Jalen Rose and Jacoby Jones did a fascinating podcast that centered around the practice of parents intentionally holding their children back one grade in high school. This would give said child a one year advantage over their peers as they would have 1 additional year of growth, size and maturity over players that progressed normally through high school. This was obviously done to improve the kids' chances of getting D1 offers from schools. Julian Newman being 16 in the 8th grade is just silly as you should be a sophomore at that age.

I think the major mistake is thinking someone has “failed” at life because the first thing they excelled at didn’t result in a longtime, successful pro career… These are kids. They are not even 18 when they get put in some kind of spotlight. The pressure to both perform now and improve in the future gets to the vast majority of them. Many end up failing and some end up far worse off than they would have if they never played ball and focused on school. All of that shit happens to these kids BEFORE they become actual adults, so to say they failed is disingenuous. Sure they didn’t make it to the top of a sport where 99.9% of athletes don’t either, but who’s to say they cannot become successful in adulthood? Most of y’all were underwhelming, mediocre virgins during the time other kids were being scouted by D1 programs… Remember that next time you laugh at the mistakes or misfortune of someone who actually had a chance at stardom; Do you?
College coaches are a big part of a lot of kids downfalls too! I can name you multiple 5 star recruits from PONTIAC MICHIGAN i went to school with that made it to Division 1 college teams and fizzled out
Played Kyree Walker in Oakland when I was about 17 years old. Whole gym was jumping for this dude to do something special then only got 8 points yelled at the kids he was playing with then me and my team saw him take off their jersey and put on another jersey of the team we were going to play. Legit played the guy 2 times in like 1-2 hours. Guy was insufferable. Funny to see him failing because even my coach at the time told me players like him don’t get very far.
The fucked up thing about Newman is that he could've gone to college and balled in a few foreign leagues if he and his dad both took it seriously, but his dad saw the money signs early on
Julian would have never even gotten close to the NBA. He couldn’t even get D2 offers, everyone that knows basketball knew Newman would never do anything outside his father coached AAU team
Only 2 of these guys could have made it to the NBA if we being honest, the other guys were just too small regardless of how good they could have been. That 6’7 and the 6’4 are the only one who could have made it but poor choices cost them. As for the rest, they are just too small.
Two things that didn’t happen with Julian Newman. One, he wasn’t coached the right way on how to play the game of basketball. Two, he did not grow up physically.
We need a mac mcclung video next. Although I’m a huge fan of him, & with a team would call him up, I’m sure you could put a great video together on his situation.
To say they failed is a bit much. I will say this though, there needs to be a study on the impact mentally social media has on the brain it’s a valid question for sure.
I always compared Julian Newmans career to the mighty ducks franchise. In the first 2 movies the ducks were never the biggest are the most skilled, but they were successful due to the gimmicky tricks they could do. By the 3rd movie they were older and the tricks that made them famous no longer worked and they had to learn how to play real hockey. Julian is still doing the tricks that made him famous as a kid and never learned how to play team ball.
Just a friendly head’s up: the country you called and labeled as “Servia” is actually Serbia. No disrespect intended. It was a great video, regardless of a tiny mistake. Keep it up, partner! 👊
The whole Newman family is insufferable. It’s kinda messed up how his dad took kids who probably have their own goals in basketball but instead of cosching them all equally giving them all opportunities he basically made them pass his son the ball so he can get even more videos of his son dribbling the whole game. If their parents cared about him as a person more than his handles then maybe he wouldn’t be such an unlikeable crybaby.
Bro circled 31.7 and 33.9 MINUTES per game for Marcus Levett and said he averaged 31.7 and 33.9 points 😩 that obscures and warps the story to a kid who switched schools for academics, but if you look at the stats onscreen, dude was averaging only 4-5 points a game before he transferred, then he jumped to 23 immediately. Seems like Levett’s high school story was more about needing more exposure and playing time than switching schools due to being overwhelmed and wanting better academic opportunities.
It’s a glitch on the website with points and minutes at times getting shifted over a column, all stats are cross referenced and confirmed from other resources however not every website shows a good visual for the video

Legit played the guy 2 times in like 1-2 hours. Guy was insufferable. Funny to see him failing because even my coach at the time told me players like him don’t get very far.
"I can teach you everything about basketball, except how to be tall."
Julian needs to line up his goate bro Been lookin raggedy 😭
Dribbling to nowhere is cold lol
He’s still hooping on the internet
Awesome video, just gained a new fan! However, Chase Adams being on the list with these bozos is just insane imo.🤣
The fucked up thing about Newman is that he could've gone to college and balled in a few foreign leagues if he and his dad both took it seriously, but his dad saw the money signs early on
Crazy to this day people still talking about Julian Newman and what happened to him.
Julian would have never even gotten close to the NBA. He couldn’t even get D2 offers, everyone that knows basketball knew Newman would never do anything outside his father coached AAU team
My worst take in sports history is saying Newman was good as melo 😅
I loved Chase Adams game floor general and leader ❤
Only 2 of these guys could have made it to the NBA if we being honest, the other guys were just too small regardless of how good they could have been. That 6’7 and the 6’4 are the only one who could have made it but poor choices cost them. As for the rest, they are just too small.
Two things that didn’t happen with Julian Newman. One, he wasn’t coached the right way on how to play the game of basketball. Two, he did not grow up physically.
We need a mac mcclung video next.
Although I’m a huge fan of him, & with a team would call him up, I’m sure you could put a great video together on his situation.
the stat says 21:54 he played 32 mins but only scored 4.6....and his steals are off. rebounds
Newman wasn't ever going NBA pro at that size.
Chase Adams is a success story if my son plays D-1 4 years I can die a happy man
To say they failed is a bit much.
8.7 in the G-League is not a failure my friend
Inefficient turnover prone chucker is CRAZY 😂😂😂😂😂😂
Crazy how they say genetics was the ONLY reason Julian didn't make it to the NBA. Have you seen him play? He has the basketball IQ of a palm tree.
Just a friendly head’s up: the country you called and labeled as “Servia” is actually Serbia.
No disrespect intended. It was a great video, regardless of a tiny mistake. Keep it up, partner! 👊
That "Bruh" boi is hilarious af
The whole Newman family is insufferable. It’s kinda messed up how his dad took kids who probably have their own goals in basketball but instead of cosching them all equally giving them all opportunities he basically made them pass his son the ball so he can get even more videos of his son dribbling the whole game. If their parents cared about him as a person more than his handles then maybe he wouldn’t be such an unlikeable crybaby.
I’d say Chase Adams was pretty successful considering his circumstances.
Tony farmer is a 🐱. Acting so tough hitting a woman, then fainting in front of court. I’m 6’4 215 lbs. I wish I could fight him 😅
I dunno about it being sad. The kid had the sky but his dad and himself. They ruined it
Bro circled 31.7 and 33.9 MINUTES per game for Marcus Levett and said he averaged 31.7 and 33.9 points 😩 that obscures and warps the story to a kid who switched schools for academics, but if you look at the stats onscreen, dude was averaging only 4-5 points a game before he transferred, then he jumped to 23 immediately.
Newman was never going to the nba
D2 scholarship? Possibly but he stunk
