  • Brock addresses some of the most asked questions in regard to WHY Suzuki would restrict their newest entry in the sportbike world?!? As always, he breaks down the technical mumbo-jumbo and tries to make the answers as fun and enjoyable as possible.
    The details: (unchanged from Episode 3)
    2017 GSX-R 1000L7 Standard model (not the ‘R’ version)
    Traction control - Motion Track Traction Control Standard (TC=OFF during testing)
    Suzuki Drive Mode Selector (S-DMS) Power Mode=A (max power selected during testing)
    Fuel used during test = Shell 89 Octane (choices available at our local Shell = 87, 89, 93 - we selected mid-grade for our tests)
    Rear tire: Stock Bridgestone Battlax RS10 190/55/ZR17 - 35 PSI Nitrogen
    Motor Oil: As delivered (unknown)
    Air Filter: OEM
    PAIR: Blocked
    Power Commander: On bike with ZERO map installed (equivalent to no Power Commander at all)
    ECU: Stock or Brock Flashed with Flash Tune (FTecu) software (ETV Base Maps/Mode A 100%)
    5th Gear Pulls
    Video Introduction - You can’t manage what you can’t measure!
    0:30 Competition Use ONLY!
    1:20 Sorry Cali
    2:00 Y - why - WHY?!?!
    3:00 Euro 3… and beyond
    4:45 The dyno pit - What does all this mean for us? Big, aesthetically unattractive, heavy, and quiet
    6:00 EXUP (I can’t make this UP)
    7:30 This is NOT a conspiracy theory! It’s the unofficial ‘Gentlemen’s agreement’.
    9:50 Our MSO shows 185.3 HP SAE.
    10:45 Is *MY*________ (fill in the bike make/model/year) restricted?
    11:00 Secondary throttle blades vs. ride-by-wire comparison
    13:00 Data logger chart from 1 mile, land-speed event showing restricted and unrestricted S1000RR runs.
    15:00 Are the blades (ETV) closed early to “save the engine?”
    16:25 From our point of view

      Hi Brock, can you please give me a quick answer as to my problem with exact same bike, I've watched this whole series and tried to follow. If you have time can you tell me why, when I used flash tune to just simply derestrict my 17 gsxr 1000 (file-2017 GSXR1000 - 32920-17K82(US) - Unrestricted), it felt alright at first but soon I noticed it felt down on power. I took it to a dyno and it was running lean at the start and then as soon as 100% throttle is engaged it goes rich and I mean reaching down in the 10 around 7k and pretty much staying there up into 12k rpm where iit comes up maybe a little.... 136.7hp at 12.8k rpm peak. Terrible... Switched it back to stock flash and it still feels like crap. Bike only has 3k miles. No aftermarket performance parts (other than Yosh slip-on that came on it. just derestricting from stock.

    First exup valve was on yamaha fzr 1000 in ....1989!!!!! so yes , main purpose at that time was torque, no much regulations back then,, I think now they make so much power that may be the main purpose is noise and emissions.

    Brock, I couldn't be happier with your videos. I pay attention to every detail, every one of them is a masterclass on its own. I really love bikes (I have a humble 18' GSX S 750) but for the first time I came to understand electronics and its impact on performance. When you talk about clutch, exhaust, ECU programs, throttles, weather, you name it, it all comes to light! A BIG thank you for dedicating valuable time to this channel. You should seriously consider opening a graduate program!!! My sincere congrats...

    Hi brock, i'm a european bike tuner... and i'm just impressed that how you share your knowledge with everyone, realy nice job! and very good explanation. Continue like this !
    I've notice since the zx10r 2011 that the us models had bigger restriction than eu (on ignition and stp), and i've the same question in my mind : WHY?... maybe noise restriction i think.
    If you have time and access , take a look on japanese or asian market mapping, they're also surprising 😅

    Thanks for this video. It's really interesting to see how manufacturers pretty much have to release these models in a way that accommodates the lowest common denominator (Euro 4 & California) while also anticipating future changes like Euro5 so they don't need to redesign the whole thing in a year or two. Has there even been any significant changes to power/motors over the last decade? It looks like no one is going to crack that 185-200 mark (intentionally apparently) so they just draw out the yearly releases with more or less worthless changes like the addition of electronics, design changes, reducing weight, or things like VVT which I imagine is just another way to fine tune emissions/fuel consumption. How much longer can they beat around the bush and not add more power?

    Another funny thing is, over here in Asia, the speedos on our superbikes only go up to 299 km/h so if you get your bike tuned/de-restricted and you try to go flat out, the Speedo will stop at 299 but your bike will keep accelerating lol. Very informative video by the way. Thanks! (Does this early-closing electronic throttle valves restriction apply to the MT/FZ-09? I have a feeling we get CA spec bikes here for some weird reason since mine came with CA emissions equipment. I'm about to get my ECU flashed next week and I sure hope those guys will know to rectify that.)

      Not that we have seen. It typically just removes the codes thrown by the front wheel stopped and the rear wheel moving, but still allows the sensors to function normally.

      Problem with that is, in BMW's case, they have become smart. They know guys do this, so they will give you a new one, but your old one wont work any more, and they keep track of it on their system, that is directly linked to Munich, Germany

    • @CaptainXanax
      @CaptainXanax 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      EDW 845 yea, BMW is kind of a pain. I have one of their cars and when my battery was replaced it had to be matched to the ecu. Fortunately I was able to track down their tuning software online. Now my car does all kinds of cool stuff it didn't do from the factory. Lol
      I bet there's a workaround for the bike ecu if you can get one off a wrecked bike or something.

    • @TEAMWRIGHTEOUS
      @TEAMWRIGHTEOUS 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      András or you could get the key switch with the ECU.

    • @BrockDavidson
      @BrockDavidson  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      We simply disable the immobilizer function in the ECU, then ECU's can be swapped between bikes...*but* the immobilizer security feature is lost. If the owner wishes to keep their immobilizer function, we can flash the ECU for that particular bike.

    • @MeansDaddy
      @MeansDaddy 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      András That's not true, I just had Unitronic do an ECU replacement on a 2004 Jetta GLI. New ECU, +60hp, +90tq, same key. However don't know about the whole warranty part but I'm pretty sure ECU's can be swapped. It's just a computer bro.

    Can please you let us know what you manage from pump gas before the race gas figures? Thanks!

      @Braiden Clark, this entire series will be this detailed - start to finish. Race fuel is at the very end, to extract maximum performance. The frustration of waiting for final numbers will kill some viewers... they will just have to get used to it. We go through this process with every new model, it requires time and especially patience.

    Generally your fuel is a few RON lower.
    The IoM TT lads are tight lipped on how much BHP they develop, the top teams cracked 205MPH (330 ish kph)down the Sulby Straight, 20mph over stock needs big power over stock.

      Great info. thanks! You can bet Suzuki has some race parts available to let the top teams really fly.

    Hey Brock, I got a question. What do you know about the 2015 S1kRR? Does it have throttle butterfly valve restrictions or does it open up to 100%. I have a slip on, P08 filter, and pcV tuned to 197whp. Im curious 1. if I have those restrictions stock 2. do you offer anything to remove those restrictions IF i have them stock.

      I have the same bike as you have, and it does have those restrictions. I'm also in the process of having the ECU tinkered with, to have those restrictions removed. Keep in mind what Bock said in the video, it will VOID your warranty then, its to protect BMW from their clients, sort of. The throttle valve restrictions should show on the Dyno chart.

      I was under the impression that the '15 s1k would only give you up to 80% throttle in 1-3 gears but after that it would open up too 100% for 4-6 gears. I looked at the Brock website and I didn't see any options for "tuning" a 15 s1k ecu.

    You talked about the exhaust valve, but never said what its purpose is? I took mine off of my bike day 1

    • @BrockDavidson
      @BrockDavidson  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's for emissions and noise abatement.

    Yea if you flash it and somehow someway something goes wrong just habe the ecu flashed back to stock. Then after the fix have your tuner reflash hopefully for nothing. Worst comes to worst go on ebay for a spare stock ecu. Which im sure all of this brock knows but for promotional legal purposes he would never put on youtube lol
