you the key to Downton Abbey: Julian Fellowes and ('The Oracle') Alastair Bruce. Extraordinary writing/back-up research (historical accuracy) with a stellar cast. Point final, c'est tout.

@@andreaandrea6716 Well, both were very attuned to their audiences and wrote for "the public". His "Tale of Two Cities" reminded them of the madness of radical politics. But he also created un forgetable characters on the fly and his word pictures are cinematic. Think "A Christmas Carol" which he wrote in a hurray because he needed to pay his bills.

I think, in fact, I have only seen films of his novels and have NOT read him because the stories were dark and sad. But now I feel silly having said I prefer Fellowes. Although... I just think he is a genius. Having written a saga that is, not only as appealing to such a broad spectrum of people as it has proven to be, but one which also plumbs the subject of the classes in England during that stormy period of great change. I know of no one else who has covered this subject so eloquently. ... Oh! Now I have to go and look more closely at Dickens, don't I? Thank you for this prod!
The best shows IMO have a one person or very small writing team. Breaking Bad, Call the Midwife, Westworld, Mr Robot, Bodyguard, Killing Eve.
The US needs to adopt the UK writing room.
Saw it yesterday and it's amazing. The music. The last 10 minutes kicked my a** though. The characters and plot lines are wonderful, but it's the grander themes it dives into that makes it so large now, i.e social and economic change people were confronting 100 years ago...just as we are today. There's an element of sadness to it - waning empires and characters facing it.
Great movie.. saw it in London last week.. A real treat coming from the States😃

There's another earlier British show that was a comedy, called "You Rang M'lord". It looks like parts of some of the characters of Downton Abbey were based on some of the characters in that show. It's subtle, but almost unmistakable.

Personally...I never saw the show...up to 2 months ago. I have now been binge watching it on Netflix and love it. I just finished the last season. The first thing I did was to buy the movie on DVD. (I get it today....Yay!) It's funny when there is any story you love. You always want it to continue forever. I am glad it has won so many awards. They all deserve it.
