@@mrobo9037 That will most likely change, at least if our shitty government gets away with it and it's up to the people to ensure they don't. The Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport has shown her support for the BBC, has shown concern at the number of people cancelling their licence and in short a long term funding review is imminent. A media licence is possible that will force us to pay for the BBC to watch any media whatsoever or there could be another forced tax like a broadband levy. Nothing about the BBC standing on their own two feet as they should be in fair competition.
I'm in Scotland and haven't paid the TV Tax since 1983 when I saw that the Detector vans were empty. I could paper my walls with the amount of Letters they've sent me but I will never pay the TV Tax ever.
5 years ago I moved into a new house. I opted to keep my name off the electoral roll. All the Licencing know is that someone lives here, they don't know who. They kept sending me letters addressed to The Legal Occupier. They cannot take "The Legal Occopier" to court, they need your name to do that. I kept binning the letters and they eventually stopped. At one time a verry strange person came to my door. I'm positive it was an undercover employee from Licencing. I opened the door and there stodd this guy who looked like someone straight out of Village People. He had all the gear and a belt with all the tools hanging of it. He said, "I'm here about the water coming down from the flat upstairs. I said "Oh yeah! how come I don't know anything about that." He very quickly turned around and ran off. What an idiot! So my advice is: if they don't have your name, DO NOT CONTACT THEM! Eventually they will give up. Just be wary of strabge people coming to your door. By the way, I don't have a tv and haven't had one for over 10 years. Just bin the junk mail.

I cancelled mine about the same time as yourself and also decided not to tell them again after 2 years. The threat letters amuse my wife but sadly no one has come to the door yet. I have a video doorbell and no material to post, apart from the occasional wildlife.
I always ask the Goons to see thier firearms license as It's the same as not needing a TV license. I then just stand there untill they go. Had 2 so far.
You should also ask to see their DBS card and, if they have one, check it is valid for your county/ward/borough. With their letters being addressed to 'the legal occupier' it suggests they have no idea who lives there. If they don't know who lives there they have no idea as to the occupier's vulnerability status. Anyone who's work brings them into contact with vulnerable children or adults needs to submit to an Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service check FOR EACH AND EVERY COUNTY/WARD/BOROUGH THEY OPERATE IN. I used to work as a bus driver and had to have 4 separate DBS (or CRB as it was back then) checks for the routes the company I worked for covered. I now drive a taxi conveying vulnerable children and young adults to schools and colleges and currently hold 3 badges for the areas I now cover. I've always wondered if Crapita subject their employees to these checks but unfortunately, in the 3 years I've been legally licence free, I've never had a goon at the door to ask them.

None of these easily identifiable missives breaches any privacy law. The scatterbrained TVL letters saying on the outside you are under investigation are not untrue and are meant to intimidate. They are not libelous as they do not directly accuse you of anything.
Why isn't there a campaign to force ITVX, 4, U, Daqve and all the other catch up services to make the "WATCH LIVE" buttons to insist on a TV licence number to be inserted before allowing access?
What I don't understand is why nobody has challenged them on their name "TV Licencing". You do not need a licence for a TV. There are many perfectly reasonable and legitimate reasons to have a TV that don't involve watching live broadcasts.
