  • I'm putting my first warp on my old Leclerc counterbalance loom and I'm taking you on my learning journey. I'm doing the front to back method to warp this loom. I'm telling you what went well, but also what went wrong in the process! #weaving #loom #warp

    So helpful for me! I was given a 72" LeClerc, 60" reed, about 1965... nearly done...

    I have been looking for a video explaining how to wrap my old/new floor loom for a while! You made it so easy to understand, thank you!

    Your “rusted” heddle rods can be soaked in white vinegar for 24+/- hours and the rust will wipe off clean. I did this for a loom and it worked perfectly. 2 years later it is still rust free. I had used the bathtub since I did not have a bucket large enough for bars to lay flat.

      Thank you so much for the tip 😁 did you leave your heddles on when you soaked them?

    I'm here for the misstakes again 😆 it's really cool to see your counter balance loom, around here (Sweden) almost all looms are cb but their balance mechanism is a bit different. You can see mine in my "my looms" video. Regarding the eveness, on my loom, it doesn't have to be perfect, but on the other hand you already have better sheds than me! And on warping back to front without a raddle, the traditional way here is to first slay the reed (take it out of the beater), then put your warp on cross sticks, and pull the reed out again, then do back to front as normal. It's called "förskeda" if you want to check out videos. But it's an extra step so i asked my father nicely to make me a raddle instead 😁

      Oh this is really interesting! I just watched your video and I must say, your counterbalanced loom is gorgeous 🤩 And thank you so much for the info about förskeda, I'm going to look it up! Last week, I found a swedish weaving book at the library and I can't wait to try one of the drafts on my loom 😇

    This is great. I appreciate the attention you took to level everything out. I will be doing the same as well. Comparing my new to me loom to yours, I think mine is even older…but mechanically the same. My next step is to replace the aprons and/or clean them. They are very musty smelling. Then to make my warp!

      Oh that's awesome! I wish there was a way to tell exactly what year they were build 😊 this is existing! I wish you good luck with your first warp 😁

    That is an amazing shed, and a lovely warp. I have only warped front to back too. I agree don't rush, but i must say I have never warped my loom without having to fix something, so I test and test and test before I start weaving. lol

    I have one of these looms. Im getting a new 20 dent SS reed to use for my linen project. I finally got the loom fully setup and ready to go. Im going to use some heavier linen thread to make a piece of fabric on the loom to see how it handles.

    Thank you for doing this! I have long awaited! I have this very same "new to me" loom and I have so many questions - maybe someone out there can help us! The first one being - does it matter which way the roller cords are wrapped around the rollers? If so, how are they supposed to be done?

    • @Curly_n_Yarny
      @Curly_n_Yarny  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I had the exact same question! I ended up just attaching the cords without thinking about it too much and it seems to work! We will see on a larger project if it's still the case 😄

    Two rods for extra support and to help prevent the rods from bending under tension. I know that one rod can bend if you apply too much tension.

    Also, there is a wonderful product called "Evaporust" that you can soak your heddle rods and any other rusty parts in that works miraculously.. it doesn't turn them black either..very mild

    My Fanny loom has metal triangles sticking out instead of an apron on the back. Can you help me add warp strings onto this.

    • @Curly_n_Yarny
      @Curly_n_Yarny  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm not exactly sure what you mean. Do you have a sectional beam?

  • @CarolineNH
    @CarolineNH 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    If you miss a thread next time, it is possible to hang it off the back with a weight. I use a prescription bottle with fishing weights in it. The thread can go in the bottle, or get wound around the outside. It hangs down the back, and you release more thread as you need it. I also did not see you using a warp separator. I'm not sure if you did. I use paper lawn and leaf bags, inexpensive and easy to find. I cut the bottom of the bag off, then down the side, and you have 2 pieces of warping paper (the bags are double thickness). I am currently restoring a 1970s or so Leclerc Fanny loom.

      @Curly_n_Yarny  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you so much for all those great tips 🥰 I will have to try the prescription bottles! You are right, I did not use warp seperators this time. My warp is so small that it didn't rolled over itself on the back beam! Good luck on restoring your Fanny Loom! This is such a great project 😊

      Sure! This is definitely on my list of videos that I would like to make. However, this is relatively new to me and I wish to gain more experience before making a video about it. This means that this video would get out in a few months from now. Thank you for understanding 😊
