  • In Thailand, an unregulated cosmetic enhancement industry is thriving. Botched procedures undertaken by unlicensed practitioners are leaving patients disfigured and forced to spend thousands on reconstructive surgery.

This is a complete nightmare. I cannot imagine the amount of pain and immense struggle and even humiliation she had to go through. We all need to be careful of this. Injections can cause irreversible damage, and there isn’t always a hundred percent guarantee that your face would somehow return to how it used to look like. Despite everything she went through, it seems apparent that she’s become stronger than ever. All the best to her healing both internally and externally moving forward.

She had a right radial forearm free flap (skin, fat, muscle and blood vessels on bloc) with thigh skin graft to the donor site (forearm). With the increased use and role of Media, entertainment and the internet in our daily lives people are becoming more and more insecure about how they look. Nobody is perfect, everybody has their own flaws. No matter how much a person tries to modify his/her looks they will never be truly satisfied and it's one of the reason why people get addicted to plastic surgeries or treatments to enhance their looks. Which often costs alot of money, have side effects and many treatments end up botched.
It is okay to be normal and look normal, not everybody is lucky to be and look normal, many unfortunate people wish to be and look normal. Learn to appreciate yourself and be happy with how you look.

I know women in their 50s who are smoking hot, but they don't try to look like they're twenty. Funny, how the old-looking face adds to the attractivity, because the older the age, the greater the sophistication (unless you're not a sophisticated person).
A 20 year old shouldn't look like 50 and a 50 year old shouldn't look like 20. If everyone looked "perfect" due to surgery, that would be utterly fascist and boring. It's like, yeah I love Pizza, but that doesn't mean that the perfect world for me would be one where there's only pizza.
You are what you are. And healthyness should always overrule perceived attractivity, because at age 80, we'll all be ugly and frail together. And then, some of these botox'ed people become outcasts again, because they look like demonic freaks.

I thought I wanted cosmetic surgery when I was 17. I felt fat, soft, and my own family constantly pointed out my physical imperfections. I was also constantly sexually objectified as my parents prioritized having grandchildren above my happiness or actual ability to succeed in life.
I had this constant pressure to change combined with the realization that I could not possibly reach the results that I felt would make me loved/accepted naturally.
As a young adult, I met a group of transgender people. They were far kinder, more accepting, and taught me to love myself as I was, not for what other people wanted me to be. I also was able to learn about the risks associated with cosmetic surgeries and procedures.
I'm in my 20's now. I stuck with my natural body. I have become softer and fatter, but I *feel* better. I've let go of the idea that I have to reshape my body to fit society's rigid expectations of what I should be. My body, my choice.
Don't get surgeries to make yourself appealing to those who don't love you. If they don't love you or accept you now, they still won't if you change your body. Even if they act a little nicer, they will be in love with the shape, not you.
If you think you want a surgery... get therapy first. Give it six months at minimum. Make sure you are getting it for you, and not to reach a goal that simply isn't attainable (looking like a cartoon character, making miserable, toxic people love you, increasing a body part to a size it cannot safely go to, etc.).
Finally... do your research. There is no surgery or medical procedure without risk, and the wrong complications can and will kill you... or leave you BOTCHED.

Before I leave this thread, I want to mention another thing I felt tempted to try - steroids. Men and boys are heavily pressured to do what they have to to get a big, muscular, stereotypically "manly" look. If I had been able to access those as a teenager, I probably would have tried them, just to not have such a soft, squishy body.
These things are risky and can lead to decreased sexual function.
If anyone read this far, I eventually recognized that my body wasn't the problem. I don't talk to my family anymore.

I understand how it feels to want a procedure. I decided to get gastric bypass surgery, I'm in the UK, and to have it here would cost over £24,000. I could have easily gone to Mexico, and it cost £1000 flights and stay included! The reason it was so cheap is because the clinic just rented a theatre, they did the procedure, and i would be dumped into a hotel room and basically left to fend for myself. There was no consultation, no aftercare or follow-up, and I wouldn't be in a hospital at all.
I did my research, and I found that other European countries offered the surgery far cheaper than the UK but the surgeon was actually a board certified surgeon with his entire record available so I could see every operation he carried out, how many went smoothly, how many didn't and what the issue was and how it was resolved, before the surgery they ran a battery of tests including a camera dien my throat (sedated thank god) to make sure there was no hernia, and if anything wasn't right I would be sent home being charged only for the tests and flights of course. The other good part was it was done in a hospital where I stayed for a week before going home.. I got better care than I ever have gotten in the UK and the cost was £6.500 in total, instead of taking the insanely cheap option I waited until I had enough, if the surgery was done wrong I could have lost the ability to eat or go to the bathroom, my life is not worth a few extra pounds in my bank, I get wanting a procedure, I'm desperate for skin removal but I can't afford it so I have to live with it, I would never dream of getting It done by a backyard self taught doctor.

In Spanish we have a saying that goes “lo barato, sale caro” which translates to: the cheap stuff comes out expensive.
You go cheap but at the end it’s more costly because now you’re dealing with extra side effects
