    I like your point about using against new players, as there is way less chance of wiping out the opponent, and them feeling bad.

      Definitely want to avoid the situation of finally talking someone into trying out a game, just to have their first experience be a total party kill. 😐🤦‍♂️😂

      @@bricksblocksgaming8017 I did pretty much do that one time. That said, it was a 3 player free for all, the other two were guys that introduced me to WH40K, so new to Frostgrave, but not to minis. I had got bad dice rolls, and had corrected their blunders, so things were going bad for my enchanter's warband. So I tried to retreat them, and had a guy doing a rear guard action at the top of some stairs (I forget if it was a captain, or a templar or what, but he had a 2 handed weapon and heavy armour). It was a huscarl model from my Saga army (I use historical minis for Frostgrave, even my wizards are druids and Roman priests) with his weapon and armour enchanted. They teamed up and rushed me, even sending in aprentices for team up bonese to kill my rear guard faster and get to my magic users. My guy bassically solo slaughtered both of their warbands. I had warned them before they charged him that the game is about getting treasure, not about killing. So it worked more as a lesson in the game priorities, then really leaving a bad taste in their mouthes, especially as they had the opportunity to win, and could see that they had wasted it.

    your videos have been very helpful, I want to 3d print two warbands to try the game out and just selecting two of your builds has helped immensely. I am printing this one first!

      I’m glad you’re enjoying the Build videos! Some of them are strong builds, while others or more for fun. But luckily Frostgrave has enough randomness that you don’t have to power-game to to have fun or to be successful. I’d be curious to know which two Builds you end up going with and any tweaks you might make to them. Have fun!👍

      @@bricksblocksgaming8017 I'm doing this thaumaturge build with a knight/ holy order theme lead by a gray wizard, and probably a necromancer build with a cultist theme. Keeping it classic.

    Where was this when I started... gods know how many years ago? (Back in V1, long before V2 was even a thing thought about)

      @andreaspersson5639 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Also, a Man-at-Arms with some magical armor+1 (be it from Enchant Armor, or found treasure) will be almost as effective as a Knight (1 less fight, but still that nice Armor 15, so next to impenetrable)... not bad, that's a real wall

    • @bricksblocksgaming8017
      @bricksblocksgaming8017  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      You could really go crazy with human walls in 1E since there was no maximum Armour rule back then. Shield (+2), Enchant Armour (+1), Possess (was +2 in 1E), and a Magic Shield (+1)… a Knight could have 19 Armour!

      @@andreaspersson5639 that’s a good point about Men-at-Arms. I thought about them as I was editing that I probably could have had the Warband start with 2 of them instead of the Knights to use the money for something else. If they die early in a campaign, it’s not as much of a lost investment. And they don’t fill the Specialist slots as well.

    Huh, this made me just notice a discrepancy in the 2nd edition book. In the normal spell section 'Shield' says the limit is max armor (15). In the spell appendix at the back of the book it says the maximum armor 'Shield' can reach is 14.

    • @bricksblocksgaming8017
      @bricksblocksgaming8017  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The 14 was a misprint. The FAQ clarified that 15 is the max Armour value. 👍

    Funny thinking about Knights working with Thugs and Thieves. Makes you wonder what kind of Knights they are.

      Challenge accepted:
      “As Felstad started thawing, some nomadic tribes settled in the ruined buildings to take shelter from the harsh conditions. After a couple of generations, weird, ferocious creatures appeared amongst the ruins. Then strange magic forces began killing off the people. Finally - and worst of all - came the Wizards, who ransacked their homes and claimed their buildings and artifacts as their own.
      “But then a Wizard unlike the others, along with his Apprentice and three valiant warriors appeared. They came to offer aid against all that was terrorizing them. Many of the elders were skeptical and wanted nothing of their help, but 5 of the younger men told the Wizard of some valuables they’d seen - items that could be sold to help their people… but that area was too dangerous for them. Seeing the courage the young men showed, the 3 Warriors pledged to protect these youths with their own lives to recover these items for their people.
      “Now, this newly formed Warband is headed deep into the ruins of Frostgrave on a mission to bring hope to a desperate village.”

      @Data to the Rescue that’s a good point. I’m so used to the fantasy version of the “knight in shining armor” that I don’t think I’d ever really thought about this fact before.

      The Ill-Made Knight is the first book in a series of novels taking place in the 100 years war that hits on the topic of many knights not being all that good, but also on good ones too. I mean, they were people, some good, some bad.

    • @philipcampanaro8124
      @philipcampanaro8124 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks to all who replied. I did know all this but will look into the Ill-Made Knight series. Just so we all remember a major source of funding for knights was the capture and holding for ransom other knights and the looting of baggage trains so basically kidnapping and robbery.🤣

    • @ostrowulf
      @ostrowulf 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@philipcampanaro8124 Both of those are dealt with a lot in the book. I would disagree with the knight ransoms as kidnapping, as gennerally they were taken in combat like a modern prisoner of war. Just they had the ability to buy their freedom, or have it bought by a lord/friend/family member. That said, it is really a bit of semantics there, and just seeing it through a different lense. The robbing, that part I 100% agree with you.

    Alan, do you feel this warband could benefit from ranged attack soldiers for a single game?

    • @bricksblocksgaming8017
      @bricksblocksgaming8017  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yeah it could. To maximize the use of GC in that build, I might suggest starting with 2 Archers and 2 Man-at-Arms instead of Knights. Casting Shield on a MaA makes them almost as strong as the Knight but saves some money. I would use the Archers to weaken opponents coming at my MaA, then use them to offer cover for fleeing Treasure Haulers once my “walls” fell.

      Good catch that I left this point out of the video! I’d recommend going with Health. Ideally the Human Walls should keep the Spellcasters safe from combat, and their spells not really needing LoS to the enemy should keep them safe from ranged attacks. So extra Health allows early Empowerments followed up by Heal Spells.👍

    Build human walls you say? Sounds like a job for necromancer!
