I am a touring cyclist and normally cover about 50-60 miles per day so safety is very important to me.
I was attracted to this cycle helmet by its design with 25 ventilation holes and MIPS Multi-directional Impact Protection. In short, this means the helmet can offer additional protection over a standard helmet if you fall from the bike and hit the ground or other surface at an angle, which happens in many accidents. The helmet has a thin liner layer which allows for a sliding motion of 10-5mm in all directions to help reduce the transfer of rotational motion onto the brain which can help prevent traumatic brain injury. Adding Mips to a cycle helmet adds a little to the cost but in my view is a worthy investment in additional safety by helping to reduce the risk of a severe brain injury following an impact. The helmet also meets USA ASTM F1447-18 and CPSC cycle helmet standards for recreational cycling (and roller skating) although there isn't yet any EN 1078 European compliance stamp - but different countries have different testing requirements.
The helmet feels very lightweight, streamlined and comfortable on the head, has generous padding inside the shell which is removable for washing plus a spare padded inner is also included as a bonus which I haven't seen included on any other helmet, and light netting keeps flies out. Out cycling in warm or hot weather, the 25 vents provide perfect air flow for cooling and after even a long ride, I found I didn't have a sticky, clammy head nor, as is important to some female cyclists no 'helmet hair' either where the hair is compressed against the head.
Adjusting the helmet to fit is easy with soft webbing straps which don't rub or chafe, an ear guide to ensure the straps fit correctly around the ears, a rear dial adjuster for fine adjustments out on the road and for those with longer hair, it can accommodate a pony tail.
I ordered the medium size which is an excellent fit for my 57.5cm circumference head but other family members also tested it with smaller and larger head sizes and found it easy to adjust. I was also able to wear it with a lightweight merino wool skullcap beneath in cold weather.
The sun visor clips on/off but I kept it in place to keep the sun from my eyes and rain from my glasses.
This Outdoor Master Mips helmet has performed very well for me in all conditions - ie sun, rain, warm and cold weather. Pricing is very fair ensuring value for money combined with good design and additional safety. Outdoor Master isn't a brand I was previously familiar with but it's one to now look out for.
