So You Wanna Be a Guard Puller...

  • A crash course into the realm of guard pulling for competition in the Gi. I don't really mind someone opting to pull guard. It has its place in BJJ, and any rule adjustments I would make to the sport would still allow for guard pulling. With that said, if you're going to pull guard, you should at least do it correctly. Too many people pull from a mile away with the foot fully extended on the hip, or try to just sit backwards and pull their opponent on top of them. Hopefully this short video will give an idea of how to avoid that.

    Andrew out here preaching guard pulling sounds like a recovering neo nazi:

    Hey Andrew, something that I was wondering while watching this - is there a difference between gi and no-gi in terms of reaching with the lead hand to establish grips? Or is it just to do with being in an open stance (orthodox vs southpaw for lack of better terms)? I was always under the impression that it was not ideal to reach with the lead hand and this exposes the leg for singles, etc.
    Appreciate the amazing content as always boys! 🙏🏼

    • @WiltseBrothers
      @WiltseBrothers  2 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Theoretically its the same, but functionally its not. The moment you make contact with a collar, you can generally stop a lot of forward momentum without risking it slipping over their shoulder or getting popped off. This isn't really true for No Gi, as a collar grip in No Gi is a exchanged for a collar tie. Also, notice I don't reach out slowly while standing up. I close distance, in a stance and ready to shoot, then I shoot my hand out. Its fast, precise, and something I've actually taken the time to practice.

    Sweet bro, even though I’ve done gi strictly for bout a a year only recently have I been getting a sense on when to wrestle when to pull based on the grips. But then my pulls were shit so then my opponent, if decent, completely dictates the pace as I hope to get a lasso to reset. hopefully I can sent some fuckers flying with what you’ve shared! 🙌

  • @alexH712

    I learned the other day that the black belt with a white patch on it signifies a black belt athlete that only competes and doesn't teach. Conversely a black belt with a red patch indicates a professor - someone who teaches jiujitsu. With the quality of the content and instructionals that the wiltse's put out for free, i think Andrew is wearing the wrong kind of black belt.
