Your explanations are fantastic! I have the rulebook as a PDF but it’s so much clearer hearing you talk through the rules and how they directly affect each other. Thank you!
Hey brother , juts want to say thank you for your videos . They are organized , well put, concise and informative . This helped me expedite the learning curve . :)
Probably the Frostgrave Folio. It gives you a lot for what it is. I like that it contains a few mini-campaigns as it makes it more accessible and less of a time commitment than the typical 10 scenarios found in most expansions. Plus the Dark Alchemy solo campaign is found in it which is great! The rules for Captains are also in there - and if you want to know more about them, stay tuned as I have a VERY in-depth video coming soon about them!
I had to look up what Ars Magica is because I hadnt heard of it. 😊 But that might be more because I haven't played a wide variety of tabletop games. Looks like it was around when I was a kid, so you're in good company.
I'm just getting into Frostgrave, and your videos have been great. Do you have any idea why the formula for hiring a replacement apprentice is so weird? 10(level-6)+160 = 10(level)+100. One is a lot easier to do mentally.....
It's so you can feel like a Wizard yourself after doing all the math. On a serious note though...I believe the reasoning is because an Apprentice is essentially 6 Levels lower (in stats) than the Wizard...so the 6 in the equation is there to emphasize that...but I would definitely use your equation when the time comes to hire a replacement!😄
Should be noted the game designer said on FB that you can learn from a grimiore when you find it, even through the out of game step sequence should prevent this.
That’s a good point. I had thought about mentioning your post where he gives that answer in this video, but it seemed like his response was more casual - like a house rule if you prefer it that way - than an official ruling about the timing. So I just stated the rules as written. I’m curious if the FAQ will address this topic officially when it’s released.
@@bricksblocksgaming8017 I felt it was more 'that is an unintended side effect of the post-game sequence that 2nd ed added, and not the authorial intent.'
@@nathanhook8351 I’m not totally convinced that the author’s “official ruling” was that Grimoires could be used immediately - it sounded more like a suggestion in my opinion. Here’s his quote for those not familiar with the FB post: “Go ahead and learn the spell, it’s more fun that way.” I believe he often encouraged players during the 1st Edition of the game to use house rules if players preferred those. So that’s my take on it. I plan to use the “wait a game” ruling per the book’s wording until an official FAQ comes out - but I totally support players allowing immediate learning. Thanks for the dialogue about the topic, I think it’s an area that does cause some confusion - especially since 1st Edition had no specific order for any After Game activities.
@@nathanhook8351 👍 I’ll be mentioning you again in the video I’ll be releasing today or Wednesday about dialogue we had about the Ring of Transference.
Are the first edition campaign books compatable with second edition? I've just ordered the two (including Red King) second edition books, and wondered whether it's worth it getting the first edition books?
All of the previous books besides the original rulebook and The Grimoire book are compatible with 2nd Edition. There's a few things that don't quite translate over, but the author included a section about the supplements in the 2nd Edition book explaining what needs to be changed from each of those to work with the 2E rules. They mostly serve to add different scenarios. The Frostgrave Folio has a 3 battle solo campaign, and Perilous Dark is a 10 battle solo campaign (very difficult though - especially with some restrictions on leveling-up in 2E). And Thaw of the Lich Lord and Forgotten Pacts include some new Soldier Types - 2 of which one of my Warbands is hiring after the 1st battle for my series, which I'm getting edited now!
If the apprentice chooses to be promoted to the wizard when the wizard dies, is the new wizard's stats the previous wizard stats, or does the apprentice's stats take?
The newly promoted Wizard keeps the stats he had while an Apprentice, and his level become 6 lower than the original Wizard's (which is important for determining the cost to hire an Apprentice). When he does hire his own Apprentice, its Fight, Will, and Health stats will each be 2 less than the new Wizards (the other stats will be the same as the new Wizard's). So if you never upgraded your Fight Stat your new Wizard would still have their +0 Fight and the Apprentice would have -2. And the New Wizard no longer has the -2 Penalty to their casting rolls (apparently the previous Wizard was holding them back from their true potential : ).
can all magic attacks have a chance of being blocked as long as the char. has a will stat. can you please go into depth about the will stat I cant seem to find much on it other then a few lines in the rule book.
That’s a great question. I’m actually planning to make a video about Will Rolls in a month or two. A Spell can only be resisted if it specifically states in its description that a Will Roll is allowed to resist it. Most of these spells are debuffing and control spells. Also, the timing of Will Rolls varies - some allow immediate rolls, some are end of the turn, etc. So you have to read each spell carefully to know when or if a roll is allowed.

dude did a good job of explaining. now just need to make enough terrain. the lego was appreciated.

I would also recommend the Frostgrave discord
I've never used Discord before. I should probably look into it...
It is a pretty easy to use chat system. Too Fat Lardies use it for a number of things, to include Kreigspeils and virtual game conventions.
