16:30 I have to note, rather than general support the Priest is an amazing melee damage dealer. The War hym relies on being around as many enemies as possible, and all of his personal talents are focused around being more tanky or doing more damage
@@artemzaika2210 About the priest? Because their origin skill serves mainly raising resolve (although in a short range) they might make a pretty good officer/vanguard. But that's quite heavy on the attributes. Priest needs willpower for their talents, fellowship for officer, and strength/toughness/agility/weapon skill for melee. Melee in general is extremely heavy on the stats, so you need to decide on which to prioritize. WS increases your chances to overcome the enemy parry chance, as well as your own parry chance. Despite the fact that it's the main offensive melee attribute it doesn't actually matter THAT much. Can always just debuff the enemy with other characters. Afaik it also increases crit chance now. Strength increases your damage. Toughness increases your HP/survivability in general (a lot of warrior skills and talents scale with toughness) Agility increases dodge and your initiative. It's much better than parry, because you can dodge both ranged and melee attacks. There's also a lot of warrior skills and talents that scale with agility. If you're making a melee character you basically need to decide whether you want them to be agility/dodge based, or toughness/heavy armor based. Funnily enough, Forge World is one of the best picks for both choices. Death World will do as well. Then you need to decide how to distribute your points between strength, WS and any other stat you may want (willpower in case of priest). It's also worth to note that if you're going for agility build you NEED to max agility. It's extremely strong damage dealer build, but it does require greater attribute focus than going heavy armor. Heavy armor on the other hand requires you to spend a talent on it.

This guide, along with Renfail and/or Bricky's content have been pretty useful for new players to get into Rogue Trader, as well as newcomers into more complex CRPG titles.
That's smart. Also for me it makes it clear if the devs/publisher prioritize fix releases, a sign of commitment to player experience (over, say, making the next game or DLC)--and some are always needed. This is helpful if you're a little dubious or unfamiliar about the studio. Some shops are very very slow addressing deficiencies: CDPR very slow/infrequent, Bethesda slow/give-up; vs those that release sizeable fixes rapidly, many addressing obvservations by the playing community. That said, I often pre-order (ptui! heretik!) or near-release games that I want to exist. Then figure out when to play later--so many great games to 60% complete already! In this case, I have a bad experience with Owlcat's RPG products so I'm a bit torn about early buy. WH40K turn-based RPG with freedom RT RPG should bring, oh yes, want that, buy early. Owlcat...hmm, unsure, for me personally.
Played Rogue Trader, the tabletop game, for about half a year. It's interesting to see what has changed and what has stayed the same compared to the TTRPG.
I have a feeling that if we do get more options in the future as a result of dlc expansion, we might get some really interesting additions. Making characters that might have their own added facets at play.
Coming from WoR and BG3 with summoners and minions, i'm a little crestfallen that Rogue Trader does not have a "summoner" type (be it mechanicus servitors, private guardsmen/scions, turrets and the like). Like in Mechanicus, you could forego one companion slot in exchange to bring "disposable" allies that you unlock be it on the campaing or because of your char (astra militarum background unlocking a squad of guardsmen for example).
Well, maybe that is an option on later part of game if you are psyker AND sworn in to service of Ruinous Powers, ability to summon deamons of the Warp... We will see...
I love Owlcat Games. I recently jumped headfirst into the Warhammer 40K universe not knowing what it was about. I really like some of the other Warhammer games and im a huge fan of Owlcat. So since they're doing a Warhammer GAME, I'm definitely gonna get this. Been keeping my eye on Rogue Trader for awhile😊
Personally i think character creators should do your appearance last, i like going into a character creator with an open slate and then just exploring it while i make my character, and i don't know what i want to look like until after i have chosen how i want to play usually, which affects race, and sub-race choices, and also how i model and color my character. if I'm a wizard I'm probably going to make a colorful, and possibly exotic character while if i make a fighter or paladin style character i like to make a typical big dude and use one of the physically strong races. And i never know what i want to do until i finish picking my class. So i think the order of character building should always be Class, then attributes, then appearance, and lastly any gear you might need to choose.
With the noble origin, I really hope there is some hilarious conversations around if I decide to make the Space Wolf, or the Eldar Ranger my servant. "You, 9 foot tall super human, fetch me my slippers and a glass of wine, pronto!"
I've been scratching hard my 40k itch lately (Soulstorm, DoW 2, Battlesector and Freelancer between others), but boy I'm hyped for this game, I LOVED Kingmaker and WotR
I wonder if they may add a Cadia and Catachan origin as a future update or dlc. Imagine the "Cadia stand!" theme skills for those who want to roleplay as a Cadian and Catachan theme skills for rambo like skills.
yeah as marc said, they are already in it. And adding specific references to Catachan and Cadia into all the palces where your generic homeworld is mentioned would be a bunch of work.
I hope this one will be a warhammer game without a timer. Somehow many rts games of warhammer has always a timer that sets pressure on you and make choices instead of giving you the freedom to explore everything.
I love how much build variety there is! For myself, I think I'll try for a fast, close range shooting character, probably with flamers. The bounty hunter tree sounds good for that.
Very much looking forward to playing this game once I update my PC. Bought the Voidfarer Edition on release just to support Owlcat Games. All of this looks very promising. And I hope I won't run into some of the more annoying bugs and softlocks since I won't be an early bird

In 2nd you can pick it as much as you want for 200-300 exp based on your aptitudes. BTW if you had 25+ wounds, you had penalties in social situations due to looking more like a big mass of muscles than a normal human.
Very excited for this one, I really like 40k and always wanted a game like this set in that universe. I did try Pathfinder before, but unfortunately I couldn't get into it. It's far too complex perhaps for someone who's not crazy about hardcore dungeons and dragons type of games. With classes and sub classes and sub sub classes, and skills and sub skills and sub sub skills, and talents and sub talents... you get the idea. It's too much for me, having to figure what the hell everything does and how it synergizes with everything else, even though I think the game was good, it was not for me. This one on the other hand is 40K which I love, and it doesn't look nearly as complicated for a pseudo casual like me to understand. I think I'll enjoy it quite a lot.
I have question about lore wise. Why aren't some origins blocked for certain home worlds? Forge worlds don't have Ministrorum Priests or Sanction Psykers. The priesthood of Mars doesn't allow either of them on their worlds. Priest kind could be worked in but only if it chances into a tech priest instead of Ministrorum one. Of course the abilities should reflect that of Tech Priest whom is more about boosting and repairing the machines rather then people. Also heavy personal augmentation options.
@@rogiairaix2731 I'm actually very unfamiliar with all the lore but I got "coerced" into playing the Pen & Paper Rogue Trader RPG in the past and Tech Priest was one of the options (which I chose).
Oh wow! Well done Mortym! This is such an awesome guide! I'm super ready to get into the game and making a character. I played back in the day as a Vostroyan Arch-Militant (basically, imagine a Czarist Russian soldier who was about seven feet tall and literally intimidated his way out of most fights that came our way), even though I don't think I'll be able to recreate that, I always have had a love of psykers or "scum" (as they used to call the thief/rogue type class back in the day).
I was wondering could you give no spoilery list of what origins and classes your party memebers are (the ones we know at least) So it's eaiser to avoid overlap when they game comes out? :)
Thank for the video! Rogue Trade is coming out on my birthday and I can't wait to play it. I had a build in mind and wanted to know what you thought. Based off this video I was thinking that a Forge World, Crime Lord, Operative sounded pretty fun. Basically going all in on INT and PER. Planned on picking up the Crit bonus from forge would along with Pinnacle of Weaponry and Killing Plan from Crime Lord.
Ive been an rpg guy and idk where i was, but i just found out about crpg recently because of Baldurs Gate, and that was the type of game i like the most! And BG3 made me look for another crpg, maybe ill try Pathfinder later but definitely gonna play this first, cant wait!
This game has not been on my radar at all, but I love a good in deph character creator and this one already sparks the imagination. Whether the game lives up to it ill have to see😅
For a relatively simple (for Owlcat) set of archetypes (hah! I didn't say classes!), there are some spicy combinations. Definitely going to have to finish my reading in the next month. Because December is going to be game-locked again. ;)
Oh yes, our Sister's of Battle companion Argenta... She was amazing in the Beta Test, I remember in the last available Act in the Beta, I killed everyone in the -let's just call it the unescapeable battlefield- (so i wouldn't spoil anything) becouse she was buffed by my Comissar and buffed by Cassia. 😁 Let's just say the main villan died in 2 boltor salvos... (if you've played with Beta, you'll know why it took 2 attacks) 🤫😉 Also pascal debuffed it but yea she is crazy op with the boltor, provided she has a couple intresting items which give +shots, recoil reduction, crit treshold reduction and so on. I wonder how much will the nerf it, becouse it was way too strong. Untless it is the Emperor's will.
I don't know much about the endings but I'm planning on going Sanctioned Psyker > Officer > Master Tactician. Those seem to benefit from going full Wis the most. Then I'll go for an ending where I go independent from the Imperium.
At which rate do we unlock talents, abilities and bonuses? If I play a psyker, do I have to choose between psychic and archetypes abilities? I was hestitant to play one because... the lore isn't exactly friendly to pyskers. But some of the abilities sounds so cool (especially sanctic. I mean... who wouldn't want to unleash the light of the M*therf*ing Emperor?)
Having it try to match the portrait you choose is going to really streamline character creation for me. Very cool addition.

You could gain additional wounds by picking Sound Constitution which is just +1 max wound talent and can be picked set amount of times based on your class in 1st ed. In 2nd you can pick it as much as you want for 200-300 exp based on your aptitudes. BTW if you had 25+ wounds, you had penalties in social situations due to looking more like a big mass of muscles than a normal human.
@@lustracii4181 thank you for the explanation!
Thanks for all your work
Can't wait to play it myself.
I really like more options for psyker. Pyromancer sounds very appealing, we must purge the unclean!
Great overview video!
I'm a bit saddened that Tech Priests aren't a character option.
Me too. But it tracks- we're rogue traders with the Imperium. Hard to balance the loyalties to the Mechanicus and the Imperium
I was wondering could you give no spoilery list of what origins and classes your party memebers are (the ones we know at least)
So it's eaiser to avoid overlap when they game comes out? :)
ayyyyy this looks amazing! I hope I can make an adepta sororitas!
Are you me? Great minds think alike!
Yeah should definitely work
Hiveworld/Commissar/Officer i feel Ciaphas Cain Vibes
Ive been an rpg guy and idk where i was, but i just found out about crpg recently because of Baldurs Gate, and that was the type of game i like the most! And BG3 made me look for another crpg, maybe ill try Pathfinder later but definitely gonna play this first, cant wait!
Having played the table top version (and the other flavors), I'm really excited for this game =)
Hope this game gets some good traction
Your videos are always entertaining and informative, you are good at this :) Also, kind of psyched for this game.
So stoked for this one, thank you for all the guides!
Very thorough.
This game has not been on my radar at all, but I love a good in deph character creator and this one already sparks the imagination. Whether the game lives up to it ill have to see😅
day 1 purchase for me !
For a relatively simple (for Owlcat) set of archetypes (hah! I didn't say classes!), there are some spicy combinations. Definitely going to have to finish my reading in the next month. Because December is going to be game-locked again. ;)
This is the one game where I hope they add more dlc with different origins and what not.
Let the Hype flow....
If there's guardsmen armor, i'd be happy enough. Along with lasguns. If anything. Having companion grunts.
Let's just say the main villan died in 2 boltor salvos...
I really like the idea of being born in space (voidborn). :)
I don't know much about the endings but I'm planning on going Sanctioned Psyker > Officer > Master Tactician. Those seem to benefit from going full Wis the most. Then I'll go for an ending where I go independent from the Imperium.
Noble ability is weird and seems fun.
Reminds me of being an asshole in the Dwarf Noble origin for DAO only that's your superpower.
You. Good observation.
I mean... who wouldn't want to unleash the light of the M*therf*ing Emperor?)
nice overview, thanks :)
Rather disappointed there is no mechanicus origin :(
I am having a really difficult time picking any one build which hopefully means they did a good job as it all sounds appealing.
Based off of this vid, I'm thinking of rolling a Biomancer/Warrior/Arch-Militant build.
Love the video, do more! Lolol
